Do you feed family garlic based dishes without considering the after smell the next day?

Is this something other people consider at all? Say you have tweens or teens who are at an age where peers may notice things like garlic breath. Do you consider this at all and say not feed garlic bread night before school or if they are going to a party or something. Or do most people not give it a second thought? Just curious as it’s something I tend to avoid garlic if working next day but maybe I over worry

I put garlic in most things I cook - so no, I don't ever consider it.

Wutipg · 03/04/2022 21:12

I am amazed at the people who say they eat it in virtually every meal 😮 there are so many dishes we have I just don’t think need it

I think if you cook Mediterranean or Asian food then garlic is used

SpringLobelia · 03/04/2022 21:17

@Rummikub

Roasted garlic bulb is delicious
[whispers... roasted garlic bulb blitzed with artichokes marinated in oil spread on bruschetta is the best thing ever]
gogohm · 03/04/2022 21:19

Gosh my kids would be hated if this were a thing, garlic is big in my house, by the bulb rather than clove! No I didn't consider it

I have never had artichoke. That’s that green leafy bulbous veg?

SpringLobelia · 03/04/2022 21:25

yes! But way nicer in a jar. because they have cut through to the good bits and then marinated it. I can't get on with the fresh version at all.

What kind of meals do you usually eat? I wouldn't add it to a fish pie, for example, but most other standard family dinners would include garlic.

Globe Artichokes are the ones that are like up to tennis ball sized thistle like shapes - they're lovely, especially chargrilled with lemon, oil and Thyme/Oregano. Or you cheat and buy frozen hearts from the Turkish shop and use those for a cheaper bit to blend into a spread.

Jersulem Artichokes are little knobbly or purple tubers that are also delicious in a completely different way.

Rummikub · 03/04/2022 21:27

I’ll look out for that
My dd has turned veggie so I’ve been looking for simple tasty ideas

Most cuisines use it. With good reason. Although it's also been a thing in England since before 1548, so people should have really got used to the idea by now.
Rummikub · 03/04/2022 21:30

Interesting
What English dishes contain garlic?

I add garlic to casserole/ stews.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 03/04/2022 21:41

Well, in the Forme of Cury (14th Century Delia Smith's How to Cook), you have it in

Sawse madame. Take sawge, persel, ysope and saueray, quinces and peeres, garlek and grapes, and fylle the gees þerwith; and sowe the hole þat no grece come out, and roost hem wel, and kepe the grece þat fallith þerof. Take galytyne and grece and do in a possynet. Whan the gees buth rosted ynouh, take hem of & smyte hem on pecys, and take þat þat is withinne and do it in a possynet and put þerinne wyne, if it be to thyk; do þerto powdour of galyngale, powdour douce, and salt and boyle the sawse, and dresse þe gees in disshes & lay þe sowe onoward.

So it can go into a traditional British Roast Goose and Stuffing. Or Curry. Or any other stew to go with onions or leeks.

It was more of a poor person's food. Like potatoes became when they finally turned up this side of the Atlantic.

😂😂😂

Rummikub · 03/04/2022 21:44

Agree anything that has onion in is consider adding garlic

goingtotown · 03/04/2022 21:44

Smelly food breath chew some parsley.

Wutipg · 03/04/2022 21:44

So we eat. Shepherds pie, fish pie, lasagne, spag Bol, chilli, fish (salmon mostly) and veg (often with cheese sauce) home made burgers or fish cakes. Stews such as goulash. Stroganoff etc. I also do curries using curry paste which I know has garlic in it. I don’t add cloves of garlic. The only fish of that list that I think would benefit from garlic would be the lasagne and spag Bol. But they don’t absolutely need it. Obviously lots of people on here disagree but I guess everyone has different tastes and neither is wrong

Wutipg · 03/04/2022 21:45

*the only dish on that list

Rummikub · 03/04/2022 22:13

I’d add garlic to lasagne , spag bol and probably the chilli
Maybe the burger too if i was adding onion

SwedishEdith · 03/04/2022 22:21

I'd add it to the goulash and stroganoff as well because I often just use the BBC for checking recipes and they include garlic for both.

AnnaSW1 · 03/04/2022 22:25

I wish more people would. I hate having to speak to colleagues with garlic breath

Corgeti · 03/04/2022 22:27

I eat it pretty much every meal, I am a stinky garlic person but I could never give it up, so good. Munched on some miso pickled garlic earlier! 😂🧄

Oh, and the cottage/shepherd's pie.
Goatling · 03/04/2022 22:31

Last time I had my eyes tested the optician absolutely reeked of garlic, you know how close up they get to your face, I was almost gagging.

worriedatthistime · 03/04/2022 22:57

No because we all brush our teeth
