Love the replies!

Seriously, OP, what's happening in this "New Age"?

Someone mentioned Aquarius on a Ukraine thread and I thought “Fuck, has that not dawned yet? It’s been a long time coming”.

HairyToity · 09/03/2022 11:19

Should have said "new era"

All of that for something that's only worth 10 marks? Sounds like my history GCSE

@HairyToity

Today, I turned my heating off (except for 1.5 hours in the morning), and I thought - is this a new way of life. Minimal heating from now on.... Is a 110 mile round journey to enjoy a day on the beach, ever going to happen again. Will we use less fossil fuels and gas out of necessity. Are we all going to be much poorer from now on.
I think you're being a bit dramatic.

Yes we will all start turning our heating off after taking the early morning chill of because it's basically spring now and the weather is getting milder.

I'm pretty sure we'll still be able to go to the beach. Go on a train if you can't afford the petrol and still want to go.

Oh god seriously. Sod off with your imperious “discuss” nonsense. If you want a proper discussion, then start one properly.
HairyToity · 09/03/2022 11:23

@thoosa - too much effort!!!

@toastfiend

I had terrible flashbacks to A-Level exam essay questions then...

Given that we're not at school - if you'd like a discussion, OP, then why don't you kick it off? What makes you think that that's the case?

TBF, even in education, even the very worst, laziest teachers would never have issued such sketchy bilge as “We are witnessing the dawn of a new age. Discuss.”

Go and concentrate on keeping warm then.

How do you mean?

EmmaH2022 · 09/03/2022 11:26

Joking aside OP
In what way?

A lot of what some posters are talking about isn't new if you're old enough 😂

merryhouse · 09/03/2022 11:27

Oh. So what you actually mean is

"are we going to get poorer to such an extent that even the more comfortable among us will have to start thinking about it?"

Yes.

But probably not for long. In ten years' time three quarters of you will be back to worrying about how best to die under the IHT threshold.

Meanwhile a bunch of people will have died well under the IHT threshold; and everyone else will be thinking "phew! just about got through that"

Just like last time. And the time before. And the time before that...

DoingAway · 09/03/2022 11:28

Google says that Aquarius either has or has not dawned or may not for another few hundred years as astrologers don’t agree. So that’s cleared that up then.

KateTheEighth · 09/03/2022 11:30

Is that you Nostradamus?

FindingMeno · 09/03/2022 11:35

I agree, but it's a feeling not something I can put into words.

When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius
Age of Aquarius
Aquarius
Aquarius
Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelation
And the mind's true liberation
Aquarius
Aquarius
When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius
Age of Aquarius
Aquarius
Aquarius
Aquarius
Aquarius
Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in
Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in
Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in
Oh, let it shine, c'mon
Now everybody just sing along
Let the sun shine in
Open up your heart and let it shine on in
When you are lonely, let it shine on
Got to open up your heart and let it shine on in
And when you feel like you've been mistreated
And your friends turn away
Just open your heart, and shine it on in

SamphiretheStickerist · 09/03/2022 11:39

Oh! Dawning of a New Era you are saying now?

This is the dawning of a new era
This is the dawning of a new era
I met a girl from area three
She told me that she worked in a chicken factory
This is the dawning of a new era
By two o'clock we were Brahms & Liszt
Had to walk her home through area six
This is the dawning of a new era
Sticks and stones may break my bones
In area six they throw bottles and bricks and kicks
This is the dawning of a new era
I climbed the stairs to the fourteenth floor
The key won't fit the door
This is the dawning of a new era
She said she had a beautiful flat
We had to sleep on the mat
This is the dawning of a new era
Woke up and thought "This ain't exactly heaven"
Oh shit, this is area seven
This is the dawning of a new era
This is the dawning of a new era
This is the dawning of a new era
This is so boring, it's a new era

Neverendingdust · 09/03/2022 11:41

You are referring to our descent in Mad Max world, right?

Sorry, I missed this

So have I got this right....you're talking about being poorer and cutbacks for most people as the "dawn of a new age"?

I think it will be similar to the 90s recession. My sister was out of work for ages. I also think 1.5 hour heating sounds like standard for an old draughty house, if that's where you are.

I used to come home from school and keep my coat on as the house was so cold. Eventually mum let me read in bed at 4pm, it was warmer and sofa blankets weren't a thing.

SamphiretheStickerist · 09/03/2022 11:43

Or Stone! Push me, shove you. Oh yeah, says who?

And all that stuff.

Or maybe The Purge...

bluebirdwings · 09/03/2022 11:45

Can someone smarter than me please come up with a playlist for this? I can only think of Aquarius & Feeling Good ... oh - In The Year 2525 too...

Soffit · 09/03/2022 11:45

Yes, the moonlit downlands.

Flapjacker48 · 09/03/2022 11:45

Hopefully in this "new age" annoying poster who say "discuss" as one word posts won't exist.

AchillesLastStand · 09/03/2022 11:47

I think the world feels a very different place to 2019, in the West at least. I think we’re witnessing the end of cheap energy and we’ll have to come to terms with living very different lifestyles. Climate change is practically irreversible now and capitalism is going through a process of creative destruction (Schumpeter, 1942 ). Old practices will give way to more sustainable productive processes and capitalism as we know it won’t survive. It can’t.
