It's Sunday. I'm bored! Do you have any celebrity friends as in close enough to have them on Watsapp etc. Come on give us a clue, maybe some MNers will even be brave enough to tell us names!

OP posts:

A family member used to be involved with security for Charles and Diana and would often fly with them.

@FromDespairToHere

Bleeding hell Fish gets around doesn't he! I'm starting to feel like I'm the only person on this thread who doesn't actually know him Grin
I don't know him but I did know his former fiancee from many years ago. She was also a musician, singer and songwriter with a brilliant if sorely underrated local band.

I skated at the old Nottingham ice rink the same time as Torville and Dean. They didn't skate together at the time, both with other parteners and Jayne later figure skated alone. I always remember Jayne as straight faced and non smiley when she skated. I left Nottingham and moved abroad,skating,and some years later to my great surprise I saw them on the tele having just become World Champions together. Nice people. They worked hard to get where they are now.

I grew up living in a village with Rowan Atkinson. He knows my name 😁 asked my mum how her kids were by name (both in our 30s!)

Really nice guy. I’ve seen so much bad press about him, but he’s never been anything but lovely!

One of my best friends is a drive time radio presenter on BBC Radio Oxford. Does he count?

Ahh this one is nice 😁 I have such a soft spot for Rowan Atkinson! He gave my son his first proper belly laugh at the tv when he was a toddler, he'd never paid much attention to the TV before but Mr Bean came on after something else and my little boy couldn't take his eyes off the screen, it was like he couldn't believe what he was seeing 😂 so cute! After that he became obsessed and used to walk around with a mr bean toy and little car!

@AndForMyNextNameChange

Peter Gabriel is a friend (via his wife), DH is/was also a musician, he is friends with PG.

Midge Ure friendly, have done each other favours over time.

Used to be friends with Paula Yates, met Michael Hutchence via her and saints forgive me, but he wasn't just good looking, he was magnetic.

Me and DH were friends with Bob Geldof, I was team Paula when they split, DH stayed friends with Bob. Everything you think you know about BG & PY split? It was like that, but worse. DH & BG still occasionally stay in touch.

Tony Wilson was unforgettable and unintentionally hilarious.

My biggest claim to fame is that I was back stage during Nirvana's set at Reading in 1992.

My biggest celebrity crush is probably Nick Cave, I worked with him a few times. He's masculine/not afraid to show his feelings. Genuinely a kind man.

I worked in the entertainment industry for years, so I knew loads who were famous in the 80s & 90s. DH was a session musician, he played on some big albums.

We moved out of London for good in the late 90s to raise our family.

Would love to know more about PY and BG! Spill the beans!

@Hearwego

My dad used to work with a guy who’s brother is in a very famous band - The Progidy. The lead singer. Lots of money obviously, but apparently he didn’t give his brother handouts, and he didn’t expect anything.

One of my uncles used to have a window cleaning round and had done work for Nicholas Lyndhurst back in the late 90s, he was a regular customer.

If that's Keith Flint, sadly he died not too long ago.
Itcanneverbesaved · 28/03/2022 22:23

@hidinginthekitchenwithwine Is this the morning presenter too?

@Slatkater A female chef?

Sofasogood1 · 28/03/2022 22:25

Can't be arsed to name change so sorry for not being specific but my dad is friends with the brother of a super famous musician from the 1970s. This friend now plays in the band too. He came out for my dad's birthday lunch this year. Talked a bit about the band in general music chit chat and my DP was like 'yeah never been a fan' not clocking who he was Grin Musician was utterly lovely and like 'oh ok cool yeah'.

Oh also remember I think I kind of went on a date with the son of a really super famous musician, same era. I was never completely sure it was a date?!

Erm what else... Will come back.

Salita · 28/03/2022 22:26

My Mum dated Bryan Ferry when she was young, does that count! I was friends with the late Shirley Clarkson (Jeremy’s Mum), she was a wonderful lady. I met Mark Owen from Take That in a nightclub in Cyprus back in the day!

