Pair of self-inportant arseholes so not a surprise to see them acting as such, with a nice dollop of misogyny and toxic masculinity thrown in

Peoniesandpeaches · 28/03/2022 06:32

@PAFMO

Nice to see the disablism apologists out in force. Will Smith should have knocked him out. Hopefully it'll be Rock who gets cancelled and not WS. At least the latter can act and doesn't resort to 1970s style sexism and disablism to get his kicks.
While emotionally devastating (I suffer scalp psoriasis and lost my hair due to it so I am not underestimating it’s impact) alopecia it is not medically disabling. It is crass to throw around accusations of disablism.
rabbitwoman · 28/03/2022 06:34

Sorry, you are comparing alopecia to cerebral palsey?

?????

Would Chris Rock even have known that jada Smith had alopecia? I didn't. And lots and lots of women shave their heads.

Will Smith is a beloved actor, who has always seemed so lovely, cool, easy going; he lost his cool, for no reason. It makes everyone less uncomfortable to try and pretend Chris rock deserved it rather than admit that there might be a nasty side to will Smith we have not seen before.

But Chris rock did not deserve it. I have seen this before, men needing to take aggression and frustration out on the nearest target and using the tiniest excuse, and it does not impress me much.

There is definitely something else going on.

Dentistlakes · 28/03/2022 06:34

He assaulted someone live on stage. Why wasn’t be removed by security? The joke was really nasty but his reaction was violent and inappropriate. There’s no way he should have been allowed just to return to his seat like that. A disgusting incident all round.

Hopingforabagofbuttons · 28/03/2022 06:34

As soon as Smith walked back to his seat , you can see Chris looking to his left, behind the scenes so to speak. He’s looking like WTF, what do I do, do I just carry on.
Smith sitting there , carrying on with his verbal abuse. You can see the anger in him , and hear it in his voice. I can’t think how anyone thinks this is staged.
As I said before it was a shit joke, and when someone is unwell then those jokes should be off the table, absolutely. However Smith has spent his whole career cultivating the good guy image, I think we all see through that now

RantyAunty · 28/03/2022 06:34

There's always been talk of his toxic behaviour behind the scenes. The public just got to see it.

Terfydactyl · 28/03/2022 06:36

I am also very, very uncomfortable with anyone having such a
hair-trigger for violence. If that's what they do in front of everyone, at one of the most televised live events of the year...puts me on edge

My first thought after seeing the clips was I bet that's why she has alopecia, it's often caused by stress and a violent partner is pretty stressful. And if he is willing to do this to a man on live TV, how bad can it be at home now.

unname · 28/03/2022 06:36

This is Will Smith’s 3rd best actor nomination and he actually won an Academy Award tonight. He is definitely a good enough actor to pull off a stupid prank.

Again, not saying that’s what happened but it is certainly possible.

No. YOU are excusing someone who jokes about a woman suffering from it.
jungledoc · 28/03/2022 06:36

Chris Rock has had that coming for years, misogynistic arsehole. Good.

I'm not a fan but hitting is ok now?

Loopytiles · 28/03/2022 06:37

Yes, and suspect that’s why he was upset. Because of how his actions will affect him.

Violence is not ‘protective’ or an expression of love.

NameGoesHere · 28/03/2022 06:37

It was a punch… you could hear it on the clip.

Did jada leave as she didn’t seem to be at her seat afterwards?

EmmaH2022 · 28/03/2022 06:38

Oh, that would make sense, she's not in the shot at all.
Phos · 28/03/2022 06:38

@rabbitwoman

Because it’s about his role in their success that’s why

Kanaloa · 28/03/2022 06:40

I don’t like Chris Rock but you just can’t hit people. You just can’t. If you disagree with someone/someone has offended you don’t attack them. It’s inexcusable as I see it. And just so odd.

jungledoc · 28/03/2022 06:40

This'll be manna from heaven to right-wing groups.

agree that in no way it's a set up.

merrymelodies · 28/03/2022 06:40

Will Smith totally overreacted. Vulgar, stupid and shameful. If I were Jada, I'd be mortified. He should have been escorted off the premises, award notwithstanding. Okay, the joke wasn't kind but SM, the press, etc is full of taunts, criticism, memes, jokes, whatever towards celebrities. That's the trade off for fame.

NdefH81 · 28/03/2022 06:41

They agreed to do it beforehand
To add some much needed drama and excitement to the Oscars
So obvious

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 28/03/2022 06:41

For anyone that doesn’t know Will Smith grew up in a household with DV from his father to his mother. He has said that one of the worst things in his early years was not being able to protect her.

I don’t think violence is the answer, but Chris Rock in not a comedian and was a real bully with what he said. It was nasty. He could say anything up on stage and the people on the receiving end are just meant to sit there and take it.

Again I don’t think violence is the answer, but I think Chris Rock was out of order. Taking the piss out of someone’s medical condition is low.

Kanaloa · 28/03/2022 06:42

Not that I think Chris Rock’s joke was funny or even acceptable - I don’t really like these events where celebrities have to sit and smile through nasty jokes that are usually meant to be shocking rather than witty/funny. I don’t really find them funny I just find it a bit embarrassing. I do think there’s a way to draw the celeb into the joke without it being nasty and unkind. But you still can’t hit people.

Habitatty282 · 28/03/2022 06:45

I'm a Will Smith fan, don't know much about Chris Rock. Appalling behaviour by WS. It doesn't matter what the joke was, you don't resort to violence.

NdefH81 · 28/03/2022 06:46

Baffling to me to think that anyone would think this is real!!

Will smith and CR are friends
Both are actors
The Oscars has lost loads of viewing figures and becoming stale and regarded as out of date
Totally anPR staged event to get it back on everyone’s radar

unname · 28/03/2022 06:47

I really don’t think it’s real. Chris Rock hardly missed a beat. The sound was the microphone.

Kanaloa · 28/03/2022 06:47

Surely it wouldn’t work to boost viewing figures though because most people have found out afterwards? Unless you knew it was going to happen it wouldn’t make you tune in.

learningalways · 28/03/2022 06:47

That was 100% real. Absolutely real. I can't see why anyone would think any of that was fake.
