Scoobydoooo99 · 26/03/2022 17:30

Hi, I know this has been posted a lot before and please don’t judge me, I feel so so sad for the people
Of Ukraine and am doing what I can to help them in regards to donations ect and I can’t ever imagine to be them, however is anyone terrified the nuclear war is about to kick off here, I can’t get the idea out of my head! I suffer with anxiety
Disorder anyway and have only just got over the idea of Covid for the last 2 years with life being pretty much non existent and now this! I know non of you can give me an answer to what may happen in the future, but I wondered what everyone else’s views are and how your managing your anxieties and worries please.
Thanks

Sorry you're struggling but can't say I share your worries, nothing you can do to prevent or protect yourself. If you haven't already, I'd seek support, I'm sorrry you're struggling, there's so much to be anxious about these days. Try not watching the news, that helped me massively with covid anxieties!

Agree with Ginfilledcats. There's no point worrying about something if you can't do anything about it. You just ruin your MH for no reason.

I’m not a bit no, and Ken Dodd I am 100 percent. I try to fear monger by any means I feel like that was extremely unnecessary and harsh! I have stopped watching the news, but have been using this website to try and keep informed and updated without all the media hype and it’s a mums website which I feel is to support each other no attack someone because you things I’m scaremongering that was not my intention at all, I just wondered if my fear was justified or was it me being overly terrified?! I’m sorry if I offended you

Frostylaudanum · 26/03/2022 17:48

No.
I suffer from anxiety too. I avoid the news which helps a lot.

toastfiend · 26/03/2022 17:49

I'm slightly suspicious that there's been two (at least) of these threads within the last week...

Anyway, taking this in good faith - no, I'm not. Mildly concerned that the likelihood has increased by virtue of the fact that tensions are higher, but we've had a surprising number of near misses in the past that I think actually demonstrate that people's appetites for this kind of war is actually low when it comes to crunch time, and long may that continue.

I think it could happen if someone like Trunp was in charge and decided to go in all guns blazing and treating the situation without any tact or diplomacy, but fortunately we're not in that position and NATO countries seem to be handling the situation very carefully at present, precisely to avoid that outcome.

RoostasTowel · 26/03/2022 17:50

No

slimshady18 · 26/03/2022 17:50

@Kendodd

Oh, and spare a thought for others who might really suffer with anxiety, merrily scrolling through the 'chat' threads when yours pops up. Shame on you posting that on this board.
the world cant cater to everyones needs
Scoobydoooo99 · 26/03/2022 17:51

And kendodd your kind arnt you! I’m sorry, but I suffer severely from anxiety disorder and you may never know how that feels, but I just wanted to speak to other people are see how they felt and if my feelings or fears were also being shared by others it was not supposed
To scare people at all!

OP posts:
Kendodd · 26/03/2022 17:51

using this website to try and keep informed and updated
Why?
Why do you want to keep informed and updates on something that terrifies you?
This will be my last post on this thread, I don't want to keep it in the active list.

Scoobydoooo99 · 26/03/2022 17:54

Thank you to everyone that posted and even just gave a bit of insight in how you feel, I maybe shouldn’t have posted this and really didn’t expect this reaction from people and and now worrying I may have upset or worried someone else intentionally so for that I promise was not my intention at all, but thank you for even taking the time to respond

OP posts:
Caminante · 26/03/2022 17:59

PP don't feel shamed or guilted by posting what you did. You are allowed to ask what others are thinking, thats the whole point of Mumsnet.

I think a lot of people felt like you in the first days of the invasion but anxiety has generally levelled out as time has passed.

Easy to say but there's no point even thinking about it--all of these events are out of the control of most people. Spend time enjoying your life each day, stay away from the news and be kind to yourself.

Scoobydoooo99 · 26/03/2022 18:04

Thank you so much, I know I can’t control
It or whatever and I would love
To be one of those people who lived life like fuck it !? Excuse my language, but I also fear the worst and I just don’t know if my fear is justified or it is me fearing the worst as normal! I really hope some sort of peace can be agreed between them and somehow all the hurt and death can be avoided!

OP posts:
SaxendaSummer · 26/03/2022 18:16

i'm not worried, no

the threat was there in the 80's, i did my worrying then!

longwayoff · 26/03/2022 18:16

Yes, everyone, but as there is nothing any of us can do to affect the outcome we're trying to ignore it. Fear is ordinary, fear is justified but hopefully Putin is really as scared as everyone else and some kind of compromise will be cobbled together. Fingers crossed 🤞.

CailleachGranda · 26/03/2022 18:25

No

If it happens it happens. There's nothing we can do about it so no point in worrying

Just enjoy life - look at the poor Ukrainians and how quickly their freedom has turned into horror.

3WildOnes · 26/03/2022 18:26

No. I don’t have the time or energy to waste worrying about things that are unlikely to happen.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 26/03/2022 18:33

Putrid should be afraid. Very afraid. His time is coming to an end I'm afraid. He has achieved only misery and violence. He's a failure as a man. He's nothing but a micro goblin. History will judge his evil crimes. He's coming to a sticky end.

I will report your post and ask for it to be moved to mental health. Whilst I sympathise with you, these posts should not keep popping up on Chat to terrorise us all.

Spacecadetagain · 26/03/2022 18:39

Well given that Russia have bid to host the Euros in 28 or 32 .. then that doesn’t sound like a country set on total destruction of the world …. I’m all out of energy to worry about things I have no control over after the last two years … I’ve broken my heart over what is happening in Ukraine but I refuse to worry myself to death about Nuclear war because worrying won’t change anything ..

Cocycola · 26/03/2022 18:40

Honestly, I am disgusted after reading at some replies here. The OP has posted as she feels anxious about something current in the news on, oh yes a 'chat' forum, and gets told off and shamed by people for scare mongering and told she shouldn't have posted it. Perhaps these people shouldn't have opened the thread seeing as it was obvious from the title what it's about Hmm

OP, reading some news reports it can be very difficult to not get the absolute fear put into you with words like 'nuclear war', and the like getting used. However, while nobody can guarantee what will happen, the news will be very sensationalist and there are so many 'possibilities' being thrown about as to what could happen, and a lot of it probably won't ever happen. Also, many people with little knowledge of anything to do with it and a negative outlook will start coming out with all sorts of things (I won't repeat what I overheard a man in the supermarket saying last week, some people have totally lost the head about it which creates much unneeded anxiety). We must all try to not work ourselves up too much and stick to the facts of the here and now.

I know someone who watches Newsround, the more child friendly news reports to get the facts in a less alarming way.

Why? If you don't like it just scroll past. Are you asking for newspapers to be removed from the shelves in case the headlines terrorise you?