Familylimbo · 28/03/2022 22:30

Claudia winkleman xx

earsup · 28/03/2022 22:33

I have worked part time for a famous actor.....cannot say who...not american...has a terrible coke habit, drinks a lot and is incontinent.

also worked for a man in finance who was in the news at some point...never trusted anyone....cash stuffed under fridge, duvet, washing machine etc....!!

Bogofballs · 28/03/2022 22:38

Stephen Hawking- my parents used to cook and serve his lunch on a regular basis , often joined by his family at weekends when I would see him (I spent a lot of time at my parent’s workplace as they worked split shifts). Yes, he at solid food - or at least he did in the 80s/early 90s. They were just a normal family. He once ran over my foot in HMV buying CD for his child!

Chris Smith (the Covid expert wheeled out on BBB Breakfast)- through his media work years ago, when Naked Scientists was just gaining traction. He told me he named it after Jamie Oliver. Outgoing and enthusiastic guy, just like you see on the news. Great science communicator and was obviously very ambitious. I thought he’d have his own tv show by now.

I don't think Cilla's marriage was unhappy. I thought she and Bobby doted on each other. By all accounts she was also a lovely person, but that said I didn't know her![/quote]
I've never heard ANY account that said she was a lovely person

Drocol · 28/03/2022 22:43

Not really celebrities' but Henry Bolton, ex-leader of UKIP asked me to marry him long before he got involved in politics and became a total arse. I did say no :-) Daughter goes to school with Simon Pegg's daughter. He is nice enough, always hides away and wears a hat at School functions. Know an Actor well, not film famous but on TV and in the theatre frequently, and I work for a Member of Parliament, so I meet some well known faces.

AnnieSnap · 28/03/2022 22:44

I used to know the original bass guitarist in Simply Red, but later my friend divorced him!

Wow! That means your mum is very, very cool!
viques · 28/03/2022 22:50

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

I saw Marty Feldman in a bar in Brighton, but I wasn't able to catch his eye...
I saw Alan Rickman in Harrods , he looked straight through me. No emotion, just as though we were complete strangers.
mummabubs · 28/03/2022 22:52

Not sure if this counts but 10 years ago I lived next door to Marcus Bentley (narrator of Big Brother) and his family for 2 years... But didn't realise it! I knew his first name was Marcus and used to chat to him often, he was friendly and a good neighbour. Then literally the day after I moved out I saw his picture in a TV guide due to the latest series of BB being on TV and I couldn't believe I hadn't recognised his voice and put two and two together 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

spectre1356 · 28/03/2022 22:52

@SheilaTheGr3at

Yes, I'm good friends with Fish from Marillion and we exchange messages weekly and chat

I realise most of you won't know who this is

My grandad picked my name from on their songs!
Honourofgrayskull · 28/03/2022 22:54

Has the funny, hairy, woman's name been revealed yet?

torthecatlady · 28/03/2022 22:56

Has the funny, hairy, woman's name been revealed yet?
I don't think so.
WhoIsCraz · 28/03/2022 23:03

I used to live in the same street as the woman who created the best band in living memory, Noel and Liam’s mum!

SerialNameChanger2114 · 28/03/2022 23:05

@BlaBlaSmthSmth glad it made you smile :)

When I was about 10, I had a penpal up in Northumbria, and I asked him very nicely if he’d sign a Mr Bean address book for this penpal, and he was like “of course!” She said to me (more recently on Facebook - oh how times have changed!) it was the best present she had ever received.

He’s just a normal bloke to me 😂 although my eldest is like “nah mum, you don’t know him!”

@Justleaveitblankthen

Unfortunately, PPS who are being unnecessarily vague "Actor in a long running Netflix series" Hmm You are making what could be a fun and interesting thread into a pointless one.

One of my closest buddies is Melanie Chisholm from the Spice girls.

I used to work with her brother many moons ago. She rang work once lol, I nearly dropped the phone!

He was lovely - she seemed nice too (and both quite normal!)
