waterlego · 09/03/2022 12:17

Personally, I feel like we’re in end times but I’m a massive pessimist so hopefully I’m wrong.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/03/2022 12:18

@TheCurrywurstPrion

Like the start of Deadpool?

Actually, maybe it’s more like the end of Thelma and Louise!

🥳

Yes, I can see that Grin

I feel that too, to be honest. Pre-apocalyptic. Hence waiting on the rain of frogs - once that comes, we're doomed.

@TeenPlusCat

... A shining new era is tiptoeing nearer. So where do we feature? Just listen to teacher...
I'm now humming the song, 90s Disney movies were the best!

Came on MN for light entertainment and to procrastinate before starting next page of OU study only to find this exam question!

I'd like to think we were entering a new era of being more responsible for our actions, realising we have descended into a consumerist nightmare of quantity and style over quality and changing but in all reality I don't know how we are going to pull back.

I hate the trend that started in the 80s of promotion and marketing of unnecessary stuff. Other than the fact my mother had thick curtains that she put in the living room in winter to reduce heat loss from non-double-glazed windows, you basically bought furniture, accessories and soft furnishings that were used until they were beyond repair. Now TV and magazines encourage buying more stuff (sorry, "sourcing pieces") and changing each season to keep up with trends.

The vacuum of time-sucking trends on TikTok/Instagram - having to buy 'grammable acessories and share your pics, feeling that you need to have what the "influencers" do. Just depressing.

Blimey. I think that probably is overdoing the pessimism TBH. Flowers

@EmmaH2022

Joking aside OP In what way?

A lot of what some posters are talking about isn't new if you're old enough 😂

Agree with this, I grew up in council house only heating was a coal fire... it is not ideal but it will be fine
Landedonfeet · 09/03/2022 12:23

The internet heralded the dawn of a new age

But no - not current situation. No way

Landedonfeet · 09/03/2022 12:24

The wheel
Cars
Internet

This sort of thing heralds new ages

Not current situation

lborgia · 09/03/2022 12:25

There were some frogs last year, I seem to remember, so I think they were trying them out. I’ll take it as a good sign that frogs are currently not raining down.

FurryBandito · 09/03/2022 12:31

It was a lazy start to a thread admittedly. I have a huge to do list, that I'm working through, and can't afford a long mumsnet distraction

If you have a huge to-do list and haven't got time for a long MN distraction this is not the best subject. You'd be better with something like "I have a chicken breast in the fridge that's 3 months old. It's green and stinks. Should I still eat it?

No. I was joking.

TibetanTerrah · 09/03/2022 12:34

I think it could be a good thing. People are far too wasteful and greedy. We know about climate change but still put the heating on "because I want to be warm" rather than layer up and other methods. Still drive everywhere though it would be better and healthier to walk. Throw out food on its best before date just in case. Now we won't be able to afford to be so blasé about waste and excess.

Here at least, we are a nation of indulged spoiled brats in a lot of ways, and this will be a shock to many.

waterlego · 09/03/2022 12:35

@Thoosa, I probably needed to hear that so thank you. Maybe it’s time to get back on the SSRIs Grin

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 09/03/2022 12:38

Are you doing a crap pitch on the Apprentice?

FlibbertyGiblets · 09/03/2022 12:40

@Soffit

Yes, the moonlit downlands.
V good. Nodding in approval.

That chicken breast is probably worth more now at Tesco than it was 3 months ago so I suggest you put it on Facebook market place. Grin

Seriously though, I do feel more worried about everything than I've ever done in my adult life and I'm nearly 40. I think partly the realisation how everything is so interconnected as we saw with the pandemic and are seeing now with the cost of living. It's more than just an illusion that the internet and 24/7 news bring everything closer, everything really does impact us.

ZenNudist · 09/03/2022 12:44

I think you need to give your own opinion what we are or aren't. Can't just say discuss. Cones across as either arrogant or a journo.

crispmidnightpeace · 09/03/2022 12:45

Great Reset. It will bring social credit, huge population reduction, and loss of all Western freedom.

InsideTheNet · 09/03/2022 12:45

No we're not.

MakkaPakkas · 09/03/2022 12:47

@SpinningTheSeedsOfLove

In order to fully understand the question, it is necessary to define terms. Oh fuck, I'm never gonna waffle this one for two sides of A4.

What is 'witnessing'? Some people think it is seeing, like when something happens and you are there and you manage to film it with your iPhone. I don't know and I don't care.

'The dawn of a new age' usually refers to beginning of a new way of doing things, like work and politics and stuff. I wonder if Marty has remembered to nick that vodka off his mum for tonight?

So when things change, like what is happening now in the papers, it can be referred to The Dawn of a New Age. I hate GCSE Citizenship.

Therefore this has been an interesting discussion and it is proved that it is the Dawn of a New Age. That'll do.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 09/03/2022 12:50

Compare and contrast in the context of a response to climate change.

"We would not voluntarily adopt any of the restrictions that would slow the trajectory of global warming."

"The exigencies of war and the cost of fuel compelled people to adopt a less fuel intensive mode of everyday life."

Thoosa · 09/03/2022 12:54

You wouldn’t be alone, I suspect.

Bromse · 09/03/2022 12:58

I wonder if I will live long enough to see it :-), however I am feeling good today.
