Random things that were big in the '90s.

I'm trying to make up a quiz for a friend's birthday based on things that were popular in the '90s, plus I was just having fun reminiscing with another friend. So I wondered, what random and lesser known things do you remember being popular back then?

Riverdance is one I remember. That was so huge back then and I was obsessed with it and Michael Flatley. I remember watching Eurovision live when they had Michael Flatley and Jean Butler perform and being blown away by it.

@survivor1270, I adored This Life.

Coincidentally I am a lawyer (more boring areas of practice than everyone in This Life though) and very, very occasionally something interesting happens and I think of Anna declaring it 'the most exciting fucking profession in the world'.

Push Pops!! ‘Don’t push me, push a push pop!’ Also, POGs were not tiddlywinks. They were much bigger and thicker.

Moon and star bedding - I loved it. The bead bracelets when you'd wear about 8 stacked up your arm loved them too.

My memories of my late teens in the mid 90s...

Rubber friendship bracelets in all neon and glittery colour combinations

Chokers

Crop tops with various printed slogans on such as '90% angel' or 'babe'

Platform sandals and platform trainers

Lycra cycling shorts in fluorescent colours

Wraparound skirts

Plastic dummies necklaces

Burgundy nail polish (don't know why this sticks out in my memory so much from that era).

Floppy velvet hats

Jelly sandals

Various lip balms in all different flavours that stacked together. My favourite was candyfloss from Boots

Impulse bodyspray ( Zen was my favourite)

Does anyone remember having penpals around that time and they used to send these friendship books around for people to add their addresses on and then when it was full it would be sent back to the one who started it? I remember that around 95/96 ish.

mrsfeatherbottom · 08/04/2022 22:29

Skirts over trousers! I had forgotten about those.

Wide leg jeans so long that the bottom 2 inches were always dirty and wet! (That was 90s, wasn't it?)
