Another daily project

Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

Sat with a coffee, browsing for funky bedding. It needs to not be white or grey, and although it is a human bed, it needs to be ddog friendly. The pampered pooch loves teddy fleece bedding! However dc1 can't have that in the summer or they will boil.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/04/2022 14:50

If you find some and it's 300+ TC can you let me know please?

I like 'funky bedding' but it doesn't seem to exist in Not Polyester.

Best I can find is www.next.co.uk/style/st747349/475496#475496

But it's only OK. I had a nice striped one but it wore out after being used every other week for over a decade.

Plain white bedding is so boring and impossible to keep stain free when you have animals.

RunningKatie · 30/04/2022 16:18

Oh that is beautiful bedding, so elegant.

SpringLobelia · 01/05/2022 06:09

Big fan of teddy bear fleece bedding here too. As are the cats!!!

Yesterday was a complete flop for me. I seem to have run out of energy and inspiration. I could not even do the ironing which is usually my go to plan if nothing else. But this week I need to;
-chase up prescription- seems it got lost between my request to the GP and the pharmacy
-see if my picture that was being realigned by the framer has been finished
-finish choosing fabric for the upholsterer (need to go to our local haberdasher as the upholsterer did not have quite what i was after).

I am also looking for sone long plain neutral and hard wearing runners for our hallway. We have a very long hallway but the wood needs to be varnished. (A summer project for DH for the past 3 years!). In the meantime I think some of the sisal rugs and runners that you can get would look quite nice. I have not yet seen what I am after.

Right. I have a list again. Time to motivate myself!

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 01/05/2022 07:13

runningkatie I got our teddy bear fleece fitted sheets from eBay and am very happy with them. Cheap as chips. I loathe that “slippery” sheet feeling from the polycottons 🤮 - so “king of cottons” and Laura Ashley are my go tos for proper cotton. Joules are good too but check the composition before you buy.

we’ve only recently gone over to teddy fleece fitted sheets. Because who doesn’t want to curl up in the arms of a teddy at night?

today I’m aiming to get a few things outside under a cloche, do the next layer of the “no dig” beds, tons of smug drying and smug stock is in the slow cooker as I type.

I'm also going to research paint.

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 01/05/2022 07:23

Another project - I bought a beautiful brand new silk shirt for under a fiver on eBay a few weeks. When it arrived it had the most HIDEOUS thick 100% polyester lining - I mean just WHY? So I’m going to unpick that and burn it to make Greta cry. Luckily Netflix has released a new series for it seems like ALL my favourite shows this month.

DinosaurRenaissance · 01/05/2022 16:15

Little progress in our household for the last few days - we're all ill with one of those colds that really knocks you sideways, so looking after the baby and feeding us is about all I'm managing at the moment.

Well done everyone else on your daily tasks though!

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 02/05/2022 05:57

I ended up not planting out yesterday in the end when I checked the weather report, I’m going to hold off another week. But I got loads of bed prep done and had a very productive day. Didn’t manage the shirt, so will do that tonight.

had an epiphany Tiffany about who to tackle a small, but tricky task due to chair balancing, arm stretching and bearing electric power tools with middle-aged wobbly hands.

Aww bless you, that takes me back! I remember when DH and I were knocked sideways simultaneously with a flu bug when we had 2 toddlers. It was a relief when they went down with it too, in a way, as they were a lot less energetic than usual!
I hope you are all feeling much better.

Sometimes the very basics feel like a win! Flowers

Morning all!
Finally done a charity shop drop off. I fill my car boot then it sits there for weeks till I drive the 5 mins to the shop. Anyway, that's another load of stuff gone.
Strange how the house never feels any less cluttered though.

Solosunrise · 03/05/2022 12:10

I had to Google 'teddy bear fleece'. It does look cosy but DH and I are oddballs who like the feeling of cold cotton sheets!

@EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter please treat yourself to a decent step ladder and promise us daily projecters that you will, under no circumstances, balance on a wobbly chair!!

I think you must be my twin! I do exactly that!
Well done, very proud of you! It's a great feeling isn't it?

Morning!

Still struggling with motivation so cleaned out my spice cupboard. I am most pleased with myself.

I am also still struggling to get a prescription filled so need to spend a fair whack of time traipsing the pharmacists as there are stock issues with the item in our area apparently.

DH and I sat down last night and did a thorough review of our spending also due to cost of living increase issues. We have identified a few ways to cut back and down so that is good and we are on the same page (even better!).

