My dog went for

My garden strimmer today. Hes not the brightest dog in the world to attack a moving spinning blade.
Lawnmower? No that was acceptable but the strimmer was just a step too far.

Btw hes a reactive rescue and reacts to the oddest things. We are still finding these out.

The list is currently the following

Dogs
Cats
Horses/sheep/ any four legged animal
Drains
The crossing lights at the top of my road (but only those ones no others)
Hats
My dressing gown
Inflatable costumes
Jeremy Clarkson

And now the strimmer

Does anyone elses dog have weird dislikes?

One of mine is scared of wooly hats. You can wait any other type of hat. Not a wooly hat though.

She also doesn't like it if you fold the throws in a certain way 🙄

alrightfella · 21/03/2022 17:22

Horses on the tv (but not ones we see in real life 🤷🏼‍♀️)
Maps on the tv in travel type programmes
Black labradors - no bad experiences with any just a dislike of them, and is not keen on black dogs at all really.
Carrier bags

Highlandrainbows · 21/03/2022 17:32

Ddog hates horses which isn't useful given we live on a farm next to a horses field. She used to love them but they didn't give her attention so now she hates them. She also hates bigger dogs coming up to her when they're off the lead and she isn't (she's a skinny 11kg collie mix). And she also hates when she is sitting on a sofa and someone sits next to her - she gets told off for that though, she has a perfectly comfy bed she can use if she wants space and has no business bossing humans around.

Other ddog hates new cars being parked in our/the neighbour's drive. She is also terrified of people which probably has something to do with that.

My dog’s a black Labrador, he gets hated on all the time by other dogs poor thing! Apparently black dogs are harder for other dogs to see/ read their faces.

I forgot his biggest fear: dogs in cones 😂

BlackandJello · 21/03/2022 19:00

My dog is also racist. It's hugely embarrassing actually, not sure what I can do?!

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 21/03/2022 19:01

Sandbags
Temporary traffic lights (but not permanent ones)
Open umbrellas on the ground
Empty plastic bags

DDog cannot cope with men on bikes wearing hi-vis and helmets. Which can be rather awkward. Also we have the nicest Hermes delivery man, who always gives her a biscuit as a reward for shouting at him.

Nevercloser · 21/03/2022 20:37

@Bideshi

No she doesn’t need to be muzzled. She was in our own rolling acres. She only leaves her own territory to go out into the hills. Not an urban dog. And she interacts perfectly politely with other dogs- just doesn’t recognise brachycephalic breeds. Now lighten up.,
Dreadful attitude. We have ‘rolling acres’ and would be horrified if any of our dogs attacked a small ‘pathetic freaky apology of a dog’ Shame on you.
StScholastica · 21/03/2022 20:44

Our rescue hates us playing guitars, brass instruments (can't blame him thereBlush) and harp. He doesn't mind the piano, flute or drum kit.
If anyone sings he has to howl along, which is hilarious if he meets a busker.
Also dislikes men in flat caps and any loud bang.

@Etinoxaurus

Lovely lovely thread. we lost our lovely girl yesterday. She was 16 and pts at home so as good as could be but just reading about these silly lovely dogs is making me happy cry for you all.

What a fantastic age! She was clearly very loved and looked after.

JungleBungles · 21/03/2022 22:12

My boy hates clowns 🤡
Serious full on growling & would probably attack one he’s never really been near a clown up close

Halloweenadoodle · 22/03/2022 13:52

Ohh id forgotten about the giant santas.

Yes that was fun at Christmas. We had to stop and check every santa to see if it was acceptable to him. If it wasnt i had to avoid that house or cross the road as he would get all upset over it.

Its nice to hear other stories of other pups and their random dislikes.

To be fair, I'd cheerfully lamp Jeremy Clarkson, given half a chance. I'm with the dog on that one! Grin

Sadly my dog was attacked by a staffie when he was tiny (no hate to staffies as a breed, I love them! This one went for my pup because its owner was petting him and it got jealous) and since then he has never been good with other dogs when we're out on a walk, even 8 years later. He liked playing one-on-one with DH's uncle's dog but sadly he passed away. However, on a more lighthearted note:

He absolutely hates when DH or I sing. He glares and growls until it stops - zero appreciation for the arts, that one.

