What do you class as an ideal inside temperature?

After the hideous price of heating oil we’ve completely cut down on the use of the heating.

I’m quite a cold person and am used to having it really warm so have lost all perception of reality!

What temperature do you class as comfortable in a room? At what point would you consider putting the heating on?

Currently sat in the 19 degrees living room and I’m cold!

21C when I'm sitting down working, and that's with a jumper on, socks, often with a warm oversized hoodie also. If I'm pottering about round the house then cooler than that is fine and probably more like

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 10/03/2022 15:48

18 during the day, sometimes put it to 19 if very cold. We have a nest thermostat that switches to away once we leave the house so only heats when we are here, goes off at 9.30 once we go to bed and has the minimum thing set on it to stop pipes freezing etc

FindingMeno · 10/03/2022 15:50

18 if busy, 20 if sat down

Hmum0fthree · 10/03/2022 15:52

19-20 max unless its freezing outside then 21 anything over that drys the air out!

Mol1628 · 10/03/2022 15:53

19 is most comfortable. But I have it set to 16 now to save money.

KavvLar · 10/03/2022 15:53

Mine is set to come on if it drops below 18 during the day, and 15 at night.

8thplace · 10/03/2022 16:01

I don't use a timer... If its cold and we are home I wack thermostat up to 15 for an hour or two only. Always off overnight. Never comes on in the morning on its own. Modern house and well insulated and warms up with sunlight during day... On sunny days anyway! We use oil... About 750-1000lts per year... For heating and water. 5 bed house.

bigbluebus · 10/03/2022 16:02

20°c first thing and from around 5pm. At the moment during the day it's on 16°c but in the colder months it will be on 18°c. It goes off completely at 10.00pm and comes on at 6.30am.

Gunpowder · 10/03/2022 16:04

We do 15 at night and between 15 and 20 in the day depending on how the house feels. I’m happiest when it’s about 18.

emmathedilemma · 10/03/2022 16:06

my thermostat is set to 20 degrees morning and evening. During the day it really depends what I'm doing. Sitting down or working from home and I find anything below 18 is too cold. It's currently just above 18 and i've got a blanket over my legs! But if i was moving around and doing housework etc it would be more than warm enough.

Chakraleaf · 10/03/2022 16:07

No one is here in the day so I let it drop right down now.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/03/2022 16:07

7am- 10am and 4pm - 10.30pm 20 degrees. We boost it during the day if we get chilly. Off completely at night.

Troublesometooth · 10/03/2022 16:07

Our thermostat is so old the numbers have rubbed off so I have never known what temperature it’s set too.

I tend to just put it on if I feel cold and turn it till it clicks.

I’ve bought a digital room thermometer which says it’s 19.6 degrees in the lounge. I had the heating on from 7-8 this morning and will see if we can manage without using it again today.

I prefer to be a bit chilly and use a heated throw and jumpers than too hot.

Duracellbunnywannabe · 10/03/2022 16:08

19

BeyondMyWits · 10/03/2022 16:11

20 if I'm just sitting down. 18 if I'm doing housework or in bed. (Does not click in often at 18, the house is well insulated)

GlitteryGreen · 10/03/2022 16:12

18-19 I think, but this is with me wearing tracksuit bottoms, t-shirt, jumper, socks and slippers...my preferred clothes for home!

It would need to be 20/21 for me to be in a t-shirt, but that only ever happens in the summer, heating that high would be too much for me.

nearlyspringyay · 10/03/2022 16:14

No idea, we don't have a thermostat. We are SE and heating has been off since last night as it was too stuffy.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 10/03/2022 16:15

17-18’

It is turned off at night.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 10/03/2022 16:15

17.5 in the day. Off at night.

Goblinwife · 10/03/2022 16:16

18 is ideal and 16-17 is fine with a jumper. Over 18 is too hot if you're doing stuff and moving around. We usually set the heating to 17.

MintJulia · 10/03/2022 16:18

20 degrees.

Our thermostat is set to 18 but the wood burner keeps the sitting room and the bedroom above toasty warm.

When we go to bed, heating goes off but I leave the sitting room door open so the warmth escapes into the rest of the house.

BobbinHood · 10/03/2022 16:18

18.5 is perfect T-shirt and jeans temperature for me. Anything above 19 I get a bit too warm and it feels stuffy. I usually have thermostat set at 17.5 and work at home with an extra layer on. Has to be off completely at night or I can’t sleep.

Topseyt · 10/03/2022 16:19

Our thermostat is set at 19 - 20 here. The temperature does drop to 17 - 18 during the day at the moment when the heating is not on, and again late at night.

CharSiu · 10/03/2022 16:21

18 but DH likes 19 and walks about complaining like he is a polar bea4 stuck out on an ice flow.
