Car's been stolen- I know where it is!

Just wondered if anyone had been through this?

My car's been nicked. I have a tracker in it and located it at an address about half an hour away. I drove round and it's there!

Tried to start it but I wouldn't recognise my electronic key.

Reported it to 101 but they have said that there is nothing the police can do- I need to get my insurer to collect it and fix whatever has been changed. Currently on hold to the insurer.

Just wondered if anyone had been through this?

Hello, a good but unexciting update from me- the car was recovered this morning and is now at the garage as it needs quite a lot of work- they had ripped out various electrical things. I don’t think it was the person @nalabae kindly suggested but who knows?

Sorry to hear of other people’s car thefts and unsatisfactory dealings with the police. Now at Halfords buying a wheel lock 🤞

@Mumoftwoinprimary

They are probably too busy raping and murdering women and strip searching black children to bother with things like stolen cars.
I was having similar thoughts and wondering if it would be in poor taste to post along those lines!

I can't believe they can't be arsed to put themselves out to try and catch car thieves. It plainly wasn't nicked by joy riders, so possibly an organised car ringing gang or stolen to use in some other crime.

No wonder the crime rate in London was rising year after year, until Covid made things a bit more difficult for criminals.

^^ sad but true

LakieLady · 01/04/2022 12:42

Around here they raid traveller sites regularly to reclaim stolen caravans, etc

That might be because they can't find any black kids to traumatise and humiliate by strip searching them.

@Notanotherwindow

When someone broke into our house, I had to tell the police I was going to kill him before they came out. We had him cornered in our kitchen by a very large, very protective dog. Phoned police and were told to hold him there until they arrived but could be up to 4 hours!

In the end I told them that the dog was getting more and more aggressive with him and that if he made a move towards me I was going to stab him.

They arrived in 10 minutes after that and yes the dog did bite him.

Well done that dog!

It's really scary that a certain element of society really are untouchable isn't it

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 01/04/2022 13:14

Happened to us years ago, car was nicked, police took a report but weren't particularly interested. Reported to insurers who logged the claim but couldn't pay out until it had been gone for a set time.

A day or so later we got a call from a complete stranger to tell us the car was in the communal parking area by his house. He was pissed off that someone had parked there and then realised the car was abandoned, called the police but they weren't interested so he had a rummage around and found a phone number and called it!

We also called the police, they weren't interested so we asked if we could recover it ourselves.

My dad turned up, thanked the guy who called us, hot wired it (because the ignition had been smashed) and drove it home.

Everyone with keyless cars needs to get ghost fitted on their cars!

(This isn't a shameless advert I don't work for these people).

I've had ghost put on both my BMWs. It's about £400, and you have to I put a sequence or code with the buttons on your steering wheel or stereo. If someone nicks your keys they absolutely won't move that car. It doesn't effect warranty. You can turn it off at any point. You can also change the settings to limiting the car to 30mph for when it goes in for a service or a car wash.

I sleep so much better at night knowing if I got mugged or someone nicked my keys they wouldn't get my car moving.

It's so, so worth having. Much better than a tracker. It stops the thieves taking the car in the first place and damaging it. It's definitely something to get.

@GeminiTwin - cars really shouldn’t be this bloody easy to steal! You shouldn’t have to buy this Ghost to avoid a stolen car - not I accept that it’s an option obviously

Absolutely!

When I ordered my car I asked if I could just have a normal key and ignition. Not an option!

Yes the new systems are more tech savvy but it's making us do things like this to stop them from getting bloody nicked!

Definitely the way forward. I'm mortified reading some of these incidents 😲🤦🏼‍♀️

Call the police and tell them you have a baseball bat and you’re about to break the houses door down…they’ll soon turn up

Suja1 · 01/04/2022 17:52

I'm not shocked that the police won't do anything. I tracked down the person who stole my bag from a leisure centre locker (CCTV) and the place where she used all my cards (courtesy of the credit card company). Police (the Met) weren't interested and gave me a crime number for the insurance to deal with. Meanwhile, the criminal no doubt carried on her life of petty crime knowing nothing will happen to her.

Are you kidding?? I would. Get a freaking tow truck and get it back. Then charge the guilty party. Why dont the police help?? Ludicrous

Ddot · 01/04/2022 18:13

You think the met are bad try dealing with cleveland police. Their a joke, reported a break in down my allotment but apparently if I didnt have an allotment I wouldnt get burgled. So nothing surprised me anymore.

CMZ2018 · 01/04/2022 18:13

It’ll have been left there for a few days by the thieves to see if there’s a tracker on it

CMZ2018 · 01/04/2022 18:14

If you’re in the AA or RAC might be best to get them to tow to yours. Put a wheel lock on it and wheel clamp

My Quashqai has a keyless ignition.

So I purchased a Defender Key Pouch from Amazon. It blocks the signal from your key to the car, so they can’t clone it (they’re about £5 and work a treat!)

Not sure if anyone has recommended it or if you have keyless, but thought id mention it just in case it’s helpful Smile

Hutchy16 · 01/04/2022 18:16

Imagine how high your council tax would be if you all had the police round for every single time there was a car stolen…ffs that is what insurance is for. Report the crime, they will act if there is a pattern…it has to be cost effective for it to be worth doing as there are so many more serious crimes to be dealt with.

As for racism and the lgbt stuff, it’s irrelevant to this post. Yes racism is a problem and it needs to be dealt with, but it doesn’t bear any relation to this post…there should be a separate post raised if you want to discuss it (which I recommend because it is a huge issue)

Whoever made the stupid comment about will smith needs to remember 2 things…1) that is America, different laws and policing and 2) is it in the publics best interest to arrest a famous figure who is not (recently) known to have had altercations with others, and who slapped (definitely held back) someone who chose not to press charges…and not because of fear.

Christ this post just went off on a random tangent

It’s on the public road. Unlikely to be the criminal’s address apparently.

Have had a call back from the Met to say they’re closing the case. Shout out to the boys in blue!

Closed what case? They never even opened one did they? 😂

West Mids Police aren't the greatest at times, but the Met really take the biscuit!

londonmummy1966 · 01/04/2022 18:20

@WhyBeMeanLikeThat

I think it's awful that the police aren't helping but I don't agree with most of the posters on this thread that think it's because the police don't care or can't be bothered. As far as I can tell the people who are the most frustrated by the problems caused by the cutbacks to the police service are the police themselves.

People are also very quick to forget that it's not the police themselves who decide who to prosecute. Watch any of those TV police programs that deal with car crime and listen to what punishments offenders get. It's really depressing.

....and before any starts on about corrupt police etc I am aware that there bad police about.

The problem with this argument is that they were able to send 4 police officers pronto to a school to strip search a black child for a smell ......
