OMG people do realise that other man is not Chris Rock 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Legalconundrums · 28/03/2022 08:57

Staged for publicity

Onlywomengivebirth · 28/03/2022 08:58

It was a stupid and incredibly lazy joke, much like the joke before directed at Penelope and Javier. ( haven’t read the entire thread so not sure if anyone clocked that already). Total yawn fest. Typical jokes made by stupid bloke. Will’s reaction, was also a predictable yawn fest. Im sure his wife can stand up for herself in a more dignified manner. I’m embarrassed for the both of them.

jungledoc · 28/03/2022 08:58

on the twitter clip!

No I didn’t. Totally on me for judging it without checking Blush
Swayingpalmtrees · 28/03/2022 08:58

Jada owes it to herself to know whether the oscars is going to work for her or not, whether she is feeling strong enough in herself to take the jokes at face value, and to feel comfortable with whatever the comedian may or may not say mrs It is not about hiding away.

But this wasn't about Jada or her condition was it, this was an alpha male moment to show who can dominate. If either had wanted to bring some world attention to Jada's condition they could have both done so in a respectful way. Both chose not to.

Hopingforabagofbuttons · 28/03/2022 08:58

He got the hugs and applause tonight, but don't be surprised if we start to see a lot less of him.

Well that will be the best thing to come out of this cringeworthy shit storm

Onlywomengivebirth · 28/03/2022 09:00

@gazprom

we need to remember that oscars ceremonies have become 'roasts' over the years. A clearly defined and expected situation where a clebrity will be the target of insults and mockery, along with fellow attendees. Everybody knows this. It's got a little of the flavour of court jestering, and takes into account that everyone there has high social capitol.

So it's a defined space where people get mocked and are supposed to take it. Outside of the ceremony, one wouldn't expect them to take it.

I think Chris Rock is a knob for his trans stance but here, compared with Gervais, his roasting is tame

I don’t know about that, Ricky doesn’t tend to punch down does he?
Applesonthelawn · 28/03/2022 09:00

@LosingTheWill2022

What we saw was a very public demonstration of how men in positions of power are enabled to abuse. Security didn't act and the academy didn't act because Will Smith is one of the most successful men in their industry.

Smith has shown who he is. No way would his first act of physical aggression have been this one.

Rock has shown who he is by his offensive and hurtful words. But I'm appalled that people think those words justify physical assault.

Jada was abused by both men.

This sums it up perfectly.
Swayingpalmtrees · 28/03/2022 09:00

It is an ugly stain on the oscars/The Academy either way.

Strawberry33 · 28/03/2022 09:03

@GrantedIamtired

What is predictable is MN minimising and overlooking Jada's hurt. The focus will be on violence which should be but shocking how black women are a fair game in comedy
Nothing to do with race- everyone is fair game to most comedians. Where is your evidence of it being mostly black women? What a reach…
donquixotedelamancha · 28/03/2022 09:03

If a string of shit films doesn't kill Will Smith's career then I doubt this will.

Hollywood still lauds and gives work to antisemites, wife beaters, proven rapists and alleged pedophiles- this isn't that bad by the Hollywood yard stick.

Now if he'd said women are adult human females he'd be fucked.

Peoniesandpeaches · 28/03/2022 09:03

@MrsLargeEmbodied

Are you lot so racist you can’t see that this is very clearly not Chris Rock and even more clearly staged bs at someone’s house not the Oscar’s.
jungledoc · 28/03/2022 09:04

You'd like to think backstage of the Oscars would be a tad more glam with better lighting!

Wheresthebeach · 28/03/2022 09:04

It was all about Will Smith being an Alpha Male. He should be charged with assault. I can't believe anyone thinks this is okay. The joke was in bad taste, but it's not the first ill conceived joke in history. I hope he loses his Oscar under their code of conduct. If he doesn't, then their code of conduct isn't worth anything. Hollywood has a history of untouchable men who behave badly - it needs to end.

Couldn't agree more! You can get up and belt someone in a room full of people but saying anything other than TWAW and it's cancel time for you.

DidymusAmbrosius · 28/03/2022 09:06

@Wagsandclaws

That Twitter clip isn't Chris Rock 🤣
I know right.

It's actually a bit insulting people think it is. For a start - how quickly do people think Chris can grow a beard??? Grin

Agrudge · 28/03/2022 09:06

I guess its wills turn to be involved on a "entanglement" just a different sort

jungledoc · 28/03/2022 09:07

twitter scammed me

CosmopolitanPlease · 28/03/2022 09:10

Fucking hell, as if a pp posted that 'reaction backstage' clip fully believing it was Chris Rock. And another pp mixed up Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle. As someone else said, I hope some of you aren't called up for jury service!

gazprom · 28/03/2022 09:10

" Ricky doesn’t tend to punch down does he?"

He has made jokes about autism, about ME as “not the crippling, wasting disease. No, the thing that makes you say, ‘I don’t wanna go to work today.’”

He mocked Cosby victims, musing celebrities might be, essentially, unrape-able. First, he drops a slightly baffling joke implying that Helen Mirren is too much of a lady to be sexually assaulted. Then, he makes a fatphobic comment about Melissa McCarthy being too much of “a beast” to be knocked out by his drugs

Then there's the transphobe stuff, but this is mumsnet so I guess that';s not reprehensible

Oh and he joined into the dreadful Louis CK defending in front of Chris Rock using the N work (and says it 17 times out loud) where even the odious Jerry Seinfeld had to call it off and said it wasn't cool.

So, yes they are Roastathons and anything goes but don#t say he doesn't punch down

Poor woman. Mocked for everyone’s entertainment. I hope his actions made it easier for her. I suspect she will hear the comment on repeat from every ignorant hurtful heckler for a long time though.

I’m mixed race and agree, nothing and no one is off the cards when it comes to this type of comedy.
