Leading the story time is a slippery slope to running the group lemons! voice of bitter experience what book did you choose?

Sounds like DD is having a good time silkie and has at least deigned to keep in contact a bit…

I did a 10 hour day in work today, including a working lunch. But hopefully all is squared away now for 2 weeks except for Tuesday when I have to pop in for a couple of hours I can almost taste the gin which I will be pouring when DH and DC4 finish the ponies and DC2 is back from swim club.

Welcome, @AnchorWHAT, and thanks for sharing your mundane lipstick news. How do you like the new color?

Congratulations Prok on your son's passing grade, and Echo on your new job. Here it's pretty standard to get your course fee back if you haven't started the course yet.

Champagne, I am jealous of your night out, but not of the heavy metal music.

Helena, you certainly deserve the time off and a bit of a tipple.

Shoes, the deer is in a bit of the front garden. It's a county nature preserve on the other side of the rock wall. I'm hoping in a few months I have the flowers back in the garden.

Ha @HelenaJustina I normally can’t attend as I’m working. This one was on on the non pupil day so I managed to re arrange things so I could go. I got handed a book not one I would pick! It was a story about a farmer. The story was long winded so I made it up. Enjoy your Easter break.

I plan to go into setting on the day DS has nursery as there are things I need to do. I must also remember to water the plants!

Just changed DS who must have had a poop in his sleep. He woke up mid change but had promptly gone back to sleep.

cigarettesNalcohol · 08/04/2022 21:17

Went to garden centre and bought a scarf for a gift. Cashier offered me a fancy bag (free of charge) and wrapping tissue to package it up nicely. How's that for dull...

Part 2 of Dcat's brush with the vet went a bit better. I just about managed to get the Gabapentin into her while she hissed at me. It didn't seem to be having any effect two hours later when we set off, but heyho. There was a veterinary resident there this time as well as two of the assistants from Wednesday, and the vet. The resident said he had heard all about Dcat's performance on Wednesday. All present donned the big gloves and I noticed they were all patched with duct tape and covered with little nicks, many from Dcat I assume, but hopefully not all Blush. The annual exam went pretty well after that, but Dcat has somehow managed to pick up ear mites which the vet treated, and we all have to try to clean out her ears once a day and apply ear drops twice a day for a week. I have a pair of men's insulated winter gloves, which DD4 will use while trying to hold Dcat rolled in a bathmat while I do the irrigating, wiping, and applying of ear drops. Sadly, we are out of Gabapentin.

Echobelly congratulations on your job offer and refund.

AnchorWhat congratulations on a new colour.

CigarettesNalacohol it's always nice to get a free bag.

MissC your garden looks fantastic.

Silkies hope your DD is having a nice, relaxing time.

Helena hope you enjoyed the gin.

Champagne hope Ddog behaved himself during his grooming.

Lemons thank you for mentioning plant watering. I have to do that tomorrow.

Shoes - commiserations. Hope you're not feeling too ill.

DoctorTwo I did that with my first post natal appointment after DD4 was born. They saw me all the same.

Silkierabbit · 09/04/2022 06:08

Hope you can get a break now Helena

Hope you had a nice evening Champagne

We always say on the SN thread that the SN help is about as useful as a chocolate teapot so you could be right Lemons

The vet decided just to see DH and not Silkiecat, presumably wanted some hands left for the weekend Wink but she has more meds.

Birds are singing. I woke up at 3am or so, watched Below Deck Australia and did about 15 mins exercise from bed trying to reduce the neuropathy, its working but not my feet.

Had a Chinese takeaway for dinner, just the one from the village. My new ISA has gone through. DD still in France and seems to be going OK.

Champagneforeveryone · 09/04/2022 09:35

Our evening at the heavy metal joint was rudely curtailed as they have now implemented an 18+ policy, even if you are 17 and 49weeks, drinking coke and with your parents. Guess where we'll be going in May?!

DDog1 was very well behaved at the groomers, but is already covered in mud. I'll attach a gratuitous dog picture of his new haircut.

Anyone here learnt Latin in school using the Cambridge Latin books? I've just read that the books have had to be rewritten because Caecillius had a slave, and this sits badly with modern values. I heartily wished it was the first of April but sadly not Hmm

Enjoy the Easter break all those of you off work. The weather here is sunny but chilly and many horsey people are doing horsey things outside the window.

