Fighter jets constant noise tonight

Live Northernish England. Anyone know what’s going on? Is there a night exercise? Sounds like we have been at an air show for the last hour. Looked on flightradar24 and can only see one Typhoon but there’s more out there surely?

Can see the Typhoon. Also one American airforce and couple of RAF planes up. Somethings going on.

soupmaker · 29/03/2022 21:23

Ooooh. Just found US Osprey whatever that is.

Workinghardeveryday · 29/03/2022 21:23

@LuluBlakey1 but I thought he went into a bunker a week ago?

Where have you read about dropping nuclear weapon recently? I can’t see anything

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 29/03/2022 21:25

One of those weird USAF osprey things was over us earlier at school pick up here in Yorkshire. It livened up the walk home!

Don't think it has much to do with Putin and his Siberian plans. If he does have plans of an atomic nature, a few planes buzzing around the north of England isn't going to do any good.

Mostly likely a scheduled training exercise.

soupmaker · 29/03/2022 21:29

Meanwhile there is a gulfstream jet heading west out of Moscow. Wonder where it's headed.

Jet2021 · 29/03/2022 21:30

There's a night exercise tonight.

Sometimes tracks more military planes than flightradar.

taylorsdoingapart · 29/03/2022 21:33

I think there's night exercises all this week out of Coningsby

Workinghardeveryday · 29/03/2022 21:35

I am panicking. What does it mean? Are we going to get bombed? !

SilverHairedCat · 29/03/2022 21:38

I'd imagine if you're near an air force base that it's just a night exercise. Occupational hazard of living near one. I'm in Cornwall. We have the Monday 1130 nuclear siren test each week at the Plymouth Naval base, Thursday wars and frequent sounds of gunfire from the range at HMS Raleigh plus the marines on operational training across the Rame Peninsula.

The marines scared the crap out of the entire town last year when they were using machine guns on the river Tamar - we'd not heard that noise from so close before and the direction of the wind made it sound like it was happening outside all our houses!

SilverHairedCat · 29/03/2022 21:39

@Workinghardeveryday it means diddly - honestly, it's most likely to be nothing more than a night exercise. OP hasn't stated where they are, but if they are near a base then it's very normal noise. Perhaps they are not familiar with that area?

No.

We live in an area which is widely used for exercises and it has been extremely busy for months. My DS says they usually get military aircraft flying over their school once or twice a week but this term it has been at least daily. And there have been lots of different types from a number of different countries. We normally just see British and American jets most of the time but this year there has been a much wider variety. We've assumed there's a connection to the war in Ukraine but who knows really? Nothing has been different today here.

WildRosie · 29/03/2022 21:42

Leeds Bradford Airport was expecting two Typhoons to do an approach and fly by down the runway tonight. Only one turned up eventually. I guess it's just routine night time training exercises. Leeds Bradford is often used by the RAF and Army Air Corps for training jollies. I won't use the official term - sorties - because it sounds naff and stuffy.

Eaumyword · 29/03/2022 21:44

It's been very loud here (Midlands) but we are on an RAF flight path.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/03/2022 21:45

Love a bit of Flight tracking.

I always knew the police had helicopters, didn't realise they had planes too... (currently doing little circles north of Rotherham...)

OutsideVoice · 29/03/2022 21:46

There’s an RAF pilot who lives in my village, he regularly puts posts up warning of extra noise with night exercise.

Has anyone else seen a Boeing osprey flying at night? It’s an incredible sight, looks very UFOish.

Keepingthingsinteresting · 29/03/2022 21:47

The osprey is nearly back home to mildenhall!

Workinghardeveryday · 29/03/2022 21:48

We live very close to airbase. Yesterday it was so loud it made me jump (don’t normally hear them). But I haven’t heard anything tonight..

Just panicking after seeing that about subs on news just now.

Hate Pucking - Putin

Lovemusic33 · 29/03/2022 21:49

They have been about for a few weeks now, I think it’s some kind of training exercise they do each year. They are not all British planes, some are American (from looking at flight tracker). Nothing to worry about. I’m a bit of a flight tracker nerd and have been tracking them for a few weeks 🤣

Troublesometooth · 29/03/2022 21:49

Yep.

We live nearby so are used to it, but I must admit tonight is extra noisy and keeping me awake.

DearlyBeloathed · 29/03/2022 21:51

Absolutely not. None of that is out of the ordinary.
XenoBitch · 29/03/2022 21:53

I am close to an airbase too. I would say I am hearing more activity, but it is probably the same level as long before the Ukraine invasion. We are just more sensitive to it now.
Not worried at all.
