It would be in October, myself, DH and DS 13. We absolutely loved Barcelona but want to go somewhere different. Any ideas?

Naples. My absolute favourite city. So much to see. So much life.

bert3400 · 21/03/2022 20:55

For October I would head as south as possible, to guarantee some good weather. Rome is amazing, Seville is also spectacular, Porto is meant to be another good bet, or my personal favourite Valencia

Another vote for Lisbon! Will be lovely at that time of year.

Also love Florence and Budapest.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 21/03/2022 21:06

We have done both Budapest and Rome in October.
Both lovey.

Naples can very Marmite. We went and absolutely hated it.

I second many of the places already mentioned here, but especially Ljubljana. Slovenia is a fantastic country - so much crammed into a small place, with loads really accessible. E.g. Lake Bled is around an hour, 90 mins from Ljubljana on a coach ride.

With your ds I would suggest Berlin, very cool, lots to see and do and lots of interesting history. Also less expensive than a lot of other European cities. We went in October about 5 years ago and the autumn colours were beautiful. My DC’s were 11 and 14 at the time and still say it was their favourite city.

namechanged221 · 21/03/2022 22:55

Budapest

AnnaSW1 · 21/03/2022 23:05

Rome! I love Rome

SpaceyCake · 21/03/2022 23:16

I have always liked Tallinn, Krakow and Budapest. Also like Helsinki and Stockholm but wouldn't recommend them in October as it might be quite cold and dark.

doglikescheeseontoast · 21/03/2022 23:23

Prague, Krakow, Amsterdam or Copenhagen.

I cannot begin to describe how much I disliked Rome, but we are all different.

TravellingSpoon · 22/03/2022 06:59

Krakow or Berlin have been our favourites. DD also really liked Amsterdam as she loved all the cycling.

Lunaballoon · 22/03/2022 07:07

Lisbon, Porto, Nice, Bordeaux.

We’ve had early October breaks in all of these and loved them and the surrounding areas.

Tillsforthrills · 22/03/2022 07:12

What’s Seville like end of October?

Sooverthemill · 22/03/2022 07:16

Lisbon, Madrid, palma, Paris, Bologna, Athens, sienna, Florence, Lille, Bruges, Brussels,

rubyslippers · 22/03/2022 07:17

Bruge is absolutely lovely
Lots to do - we did a Segway tour with our teens, walking, boats, eating !
Ideal in a weekend
Lisbon is also very nice

GoLightly282 · 22/03/2022 11:55

Dinan and Colmar in France also beautiful but again maybe too small for a whole weekends activities

whenwilliwillibefamous · 22/03/2022 13:52

Antwerp, loads to see and do. Utrecht also.
Will second Rome, Ljubljana.
Córdoba if you want sun.

HardyBuckette · 22/03/2022 15:42

Valletta

Figgyroller · 22/03/2022 15:50

I've done Berlin with a 13yr old in October HT and it was wonderful (weather and such interesting things to do. The immersion in history is just fantastic). Also did Iceland end of Oct and again had gorgeous weather, but I suspect that was a fluke! Good time of year to see the Northern Lights though. Oh, and I advise doing bike tours (Fat Boy in berlin is the best!), as great way to see the city's highlights and figure out what bits you like the look of to explore further.

Starisnotanumber · 22/03/2022 16:43

First thing to check is what is available from local airport if you are only going for a short break check on skyscanner .
You don't want to be travelling more than necessary to airport that may knock some ideas on the head.

balalake · 22/03/2022 16:46

Ghent, they have an interesting film festival in October as well.

CottonSock · 22/03/2022 16:47

Lisbon is fantastic

maddy68 · 22/03/2022 16:51
