Looking for a movie for us all to watch...

DD 15 wants something Utopian or space themed, disaster/survival based

DD 14 has stuck on spider man and not budging but loves movie with strong political/social message, the help, hidden figures, Philadelphia, ETC

DD 10 is not particularly movies fussed, I’d saying no to everything but can be bribed with chocolate..

I’ve just recently watched Captain Phillips and absolutely nothing is coming close but fancy an edge of your seat movie..

Help (oh and no cartoons/animated)

Thriller? Can't go wrong with Mission Impossible.

TheGirlWhoLived · 20/03/2022 19:10

What about minority report?

NeedleNoodle3 · 20/03/2022 19:10

Zathura: A Space Adventure.

Better than it might sound.

Free Guy is pretty good. Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer with Dwayne Johnson (in a blink and you!'ll miss it cameo : had to google it to find him) or the other new one is The Adam Project with Ryan Reynolds and Mark Ruffalo.

NeedleNoodle3 · 20/03/2022 19:16

They may like Ready Player One.

WorkingOnMyNightCheese · 20/03/2022 19:16

Love and Monsters on Netflix.

ShadowPuppets · 20/03/2022 19:19

Independence Day?

tpmumtobe · 20/03/2022 19:20

Another vote for The Martian, brilliant movie!

WorkingOnMyNightCheese · 20/03/2022 19:21

@WorkingOnMyNightCheese

Love and Monsters on Netflix.
Posted too soon. I meant to say it's a lot of fun, post-apocalypse (sort of), likeable teen leads, funny-scary rather than scary-scary, has the same sort of vibe as the Tom Holland Spiderman films.
DelorisVC · 20/03/2022 19:21

Ready player one and free guy are both good.
Not sci fi at all but peanut butter Falcon is brilliant and may please ds2.

Pbbananabagel · 20/03/2022 19:21

Maze Runner OR Divergent both fit the dystopian bill and suitable for teens

DelorisVC · 20/03/2022 19:21

Oh and Shazam is great if you haven’t seen it.

Roseglen84 · 20/03/2022 19:21

What about the original Alien from 1979, on Disneyplus.

It's a bit slow to start, but builds the suspense brilliantly, and has a great female lead. Might be a bit scary in parts for the 10 yr old.

NeedleNoodle3 · 20/03/2022 19:21

Peanut Butter Falcon is fab.

BookwormButNoTime · 20/03/2022 19:22

The Day After Tomorrow is my “go to” movie for those ages and I haven’t yet had a child who didn’t enjoy it (I work with teenagers in a residential setting)

NeedleNoodle3 · 20/03/2022 19:23

DD15 may like The OA series (it’s not a film).

suckingonchillidogs · 20/03/2022 19:25

Terminator 2! Never ever get tired of that one

MintyGreenDream · 20/03/2022 19:28

i don't spend much time watching films, no netflix or anything, just a freeview telly... but watched The Deer Hunter a while ago, which was good. and also another war one, Full Metal Jacket.

Sausagerollfiend · 20/03/2022 19:52

Passengers is really good, really makes you think about what you'd do in their situation, stuck in space.

They are good, but totally unsuitable for OP's children.

An old one we lived with teens - Space Camp - teens US summer camp at NASA accidentally launched into orbit. Maybe too young for them, but I still enjoy Flight of the Navigator ( young boy kidnapped by alien craft visiting Earth). Left field one not sci-fi- Ghandi. Or what about old fashioned disaster type movie - the Towering Inferno ( good if you want to make them fire safety conscious Smile. Or the Satan Bug. Very topical!
