Help us find a movie before so lose the will to live...

Looking for a movie for us all to watch...

DD 15 wants something Utopian or space themed, disaster/survival based

DD 14 has stuck on spider man and not budging but loves movie with strong political/social message, the help, hidden figures, Philadelphia, ETC

DD 10 is not particularly movies fussed, I’d saying no to everything but can be bribed with chocolate..

I’ve just recently watched Captain Phillips and absolutely nothing is coming close but fancy an edge of your seat movie..

Help (oh and no cartoons/animated)

An old one.. Lost in Space? The Matt le Blanc area one that is.

Thrilling, set in space, has a bit of a political dilemma near the end

What about that Matt Damon one… Elysium Is it? Another good sci-fi is the island - definitely thought provoking!

ClariceQuiff · 20/03/2022 18:27

'The Humanity Bureau' with Nicolas Cage fits something Utopian or space themed, disaster/survival based and strong political/social message. Dystopian rather than Utopian, I should clarify.

It's rated 15 though so might not suit your youngest. It has a few violent fighting/shooting scenes IIRC.

Another good sci-fi is the island - definitely thought provoking!

And on a similar theme, 'Never Let Me Go'.

TheGirlWhoLived · 20/03/2022 18:29

Obviously mine are super old Grin that was the last time I was able to watch films… awful children

UnbeatenMum · 20/03/2022 18:29

The Martian?

TheGirlWhoLived · 20/03/2022 18:30

I’m assuming you’ve done the hunger games, very survival themed!

StrawberryPot · 20/03/2022 18:31

Don't Look Up? (Was a hit with whole family at Xmas - though dcs are a bit older, in 20s)

A Quiet Place? (Both movies are good)

lightand · 20/03/2022 18:31

Apollo 13, or is it 11?

miltonj · 20/03/2022 18:33

Don't look up?

Survival based (kind of) and political. Funny and sad at the same time.

shabbalabba · 20/03/2022 18:34

The Adam project

Adam Project on Netflix

DingDongtheWitchisDrunk · 20/03/2022 18:36

The Adam project (but not if they've lost their father)

LizzieMacQueen · 20/03/2022 18:39

You might like a george clooney film I watched recently - the midnight sky.

Can't remember what streaming service it was on though.

We just started watching reminiscence with Hugh jackman which is very good so far

Topbird29 · 20/03/2022 18:45

The martian is very good, but a bit sweary in parts. Not surprisingly if stuck on Mars! Rogue one and solo are both good stand alone films from star wars.

NeedleNoodle3 · 20/03/2022 18:48

I was going to say The Martian.

Topbird29 · 20/03/2022 18:49

District 9 is good.

NeedleNoodle3 · 20/03/2022 18:49

I have loads of suggestions for you DD14 as it sounds as if we like similar films.

Topbird29 · 20/03/2022 18:50

Or maybe the matrix

Jobhelpplease · 20/03/2022 18:58

So the problem with a space obsessed child is we have seen all the related movies...

I’m also a bit wary of sex scenes with the girls and quite a few of these have that in if (don’t look up etc)

Think we are leaning towards a thriller!
