It would be in October, myself, DH and DS 13. We absolutely loved Barcelona but want to go somewhere different. Any ideas?

Vienna? Prague? Budapest? We are off tomorrow to visit all three 😀

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 21/03/2022 12:19

My favourites:

Seville
Venice
Amsterdam
so far.....
I have been to Barcelona twice. I liked it but not so exciting second time and overall I much preferred Seville, which was a delight.

Berlin, went with DH but I think there's loads to do for a teenager - especially if any interest in history.

Amsterdam was good fun.

Spudina · 21/03/2022 12:22

Rome
Prague

Vienna is fabulous - first place we’ve ever been & all wanted to move there!

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 21/03/2022 12:24

Rome or Berlin

maxelly · 21/03/2022 12:27

What did you like the most about Barcelona? Did you specifically want hot and sunny or would somewhere more northern that probably will be a bit chilly in October be OK? Are you particularly into art? food? Do you want a sandy beach or water-sport activities available?

Some of my favourite European cities are Vienna, Budapest, Copenhagen and Dubrovnik, all have a nice range of different activities, art/culture, museums, tours, good walks etc but they're quite different. Copenhagen will be quite cold and possibly rainy by October but the winter gardens may be open which your son might like? It's very expensive though. Dubrovnik has all the Game of Thrones sites to see (it's where they filmed all the Kings Landing scenes) and you can also kayak or take a small boat trip out to the nearby islands which again might be fun for a teenager, and the weather will probably still be quite warm in October. But the art/culture scene there is not as big as in Barcelona although there are some nice smaller galleries and museums...

Great thread OP - was going to ask the same. We have a 14 year old dd.
Can I ask which travel companies are good to book with please? Not been abroad for a while & out of touch!

midsomermurderess · 21/03/2022 13:23

I have very much liked Lyon and Helsinki. But I don't know of October would be the best time to visit. Could be lovely in Autumn.

Roominmyhouse · 21/03/2022 13:28

Valencia was lovely when I went last November. It has loads to see and do and you can get the tram out to the beach.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 21/03/2022 13:34

We and teens all loved Krakow and Amsterdam.

Fatgalslim · 21/03/2022 13:43

My faves are Bruges, Krakow and Palma

Rshard · 21/03/2022 13:59

We’re off to Berlin in May with dd16. Amsterdam and Copenhagen is also on our list.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 21/03/2022 14:07

Rome. Beautiful delicious Rome! Take comfy shoes and stretchy trousers and marvel at the beauty of it while shoving astronomical amounts of supplì and gelato into your mouth.

AllTheBooks · 21/03/2022 19:59

This is great timing, we're off to Budapest in a few weeks with 10 &12 year olds; any top tips please?

Roses1221 · 21/03/2022 20:01

Lisbon! Massively overlooked, IMHO

Bionicname · 21/03/2022 20:09

I second Lisbon, Vienna, Rome. Would add Munich

Madmog · 21/03/2022 20:32

I've visited Berlin, Budapest, Paris and Ljubljana.

Order of preference for revisiting -

Budapest (lots of lovely architecture, eating out, shopping, spas, jewish quarter and you can visit Buda and Pest offering different experiences, beautiful near river at night with everything lit up)

Ljublijana (lots to see in a smaller area)

Berlin (Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag Building a must - book in advance. We stayed north of river - Hachescher Markt and that was perfect for us.

Paris has a lot to offer, but I'd rather try somewhere new.

Our 20 year old DD is presently living in Germany. She's visited a few European cities - Budapest, Amsterdam, Paris, Nice, Monaco Munich, Hamburg, but says Berlin is her favourite.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 21/03/2022 20:39

Iceland? Not a city I know.
Amsterdam or Lisbon otherwise.

Frenziedandfurious · 21/03/2022 20:40

I've been to loads of European cities, my favourites are probably Palma and Barcelona. However Munich and Copenhagen were lovely too and Amsterdam is always fun, been loads of times. La Rochelle in France is gorgeous as is Toulouse and Carcassonne but probably a bit limited with things to do for a whole weekend. Valencia a good alternative to Barcelona, feels less touristy.
I wasn't that enamoured with Madrid and have only really hated Monte Carlo what a weird oppressive ugly place.
I enjoyed Milan as well and that can get some bad press but I thought it was fascinating.
Palma capital of Mallorca is the loveliest though, with an amazing beach, we went in October and the weather was perfect.

I absolutely love Munich. Would go back there in a heartbeat.
caulkheaded · 21/03/2022 20:45

Palma. I also loved Bratislava and all of Corfu but I’d return to palma any day.

dementedma · 21/03/2022 20:52

Good to see Berlin mentioned. We're off there on April 1st.
Krakow is a favourite with us.
