How often do you wash your car

Mine was brand new on 1 July and it's just occurred to me I've never washed it Grin

I don't think it looks that bad and every time I think about doing it the weather forecast is such that it seem pointless.

Is 9 months an exceptionally long time to go without washing your car?

It doesn't do a lot of miles but it is used daily and lives outdoors.

Once before we trade it in for a shiny new one

Xpologog · 16/03/2022 15:43

Frequently. Well, not by me personally but rain falls from the sky….. That’ll do, won’t it?

Pyewhacket · 16/03/2022 15:45

I drive a Land Rover so it gets washed twice a year, whether it needs it or not.

When it gets so filthy I'm ashamed or the number plate is so dirty it would get me a ticket. I drive on rural national speed limit roads daily so it's pretty bad after a month or so during the winter due to gritting, I wipe the numberplate as a bare minimum monthly and take it through the car wash when I think about it, maybe every 3-4 months (dsd who has ld's likes going through it). Vacuuming is less often.

AwayInMyMind · 16/03/2022 15:48

Two or three times a year.

moanyhole · 16/03/2022 15:50

Never, no point. I commute a lot and all it takes is to be behind a lorry to make it filthy again. I do hoover the inside when it gets bad, that's about it

Redcrayons · 16/03/2022 16:00

Put mine through the car wash last week, first time since the first lockdown when the DCs washed it for something to do.

I do hoover it out more regularly though.

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 16/03/2022 16:06

Every other month - and I have low mileage. I'm very proud of my lovely shiny red car (it marks my return to work after being a sahm and I saved hard to pay it off over three years). Apologies for the smug post Blush

emmathedilemma · 16/03/2022 16:16

I can't remember when it was last washed.......at least before Xmas. It's filthy at the moment after a trip down country lanes last weekend but hopefully the rain will wash the worst of it off!

GrumpyPanda · 16/03/2022 16:25

Very rarely for me. Really only at the end of a long snowy winter that's likely to have been rough on the undercarriage. Or on a holiday trip somewhere that got dust all over it. Otherwise, I tend to wait for the next good rain to wash it all off Smile

Rubybetsie · 16/03/2022 16:39

I wash it every week. I love my car and I like her looking shiny.

fairgame84 · 16/03/2022 16:41

I let the rain wash it.
Otherwise car wash maybe once per year.

CraftyGin · 16/03/2022 16:43

Once or twice a year. I get it done inside and out, especially if I have to transport other people.

I recognise I should get it done more often.

BiddyPop · 16/03/2022 16:53

I've given mine a lick and a spit maybe 3 or 4 times since Jan 2020 - usually with a mop during heavy rain or once a bucket of sudsy water and a sponge. DH put roofbars up that mean I can't go to drive in carwash, and won't take them down or tell me where the keys are (I generally need the roofbox once a year for Cub camp, maybe twice if we do holidays in this country). He keeps saying he will wash it properly himself but never gets the time.

I need to give it a really proper clean, get all the built up dust out where it has turned into mud in nooks and crannies, moss out from window sills, grime from carpets and seats etc.

TwoDaysOff · 16/03/2022 16:53

The rain washed it today Grin

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 16/03/2022 16:53

I hosed it down once and did the roof....some spritzy stuff for waterproofing the black. It's a drop top MX5. And another time I put a damp cloth on the bird shit....buggers were using it for target practise.

Had it four years I think.

I still have the other half of the cleaner somewhere. Hmm It doesn't leak though. Not via the roof anyways.

Hedgesgalore · 16/03/2022 17:02

Dh does ours every weekend.

If its raining he'll just wash the wheels and tyres Confused

Now and then he'll take it to the local car washers just so they can jetwash under the wheel arches properly.

He sits at a desk all week so he says doing the cars is his time outside. He enjoys looking after them. I say whatever makes you happy Wink

Scarecrowrowboat · 16/03/2022 17:04

It gets washed once a year when it goes for a service.

cloudyrain · 16/03/2022 17:06

I use a drive in place staffed by Eastern Europeans, as they have been the same people for about 4 years I hope they are not traffickers.

Anyway before Covid it was every 6-8 weeks for the outside and the inside done when needed. When I was using my car for business it was more like 2-4 weeks as I wanted to give a good impression
During Covid lockdowns it was just sat on the drive and washed by the rain, I dusted inside.
It was done 3 times last year and so far once this year, I will probably do it every 3-4 months as I am hardly using it.

DH does lots of miles still and won't let anyone wash his car (must be a male thing) it gets done monthly or more often if he can't see where he is going, the car is his pride and joy. My car is a tool I use when I can't walk.

bettertocryinamercedes · 16/03/2022 17:13

Mine gets a proper valet once a month as it's brand new and I want to keep it nice inside and out

In between times I take it to the hand car wash if it's muddy or really dusty.

I probably wouldn't do this if it wasn't such a nice car! In fact I hardly ever washed my previous cars but this one doesn't look great if it's filthy

IVFNewbie · 16/03/2022 17:14

Never washed mine. Was brand new last year in June?

EezyOozy · 16/03/2022 17:25

I get it valeted and washed about once a year! It's always filthy

ImInStealthMode · 16/03/2022 17:28

Once a year whether it needs it or not Wink

trevthecat · 16/03/2022 17:32

Around every 2 weeks. We live right on the coast and especially in winter, with the storms, it gets a greasy film over it. So after a storm I can't see out of the windows!

PlanetNormal · 16/03/2022 17:36

Never.

Unlike my neighbour, most of whose weekends are spent lovingly washing & polishing his car, my life is too short to wash cars. I bung the illegal immigrants a few quid to do it every couple of months.
