I know. Chris rock may have been out of line but you can’t just walk on stage and punch someone like that. Wonder what will happen after the ceremony.
Will be interesting if Will Smith wins the Oscar now.

sashh · 28/03/2022 04:18

He's won

Newtonred · 28/03/2022 04:18

Apparently Will Smith was being consoled in the break by Denzel Washington and Will smith was crying- maybe realising he has just tarnished his possible first ever Oscar win, which no one will now be talking about after what has happened.

My god I hope he never attends the Golden Globes if Ricky Gervais hosts again, there will be carnage.

Newtonred · 28/03/2022 04:19

I wonder if he will mention it in his speech. I really hoped someone else would win it after that

Jobsharenightmare · 28/03/2022 04:20

Could it have been a performance between them?

DownUdderer · 28/03/2022 04:23

Blimey! Have you seen the full clip?

DownUdderer · 28/03/2022 04:24

Will Smith used the f word!

FleckingHeck · 28/03/2022 04:25

I saw it and was like WTF Confused

We couldn't work out if it was staged or not, but Chris did seem to be a little thrown off.

I don't think it was a punch, but an open palm slap? It was weird!

FleckingHeck · 28/03/2022 04:26

Dh and I watched it live.

Newtonred · 28/03/2022 04:26

On a different note what is with these dresses that just stop short of exposing the nether regions (and quite often do). Some of them must literally be taped down the groin or even further in order to stay in place

Jobsharenightmare · 28/03/2022 04:28

Just watched his speech. Well well indeed! So pleased he won as was the crowd it seems.

sashh · 28/03/2022 04:29

I think it was genuine, if you look at Jada's face she clearly isn't happy.

Apparently his speech mentioned 'protecting' a lot.

CheeseMuffin · 28/03/2022 04:31
, and yes it was a slap rather than a punch but still utterly bizarre. Will is laughing at Chris's GI Jane joke and then is furious a few seconds later. I guess it could've been staged but I don't think it was. Truly a moment that'll go down in Oscar history!

On a slow mo video I’ve seen will is smiling while he’s walking away. I think it was staged

Frangiblepins88 · 28/03/2022 04:35

Hang on, why did he laugh at the joke initially if it wasn't a set up? They are all actors after all.

sashh · 28/03/2022 04:36

Maybe he was still laughing from the last 'joke' or maybe he looked at his wife.

Either way making fun of someone's alopecia is not a good look.

MollyRover · 28/03/2022 04:37

Something really off about Chris Rock in general, I remember seeing him on Graham Norton once and his attitude towards women was pretty disgusting. Wouldn't surprise me if there was genuine animosity there. Chris Rock is just not funny either, real "lowest common denominator" comedy in my opinion.

Frangiblepins88 · 28/03/2022 04:37

But the shouting afterwards does look real tbh.

CheeseMuffin · 28/03/2022 04:38

His acceptance speech seems to indicate it was genuine but who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't think it was staged. That pressnter looked genuinely stunned. So did his wife.
SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 28/03/2022 04:38

I’ve just been woken up by twatty loud near-neighbours and have just seen this. I’ve missed the live broadcast but the footage is everywhere.

It’s really not a good joke but the response is not good either.

Yeah. Very real.
unname · 28/03/2022 04:39

I’m sure it is fake.

Nancydrawn · 28/03/2022 04:41

Everyone who's there said it was real. You can see the unedited moment on twitter.

What a very strange moment. I felt particularly bad for Questlove, whose amazing documentary got totally overshadowed when it was announced a moment later.

I am also very, very uncomfortable with anyone having such a hair-trigger for violence. If that's what they do in front of everyone, at one of the most televised live events of the year...puts me on edge.

Thank god for Amy Schumer and Denzel Washington, who pulled things back on track in different ways.

LaCerbiatta · 28/03/2022 04:42

OMG 100% a joke!!!
