What do you class as an ideal inside temperature?

After the hideous price of heating oil we’ve completely cut down on the use of the heating.

I’m quite a cold person and am used to having it really warm so have lost all perception of reality!

What temperature do you class as comfortable in a room? At what point would you consider putting the heating on?

Currently sat in the 19 degrees living room and I’m cold!

Mine comes on if less than 20 but it is timed x 2 and only for about four hours a day in total. Otherwise have to layer up or move about or make hot water bottle if wfh.

StillUp · 10/03/2022 16:27

20 for us morning and evening, down to 16 during the day if we are in, off if we aren’t. Down to 10 at night. DH sometimes clicks it up to 21 but that 1 degree makes a massive difference to me and tips it into too hot. I’m quite a cold person and our house is drafty (we are working on it for next winter) but 24 would make me feel ill.

ChoiceMummy · 10/03/2022 16:33

Mine normally sits at 17 degrees when the timer is set to on.

However, we've had it sat at 15.5 as we have windows open due to covid and tbh, though it gets nippy at points, I don't feel that it's any nipper than when the temperature was dropping from 17 and kicking in.

When I normally turn it up, I only really ever turn up to a max of 19 anyway. Unless we have family coming who really feel the cold, as we're used to layers and blankets on sofa etc!

Isgooglebroken · 10/03/2022 16:34

We turn it down to 15 over night.

It’s currently set to 17 & it hasn’t yet clicked on. I’m a tad chilly and I have a long sleeved thermal top on under my jumper and woolly slipper socks on over my normal socks. If I was really cold I’d wrap myself in the throw that’s over the back of my cushion for when I’m really cold.

I would quite like it a bit warmer but we are already in the position of owing Octopus, even though they doubled our DD in October & we started off in credit of £140 Sad

Rosehugger · 10/03/2022 16:35

DH works in a separate room at home, thank goodness, as he had the window open all day even when it was in the low single figures for temperature. It feels bloody arctic when I go in there, I don't know how he does it.

LoveFall · 10/03/2022 16:38

19 to 20 in the evening when we watch TV. Much, much cooler overnight. I hate sleeping hot.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 10/03/2022 16:40

I prefer it warmer during the night and have it around 21 but only in the 2 bedrooms we currently have in use and 19 in the living room for our cat.
We have it anywhere between 15 and 20 during the day depending on what rooms are in use and what we're doing.

ifonly4 · 10/03/2022 16:43

Ours is set on 18.5c. Came on for an hour this morning and doubt it'll kick in again before timer goes off at 8pm.

nopuppiesallowed · 10/03/2022 16:46

18 during the day and 20 at night when we're sitting down unless we have lit the stove. It's off overnight. We live in a 1930s house with double glazing but when we had cavity wall insulation installed it was an absolute disaster because the cavities are narrow and there is rubble inside. It made the house damp and even colder so we had to have it removed. It's a difficult house to keep warm so our heating bills are already high!

Donut22 · 10/03/2022 16:48

I live in a flat and find it quite warm without heating. my room 🌡 Is 16.5 atm got the windows open too. Hardly ever put heating on.

DinosApple · 10/03/2022 16:49

Ours is set to 17 degrees. It's not warm enough for me to be comfortable unless I layer up. But layering is free so that's what happens.
Usually between 12-15 degrees without the heating. I hate being cold, my comfortable temperature is somewhere around 22 degrees. Our home is only that warm in the summer.

It's such a relatively new thing to have a comfortable temperature all through your home though. My parents had central heating installed after my brother was born but before I was born. I'm in my late 30s.

Calandor · 10/03/2022 16:50
  1. Any more and in sweaty. Colder than 16 and I feel a bit nippy
LaurieFairyCake · 10/03/2022 16:51

18/20

Any higher and I get hot flushes

Viviennemary · 10/03/2022 16:51

21 -22.5° during the day. Switch off at night.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 10/03/2022 16:52

We barely put our heating on-our house is always on the cool side.

I hate the feeling of over heated indoors and love a cold bedroom so windows open all year round.

So I am probably not the one to ask.

astoundedgoat · 10/03/2022 16:54

18 -19, closer to 20 in the evenings.

Completely off from 10pm to 7am though.

I'll be pushing that down to 17 during the day, 18 in the evenings next autumn. Luckily we're on a good tariff til May right now.

AuntFlorence · 10/03/2022 16:57

20.5, 20 I'm cold and 21 I'm too hot. It drives me nuts!
At night if it drops below about 17.5 it's too cold. Over 18.5 I'm uncomfortable

LaurieFairyCake · 10/03/2022 16:59

I've had my heating on once overnight this winter

This winter has been really mild in London - I think we've had 3 or 4 days of frost. My house has not dipped below 14 overnight.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 10/03/2022 17:00

honestly? 20.
but for the sake of the planet and my gas bill i try to keep the thermostat at 18 in the day, 19 in the evenings.

BooksAndHooks · 10/03/2022 17:02

Always used to have thermostat on 20 but would prefer 21. I’m always cold. Had to turn it down to 16/17 when prices went up, imagine we won’t be able to use it next winter.

MrsMariaReynolds · 10/03/2022 17:03

16-18 usually

TimBoothseyes · 10/03/2022 17:09

4am-6am - 19
2pm -9pm -between 19 and 23 depending how cold it is and if I have washing to dry (no room for a heated airer or tumble dryer, so radiators it is).
9pm -4 am - off.

garlicandsapphires · 10/03/2022 17:12

16-17 in the day. No idea at night.