DH is a postie and the dog takes exception to imposters, i.e. literally anyone else in a Royal Mail uniform.

He once went fucking nuts walking past a company van with a big photo of a man on the side Confused

He's scared of the broom. If his toy lands too close to it, he cries pitifully until I go and get it for him.

He also thinks all parcels are for him. He is only 7kg but no matter the size, he will grab the parcel and drag it to his bed, then try to open it. Taking it away from him is unacceptable. Tidying up the bits of packaging he spits out is also unacceptable - they all belong to him.

LadyCatStark · 22/03/2022 17:32

Ooh I forgot another one that he’s scared of that I was reminded of on our evening walk: people who are out walking without a dog. There’s definitely something suspicious about people who don’t have dogs 😂.

Babyroobs · 22/03/2022 18:36

My naughty dog in a split second today went under a toddlers pushchair and pulled out a packet of bread and ate the last crust. I was mortified, apologized numerous times to the mum who was fine. Toddler thankfully thought it was funny. Ducks and geese looking put out as our dogs greedily shared their prize.

Leonberger · 22/03/2022 19:42

One of mine loves everything in the world except cockerpoos.

It’s great when every second dog is some sort of doodle Grin

That made me laugh and I have a cockerpoo! Do you have a Leonberger?! Gorgeous.
Leonberger · 22/03/2022 20:07

@EmergencyPoncho I do! Although it was my German shepherd who started the vendetta against anything curly haired. I have no idea what it’s all about either. The Leo has no idea why he is throwing himself around but does it anyway Grin

EmergencyPoncho · 22/03/2022 20:24

Leonberger well two gorgeous pooches there. My cockerpoo is scared of GSDs, I suspect it's because she knows they know she isn't quite such a noble hound 😉.

liquidrevolution · 22/03/2022 20:35

All men apart from those with black skin. Shes fine with all females though. Our last collie barked at anyone without white skin so at least this one is less embarrassing.

Im assuming theres some really weird logic behind it. Collies can be really highly strung Hmm Confused

HotnSunnyRainbowRoses · 22/03/2022 20:51

I’m just coming on to say I’m appalled at @Bideshi comments.
Each new one seems worse than the one before.

Most people would assume that a pet dog allowed to roam freely on land where dogs are allowed that is open to the public is going to be friendly with other dogs.
I certainly would, although I don’t actually allow either of my dogs to interact with strange dogs ever (Bideshi is a fantastic shining example of one of the reasons why!) but I would definitely 100% assume the loose dog was dog sociable.

As a collie owner myself they already have a pretty shitty reputation already as pets, neurotic, high strung, dog aggressive etc.
Thanks for adding to it 👍

Your dog went so far as to actually bite and cause an injury to this ladies dog, no matter how minor it’s still an escalation on the growling it did prior to the other two dogs and it’s still an injury, that isn’t something to be proud of at all.
In fact, given that aggression pretty much always escalates and according to you the previous two times she just growled I’d be really quite worried actually.
But not you.
Cause obviously they deserve it being freakishly flat faced and all and hey, she’s only tiny! Barely the size of a Fox Hmm

I hope your business tanks.
I’d be fucking livid if I was that lady.

PugInTheHouse · 22/03/2022 22:01

I have a pug and have only ever met one dog that doesn't like him but it was on a yellow/nervous harness and was more scared than disliked. He is taken out by the trainer to do buddy walks with her clients and has always got on with all of them. He is really good at waiting before going over to other dogs also and we always check it's OK of course.

He is scared of the hoover mainly, he doesn't like scooters or bikes and reacts to them but i feel like it is the fact they stealthy comr from behind him.

He doesn't seem scared of anything else though. He will bark at the TV at any animals, babies crying or people shouting but it doesn't seem like he's scared, more like he wants them to know he's there!

WhiskeyMakesMeFrisky · 22/03/2022 22:03

Jeremy Clarkson! Oh I'm dying 🤣🤣🤣
