Yes we are! Definitely! Just as they said in the 1960s, and 1940s, and 1920s, and 1880s etc etc etc

The future begins all the frickin time.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 09/03/2022 11:48

I actually think it is.

This war just seems for want of a better word ‘old fashioned’
People are more connected globally. No one seems to want this war except Putin.

I hope cyber globalism and the rise of the Millennials changed everything.

Lessyuck · 09/03/2022 11:50

Yes, OLd age hippies unite. Here, and here.

One of the questions in the literature exam a few years after I left university was: 'It's tragedy... Tragedy/ when you lose control and you got no soul, it's tragedy.' Discuss.

I was gutted to have missed that question.

SamphiretheStickerist · 09/03/2022 11:56

Oh! And a more personal one

Gulf Coast Highway - Nanci Griffith

Gulf Coast Highway
He worked the rails
He worked the rice fields
With their cool, dark wells
He worked the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico
The only thing we've ever owned
Is this old house here by the road

And when he dies
He says he'll catch some blackbird's wing
Then he will fly away to heaven
Come some sweet, blue bonnet spring

She walked through springtime
When I was home
The days were sweet
The nights were warm
The seasons change, the jobs would come, the flowers fade
This old house felt so alone
When the work took me away

And when she dies
She says she'll catch some blackbird's wing
Then she will fly away to heaven
Come some sweet, blue bonnet spring

Ball of Confusion the Temptations- where they are like oh everything has gone to shit, but that song is more than 50 years old so…

HairyToity · 09/03/2022 11:58

Love the playlist!

It was a lazy start to a thread admittedly. I have a huge to do list, that I'm working through, and can't afford a long mumsnet distraction.

A feeling sums it up nicely. The world feels much much more unpredictable. Tease away!

I so want this to be true Grin
lborgia · 09/03/2022 11:59

Mm. Well I hope it's not. Down under we're just fine with it being a particularly feisty la nina if you don't mind.

Flooding, fires, pestilence, it's all very biblical.

I'm hoping it's more a "sabbatical" then a new dawn.

TeenPlusCat · 09/03/2022 12:01

...
A shining new era
is tiptoeing nearer.
So where do we feature?
Just listen to teacher...

73kittycat73 · 09/03/2022 12:03

@merryhouse

Oh. So what you actually mean is

"are we going to get poorer to such an extent that even the more comfortable among us will have to start thinking about it?"

Yes.

But probably not for long. In ten years' time three quarters of you will be back to worrying about how best to die under the IHT threshold.

Meanwhile a bunch of people will have died well under the IHT threshold; and everyone else will be thinking "phew! just about got through that"

Just like last time. And the time before. And the time before that...

Sorry if I'm being thick, but what is the 'IHT threshold?'
MarieIVanArkleStinks · 09/03/2022 12:04

Kinell. Have EdExcel finally made their way onto MN?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/03/2022 12:05

Still waiting on that rain of frogs though...

This is a fun read re the Age of Aquarius, if anyone has a mind to look at it!
www.artnews.com/art-in-america/features/art-world-astrology-age-of-aquarius-2021-predictions-1234585865/

Knowing what we know now, it's quite bothersome if you believe in it!

Miss (I assume), what happens if we don't "discuss"?
Clarabe1 · 09/03/2022 12:05

On the plus side - and God knows we need one, maybe people will become a little less materialistic and embrace a simpler life??

TheCurrywurstPrion · 09/03/2022 12:06

The dawn of a new age sounds lovely. This feels more like a car crash where we are still in the first seconds after impact and the car is still hurtling onwards in an uncontrolled direction, while the windscreen is so cracked that we can’t see what we’re heading towards.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/03/2022 12:06

IHT = inheritance tax.

Like the start of Deadpool?
ComeOnSpringtime · 09/03/2022 12:06

@WeDontShutUpAboutBruno

Its a new dawn, its a new day, and I'm feeling good.
Birds in the sky, you know how I feel... 🎶

Why start a thread with 'discuss' if you don't have time for a discussion? Confused
TheCurrywurstPrion · 09/03/2022 12:09

Like the start of Deadpool?

Actually, maybe it’s more like the end of Thelma and Louise!

🥳

ComeOnSpringtime · 09/03/2022 12:09

@HairyToity

Should have said "new era"
"It's the end of an era" - Monica and Rachel.
ComeOnSpringtime · 09/03/2022 12:12
@thoosa - too much effort!!!
10/10 for saying the truth. I haven't seen any other "Discuss" poster who's admitted to it.

balalake · 09/03/2022 12:14

The new age to me starts when Mr Johnson leaves office. I know with 100% certainty that the next Prime Minister however bad will be better and probably be full-time.
