What do you class as an ideal inside temperature?

After the hideous price of heating oil we’ve completely cut down on the use of the heating.

I’m quite a cold person and am used to having it really warm so have lost all perception of reality!

What temperature do you class as comfortable in a room? At what point would you consider putting the heating on?

Currently sat in the 19 degrees living room and I’m cold!

18 degrees. Any more and I find it too hot.

Fernandina · 10/03/2022 15:10

19-21 during the day, a bit lower at night. It's currently 20 on the thermostat opposite where I'm sitting and I feel... tepid.

FleeceNavidadFromTheSheep · 10/03/2022 15:13

Thermostat is 16-17.
I'd rather wear more clothes or use a blanket than be too hot.
I do have a heated throw for working at home.

Kinsters · 10/03/2022 15:18

22°/23° at night a few degrees warmer during the day, maybe 25°/26°. I'm in a hot country though and that's cooling rather than heating. I don't often turn it on during the day and try and make do with fans but that's my ideal. I get cold when we come back to visit the UK!

gingerhills · 10/03/2022 15:19

19-20.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 10/03/2022 15:21

18-19. I try not to use ours during the day and it drops to 16-17 which is cold but above 19 I find oppressive

LosingTheWill2022 · 10/03/2022 15:22

I find 20° a comfortable room temperature

Andreax4 · 10/03/2022 15:23

22 in day, 18 overnight.

Duopingu · 10/03/2022 15:23

around 20 durimg the day but it goes off completely overnight. I kick it back on an hour before the kids get up. Am trying to switch it off more during day when it's just me or if I do put it on nudge it down a bit under 20.

waterlego · 10/03/2022 15:23

18-19 is about right for us. We only have the heating on for an hour or so in the morning and again in the evening, and the temp in house definitely drops below 18 at times. That’s when we put more clothes on or start doing physical jobs around the house to warm ourselves up!

IKnowYouDontTurnTheLightOn · 10/03/2022 15:24

18-20. I saw someone comment on SM yesterday that their usual temp at home is 24 degrees Shock.

waterlego · 10/03/2022 15:24

I’m surprised people have their heating on all night. Could understand it in the depths of winter during one of those very cold spells but now?

Chakraleaf · 10/03/2022 15:25

I'm letting it get down to 16-17 now :(

AlmostMaybe · 10/03/2022 15:26

Thermostat is set to 22/23 if we’re sitting. If I’m moving around cleaning or something like that, I’ll turn it down a bit. It’s set to 19 overnight.

Soozikinzii · 10/03/2022 15:27

I have it at 18 in the day and 10 at night which basically switches it off . If it's a bit cold I may turn it up temporarily but that's how the timer is set. I must admit I notice other people's houses are warmer but that's how I like it !'

NannyR · 10/03/2022 15:28

My flat is around 12 degrees most of the day and I heat it to 15/16 degrees in the evenings. I wear normal clothes and don't feel cold, but I know others would feel very cold at that temp and be wearing coats etc. However I get very uncomfortable in hot temperatures. People have different tolerances for hot and cold.
I would say that between 18-20 is a "normal" house temperature, I think that's what charities like age concern recommend.

Jonny1265 · 10/03/2022 15:29

18-19

merryhouse · 10/03/2022 15:30

We have the thermostat (in the hall) at 19, between 6am and 10pm - temperature drops a bit overnight but not masses.

We used to have it at 17, which I was fine with, but the place suffers from damp.

Mylittlepixie · 10/03/2022 15:33

22/23. Anything lower and im cold 🥶

Redeyed · 10/03/2022 15:33

Ours is set at 17, which is fine, we wear jumpers etc if needed. Overnight we drop it to 12.

SilverHairedCat · 10/03/2022 15:34

I'm sitting here at 15c and finding it a bit cool. We never have the thermostat above 17.5c - it makes the rooms so unpleasant. I HATE going to my DM's house where she won't let it go below 24c - it literally makes me ill, causes migraines etc and it's absolutely airless. When she comes here, it creates arguments because she won't accept we can't live like that.

MonkeyPuddle · 10/03/2022 15:38

I have mine set to 15 and off completely overnight. I run quite warm I think though, we didn’t have the heating on much when I was small so I think it’s that, I’m just very used to it being that sort of temp. If it gets to above 18 inside then I start to feel all hot and bothered.

Bramshott · 10/03/2022 15:39

17 or 18 if I'm moving around, but 19 ideally if I'm sitting still at the computer. I do have a big fleecy blanket I can wrap around myself at my desk though which makes even 18 feel quite pleasant.

MaryAndHerNet · 10/03/2022 15:40

Haven't had my heating on.
I've been to some people's houses and it's so hot they're in t-shirts in winter. Screw that. I prefer it being cold and putting a jumper on.

mammajustkilledagnat · 10/03/2022 15:42

About 17/18 degrees. The house warms up in the daytime with the sunshine most days, so I notice if it starts to drop any lower. Rather wear a jumper and my slippers than wack it up. When the elderly relatives are here it is set much higher and I feel quite ill sometimes from it.
