Getting new tattoos already have wrist and arm tattoos , want to get a small hand tattoo is it a good idea ?

OP posts:

Only you can say, really. Depends what kind of job or social circle you have. What are you thinking of getting ?

Small hand tattoos seem very commonplace on women. Probably would be seen as more socially acceptable.

All of this shouldn't matter to anyone but sadly, as many posts on this website show, some people are still prejudiced against tattoos. Depends on whether or not that matters to you.

ASaucerfulOfSecrets · 08/04/2022 23:05

My tattooist won’t do hand tattoos unless you’re heavily tattooed already.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/04/2022 23:59

I have tattoos on all my fingers, tattoos on the side of my hand and wrist tattoos going onto my hands. My work is ok with it, will your workplace be and will you want to change jobs in future?

No

GoldenLightNights · 09/04/2022 00:03

You wouldn’t be able to cover it if you wanted to I suppose.

Whiskersonkittens21 · 09/04/2022 00:03

I have the top of my hand covered, but I work in a job that don't care and I also have my arms, legs, feet and neck done already. The hand was the most recent one.

Honestly though sometimes I do panic about it in the sense of i can still cover my other tattoos with clothing and my hair, this one is forever on show and will impact me looking for jobs in the future if I lost my current one. I absolutely love the tattoo but it does concern me.

Too late now though!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/04/2022 00:04

@GoldenLightNights

No
Not necessarily, it depends on OP's job/ambitions, I am heavily tattooed with hand/finger tattoos and it's fine for me.
ElenaSt · 09/04/2022 00:07

Do hand tattoos fade more than other parts of the body given that hands are washed more often and are more exposed to sunlight.

Disclaimer - I know nothing about tattoos!

SunscreenCentral · 09/04/2022 00:09

Depends, doesn't it? Generally I'd say no it's a bad idea but it might work for you in your life and your situation.

I'd not be happy if my 20yo got a hand tattoo. DC does have one (it's shite, honestly) which I only found out about during lockdown.
I offered a gift of some sessions for a 21st if desired but the rider is to build on or improve the (honestly pretty) shite tattoo and not get more

Fraaahnces · 09/04/2022 00:12

@ASaucerfulOfSecrets - any reason? I ONLY want one on the back of my wrist/hand. I hope it’s not a thing with other tattoo artists.

Popsicle33 · 09/04/2022 00:12

I don't care what anyone says but it will mark you out as a chav. It looks horrible!

They can do.

Assume that if you're already heavily tattooed you

fully understand what the implications might be of having a tat
probably won't regret having a tat in a place that is difficult to cover up
probably work in an area where it's acceptable to have obvious tats

I'm not a chav, but you are most definitely a twat. You judge people based on appearance so you're a shallow person. I judge people based on kindness, empathy, etc.

It can affect jobs and employment. Most heavily tattooed people are already in jobs that don't mind about tattoos, so it's safer for them to get hand tattoos.

See what I mean about the prejudice OP?

Embarrassing post.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/04/2022 00:27

@Obviouspretzel those of us with hand tattoos don't really care what the mumsnet snobs think of us to be honest, the only thing I considered is employment prospects.

pinkyredrose · 09/04/2022 00:28

It's a good idea if you want a tattoo on your hand.

dalmatianmad · 09/04/2022 00:28

I'm a very senior Nurse in a well known Hospital and have a full sleeve and a large tattoo on my hand.

It doesn't effect my job. Im a bloody good nurse and well respected in my area of work. I sat in meetings with the chief Nurse, chief executive and the coroner today.

NHS is very accepting of tattoos. Law firms might not be for example, so it depends what job OP does or wants to do.
ValBiro · 09/04/2022 00:36

I've had hand tattoos since I was 17. Just a couple of little stars. I don't notice them anymore, no one has ever commented on them and as far as I know they've never prevented me from getting a job. I work in professional services in a university. Have previously worked in schools and for the council.

FuckYouDebbie · 09/04/2022 00:52

Why are you asking here? Are you looking for a hand twin?

Nailest · 09/04/2022 00:55

I have one on the palm of my hand. It hurt more than any of my others but I like it, and since it’s on the palm, I can hide it if needs be.

Nailest · 09/04/2022 00:58

Hand tattoos do fade quicker. I have several tattoos (other than on my hands) but my usual artist wouldn’t do the one on my palm for that very reason.

Popsicle33 · 09/04/2022 01:04

Why put yourself in a position to be judged negatively? The majority of people will think you're a chav when they see them, I don't care what anyone says. They're trendy now but you could really be closing the door on future opportunities.
