Where would you go?

I promised DH a child-free weekend away for his 30th birthday and I don’t know where to go. Any suggestions?

It’ll be the first May bank holiday weekend if that makes a difference.

Depends on your interests. Do you like beaches or countryside, city or town?

Glenthebattleostrich · 17/03/2022 19:23

Newcastle upon Tyne. Near the coast if the weather is good, brilliant bars, restaurants, museums and galleries. Really good public transport too. Oh and loads of lovely friendly Geordies

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 17/03/2022 19:23

Open to anything really. Just want a break.

York is great

ISeeTheLight · 17/03/2022 19:26

The Cotswolds in a lovely spa hotel.

Ellopet · 17/03/2022 19:26

I was also going to suggest Newcastle! Great city, lots of great bars and restaurants , museums, walks. Really enjoyed it. Obvious suggestion is London but it's so massive wouldn't be so relaxing.

Or smaller towns say York? You want north or south, how far prepared to travel and where are you based?

QuebecBagnet · 17/03/2022 19:26

Edinburgh or Cambridge

lancslass17 · 17/03/2022 19:27

I would say York or lakes depending on where you are based

Rachel4545 · 17/03/2022 19:27

York or Edinburgh

Divebar2021 · 17/03/2022 19:27

What sort of place do you live in now ?

AwayInMyMind · 17/03/2022 19:27

Edinburgh or possibly Bath.

MissAmbrosia · 17/03/2022 19:29

Where are you based? Budget?

HerLadySheep · 17/03/2022 19:30

We loved Liverpool, loads to do, a really interesting City if you fancy a city break

DoWhatYouLike · 17/03/2022 19:31

York, Chester, Harrogate, Leeds, Buxton and Edinburgh are all good. You haven't said where you're based, so it's difficult for people to suggest places without knowing.

Starbonnet123 · 17/03/2022 19:33

Chester is a great place to stay , lots of places to visit , shopping , with great food and drink .
We stayed at the Queen at Chester which is just near the station and a 15 minute walk into the city .
York is great too , again lots to see and do , we always stay at the premier inn at micklegate which is right in the centre of the city , book a meal at Bills too , great atmosphere and lovely food .

Fireleap · 17/03/2022 19:34

Liverpool is great fun

We live in a large town in the South West. Very close to the Cotswolds.

Just back from a fab weekend in Bath. From Edinburgh which is great, also been to York and Newcastle with DH, would recommend these too.

Peachy7 · 17/03/2022 19:36

Bath is beautiful, but I feel like you may be pretty close to it anyway! Devon or Cornwall if you're South West already, depends what you want from a weekend away I guess.

We met near Chester so that might be quite nice.

We are near Bath but very rarely go there actually. Can’t actually remember the last time I went.

Liverpool or Edinburgh

Divebar2021 · 17/03/2022 19:38

I went to Liverpool with a friend last year and really enjoyed myself. It really wasn’t somewhere I would have thought about going to ( probably would have chosen Harrogate or Edinburgh) but It was a lot of fun. Very compact and walkable.
