How often do you wash your car

Mine was brand new on 1 July and it's just occurred to me I've never washed it Grin

I don't think it looks that bad and every time I think about doing it the weather forecast is such that it seem pointless.

Is 9 months an exceptionally long time to go without washing your car?

It doesn't do a lot of miles but it is used daily and lives outdoors.

Every 2-3 weeks inside and out.

Do the people who don’t wash/get theirs washed just not drive far?

Mines pretty grim after a couple of weeks - the inside gets dirty as well with dust, hair, random bits - I can only imagine how gross it would be after a year or so.

SickAndTiredAgain · 16/03/2022 19:56

@Infinitemoon

I am amazed at you all. I think the paintwork get damaged quite quickly if tree sap, bird poo gets on it. I try to wash the car every week or two but sometimes it ends up being every month if I'm busy. The inside is another story! Grin
Is this really that much of a problem? Maybe if you have to park it under a tree but if not? My car is only 3 years old but my parents have always kept their cars for years and years and never washed them and the paint is always fine.

I rely on the rain to wash mine.

A few times per year. I keep mine neat and tidy.

DoWhatYouLike · 16/03/2022 20:00

Hardly ever. 3 or 4 times a year, probably. I hoover it about once a month

Theunamedcat · 16/03/2022 20:02

Umm once in two years you can see the number plates really clearly so the police dont have an issue the anpr in tescos can't read it though I'm not sure if it's dust or a dodgy camera

deadlanguage · 16/03/2022 20:07

I don’t drive but DP’s (white) car has been washed approximately once in the past 4 years! He’s promised to take me through the car wash as I’ve never been in one before

AlwaysLatte · 16/03/2022 20:09

Once a week - I just put it through the ultra wax option in the car wash, which helps repel the dirt in between.

AlwaysLatte · 16/03/2022 20:09

Amazed that others leave it weeks. Does it not feel horrible when you touch the door handles and boot??

bellsbuss · 16/03/2022 20:10

Once every 4-6 weeks inside and out by a local man who will do it on your driveway. I use wet wipes in between to wipe the seats down and the backs of the front seats as my children seem to attract dirt like magnets. DH gets a bit huffy if he has to get in a dirty car so before the weekend I quickly fish out the dropped raisins, breadsticks, sweet wrappers , apple cores and God knows what else Blush the no food rule lasts all of 5 minutes with me.

DuesToTheDirt · 16/03/2022 20:29

About once a year. I have a muddy hobby, so it gets quite dirty, but then why clean it? It's just muddy again the next day!

Not that I’ve ever noticed, in my 25 years of driving 🤷🏻‍♀️
catwomando · 16/03/2022 20:35

I did mine recently after nearly 4 years. It had moss growing on it 😬 . Was beautiful and clean but then a ton of Sandy rain just got dumped on her. I give up.

saleorbouy · 16/03/2022 20:39

The kids do them when they want some extra money when they're saving up for something, otherwise they get a jet wash before a service and the MOT test.

MrsGatsby99 · 16/03/2022 20:41

Once a month or once every two months through the car wash. Hardly ever do inside - maybe twice a year. That’s a bit grim when you think about it but just too many other things to do.

gamerchick · 16/03/2022 20:42

When the parameter beepers get stroppy.

user1487194234 · 16/03/2022 22:07

Never but DH does it every week

mistermagpie · 16/03/2022 22:09

I have had my car since 2017 and I've never washed it! It doesn't go anywhere muddy really and looks fine. It has never occurred to me to wash it...

yikesanotherbooboo · 16/03/2022 22:10

If it looks very dirty or I have noticed that the lights and windows are grubby. Approx every 6/8 weeks. I don't do the inside as often .

SirChenjins · 16/03/2022 22:13

Every time it rains

MindfulMarch · 16/03/2022 22:22

@JungleBungles

DH does it either every Sunday or if it’s raining at least once a fortnight 😂

He wouldn’t let anyone else do it…sad sod that he is!

I wouldn’t use one of those drive in place, which charge £20 for an inside and out (normally Eastern European) as the people are normally part of human trafficking

So, when is your husband free to do mine?

I don't have a husband & I have a disability & practical issues that make cleaning it at home pretty much impossible. I can't afford £100 clean, so I go to the 'hand wash'. If there was a better option, I'd take it.

@DetailMouse. To answer your question I never clean it. I don't really like using the hand wash places (partly because if the possible human rights issue, but also because they don't do the greatest job) but as I said above I can't do it myself. I can easily go a year between cleans - one of the roads I drive up & down twice a day is unmade and through a 'woods' - it gets FILTHY so I kind of resent getting it done, but I'm planning on getting it done once a month (£20). I've planned this before but didn't manage it though!

Northernsoullover · 16/03/2022 22:26

Mine gets done when it goes for a service or MOT. Occasionally if its bright and sunny I think I'll take it to the jet wash only to find that everyone else has the same idea so I give up.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 16/03/2022 22:27

Every time I use it, just like my bedding and towels.

Anything less is just revolting.

WaterBottle123 · 16/03/2022 22:30

Never. I have a life 😂

WaterBottle123 · 16/03/2022 22:31

@Muchtoomuchtodo

I wash my bedding and towels every time I breath near them.

You sound a bit grim, TBH.