@DinosaurRenaissance hope you feel better soon. Thanks

DinosaurRenaissance · 03/05/2022 13:42

Thanks @Solosunrise and @SpringLobelia Starting to feel marginally less rotten today. The basics absolutely DO feel like a win sometimes. Fed and clean and having banked some degree of sleep is good enough for me!

ThreeRingCircus · 03/05/2022 13:52

Catching up over the bank holiday weekend:

Sunday - I sorted out all of DD2's clothes including getting the next size up out of storage from when DD1 was that age and bagging up the clothes that DD2 has grown out of then I dropped them in the charity collection bin.

Yesterday - I posted a birthday card for my niece and ordered her presents to be delivered to her house.

Today - not much but I've done the food shopping and am just trying to muster enthusiasm to do some weeding in the garden before collecting DD1 from school.

ThreeRingCircus · 03/05/2022 13:56

Oh, I forgot that on Sunday I also overseeded the lawn with daisy and clover seeds. I'm really trying to encourage an "interesting" lawn and for it to be a bit more wildlife friendly. I dream of a back garden lawn full of daisies, buttercups and clover!

@SpringLobelia all is sounding so positive! Very well done indeed!

I'm proud of myself for getting a small thing fixed on my car today before it became a problem !

More stitching!

I'm not sure it can really be called mending and it certainly isn't darning - it's basically pushing a needle around until the two sides close up, and it leaves a significant amount of scar tissue...

Anyway. Elbow on H's shirt; elbow on my jumper; front of S2's tshirt (an unexplained actual Gappy Hole between two US-uni-style letters, which was a bugger to stitch).

Still another shirt elbow, with more missing so quite daunting, and my two tshirts with massive holes under the arms (big sleeves so I might just machine them across) to go.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/05/2022 16:34

I’ve managed to make a start on sorting out my yarn stash - I’ve only done half an hour (all I can manage) but I’ve got two Bags for Life full of yarn for the knitting group/charity shop, and another one of rubbish - so I feel quite successful.

I have still got a lot more to do - I’m maybe one third of the way through the yarn in the conservatory, but now I’ve made a start, the rest ought to be easier.

And virtue has been rewarded - I found a length of material I’d completely forgotten about, and with a bit of work, it will make a nice summer skirt.

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 04/05/2022 07:28

solosunrise consider myself told! The stepladder is in my Amazon basket. It’s one of those things That kept dropping off the “mental load” to buy.

I had one once - but it disappeared somewhere along a house move/divorce.

ive been trying to declutter my bedroom a little. Every time I go downstairs I take a couple of things for the bin/charity.

I have far too many clothes and far too many of them are in poor condition. So I’m mustering up the strength to deal with a few items a week.

PierresPotato · 04/05/2022 13:54

I'm definitely counting the basics as a win at the moment.
I'm at the expanding what I do daily round house and kitchen so I'm mostly satisfied with that.

I am thinking of culling some older clothes. I simply have too many for my storage and quite a lot are shabby. Sadly the two main categories are "beloved but shabby" or pristine and thus "too good to get rid of."
Now I have time to consider things I want to make some decisions.
Good luck to all.

RunningKatie · 04/05/2022 14:30

Raining on and off here, coupled with a busy work day - so I'm having a moment.
I'm aiming to sort out my running gear later, I have 2 drawers of stuff and I've been injured for years. Going to cull the tatty stuff and aiming to condense to one drawer.
Then tomorrow I just need to lose 3 stone to fit into it.

PierresPotato · 04/05/2022 15:42

I should say the pristine stuff is a problem because I either never have the occasion to wear them or they really don't suit me that well.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/05/2022 16:29

I have clothes like that too, @PierresPotato - and I worry about getting rid of them in case dh sees I’m donating something I’ve never/almost never worn. The same applies to things I’ve bought second hand off eBay. In reality, I doubt he’d give it a second thought - partly because he doesn’t remember what I’ve bought and partly because he isn’t petty or critical like that - but that never stops me fretting.

I have written a long letter to my pen pal today - she has had a rough few months, and has been very poorly, so it was lovely to get a letter from her today, and I wanted to reply quickly. I can’t decide if I want to sort some more yarn today - on the one hand, I have a bit of momentum now, but on the other hand, I don’t want to swamp either my knitting group friends or the charity shop with my unwanted yarn. That sounds like an excuse, doesn’t it. Blush