Silkierabbit · 09/04/2022 09:42

MIL made a call at 8am asking DH if he had any friends that could have DD for a while. Wink

Champagneforeveryone · 09/04/2022 09:44

"Anyone here learnt Latin in school using the Cambridge Latin books? I've just read that the books have had to be rewritten because Caecillius had a slave, and this sits badly with modern values."

So they are whitewashing / rewriting history? Shall we do that with every part of history then? How about abolishing Latin and all it's decendants, because you cannot benefit from people/events with 'not modern' values? Hmm

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/04/2022 09:49

On a calmer note:
DS could achieve a 2 before the comma, which would land him in 'above expectation' territory, if he decided to work for it. But I stay out of this discussion.

Lemonsandlemonade · 09/04/2022 20:09

Aww what a cute dog 😀 champagne.

Oh gosh Silkie glad your DD got away. Hope your MIL is still coping.

Finally after 4 weeks and serval issues I now have a new washing machine 🎉 and also 6 tons of washing to do!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/04/2022 20:23

Champagne What a lovely little dog!
And Lemon enjoy your laundry Smile

DH and I discussed durning "dinner" that if you sleep on a train should the bunk be in travel direction or not? He prefers his bunk to be along the wall. I do not care because I sleep everywhere.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 22: Calmly through the day
Champagneforeveryone · 09/04/2022 21:21

prok I am also equally gifted in my ability to sleep anywhere (admittedly I was a little hungover but I once fell asleep on the Spanish Steps) and I would therefore be almost completely indifferent to the bunk orientation.

DH (who is more of a diva about such things) also says he would prefer his bunk to be in the direction of travel. I do think it's actually only the fact he's been asked has raised the issue as usually he would just accept bunks the way they are Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/04/2022 22:12

Champagne DH has been watching YT videos about passenger trains around the world and we discussed it at length - including the discomfort he would suffer if a train would stop in a curve with him sleeping in it. Grin Something about his neck Hmm

If you all were a list of Simenons Maigret novels in order of publication where would you be?

halfpasteleven · 09/04/2022 22:20

Your dog looks so happy Champagne, I think I'd find it easy to forgive him a roll in the mud!
From that angle he also doesn't look too svelte...

In bed with a hot water bottle for cramps, backache and headache.. such a lovely time of the month not

MissConductUS · 09/04/2022 22:32

Champagne, your dog is beyond adorable. Smile

Prok, I believe that on American Amtack sleeper cars, the beds are against the rear wall, not in the direction of travel. I found a picture of one online. I am not familiar with the Maigret novels, but Mr Google tells me that there are over 500 of them.

DS is on his way from Boston to Baltimore, by plane, for his uni club trip. DH was putting the lawnmower into the back of the Forester this morning to take it to the shop for service when a hail storm moved through. It's been raining on and off all day, so we may not be able to do burgers on the grill. Good lord we've had a lot of rain in the last few weeks. At least the reservoirs are full. If we can't cook out we'll have to get a takeaway.

I did some shopping this morning at Trader Joe's (an amazing store) and the warehouse club. Petrol prices have come down a bit here

halfpasteleven I hope that you feel better soon. He's a really cute dog Champagneforeveryone. Did you cook or get a takeaway in the end Miss? Hope that DD is enjoying her stay Silkie.

DH, DS and I are just setting off to vote. Doing our bit to keep the extremes at bay...

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/04/2022 08:54

Miss Simenon was a prolific writer but not all of his books feature Jules Maigret (English). I made a new list crossing out every book I already have. Still no idea where the old one got to.
Looks like rain again - much needed - but keeping me indoors.
DH still has not talked to DS.

How dare you, it's the camera angle!!! Or his glands. Or something.... GrinGrinGrin

Yes I did Champagne. This is disturbing news. I think I have a copy still, as well as Thrasymachus we used for Greek and a copy of Noddy in Latin........

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/04/2022 12:06

Hailstorm.

I chopped up red peppers to snack on.

Oh, and tip of the day: If a cactus falls down do not attempt to catch it with your hand.

HelenaJustina · 10/04/2022 12:29

Ouch prok! So easy to do though, it’s hard to fight the reflex and let something fall!

Chilled day chez Helena today, DH needs to do some gardening and I need to do some sitting with a cup of tea and a good book!
