Kids don't have passports

nearlyspringyay · 08/03/2022 11:56

Kids' passports have just gone for renewal, it's maxing me anxious.

If Putin decides to nuke the UK I'd like to try and get them out to family in non NATO countries if we could. Would they be able to without a passport, how do the logistics work?

I realise I'm extrapolating, I'm more concerned with ow it would work in practice, if planes were able to fly etc etc. Do the refugees coming from Ukraine need a passport? What do you do if you don't have one?

OP posts:

The Rockies? Hmm The UK is further away from Russia than the rockies are.

AlexaShutUp · 08/03/2022 19:13

OP, you're making no sense.

If a no fly zone is put in place, but the UK has not been attacked, you would not be a refugee. Obviously!

Therefore, you and your kids would need passports and possibly visas to go abroad. Obviously.

I can't understand why you would even ask. You will not be accepted as a refugee anywhere on the basis that things might become unsafe in your own country at some point.

AlexaShutUp · 08/03/2022 19:16

@nearlyspringyay

Just to clarify for the last time, if he THREATENS to nuke the uk, and there were hours to get them out on a commercial flight what happens without a passport?. That's all.

Get back in your boxes.

I'm incredulous at the idea that you could just rock up to the airport hop on a flight to to somewhere safe at such a time...with or without a passport.Confused
Teddeh · 08/03/2022 19:43

Where are you trying to send them?

Because of the Common Travel Area, it's possible to travel legally between the UK and Ireland (non-NATO, but not exactly out of the line of fire) without a passport in some cases. Some airlines, ferries, etc. do require a passport for UK Ireland routes and some accept other documents - see Aer Lingus as an example.

If your children have another citizenship, you may be able to get an emergency travel document for them to go directly to that country depending on the circumstances. The relevant embassy or consulate/high commission would be able to advise.

If you're planning to send the children without an adult, though, read up on various airlines' policies on unaccompanied minors, many now won't accept children under a certain age without a parent or guardian so you may have problems even with the new passports.

Lesperance · 08/03/2022 19:46

Not only do you need a passport, but Britain has decided that Ukranians going to Britain need visas. So I wouldn't count on being able to leave without a passport and go anywhere. You are being ridiculous though.
I mean, seriously. Do you have the first idea about nuclear bombs? Do you think that one will be launched and you can just meander to the nearest airport? Have you never heard of long range nuclear weapons?

Also which Rocky Mountains aren't in a NATO country? Not the Canadian or the American ones.

LittleBrenda · 08/03/2022 19:47

The Rockies.

To be honest, OP, I think you probably need to leave now. If Putin decides to launch a nuclear weapon, it take MINUTES to launch. You will not be putting anybody on a plane to anywhere.

Putin isn't going to nuke us all. What's more frightening to me than the possibility of us being nuked is how people like OP are reacting to the situation in the Ukraine.
Tillymintpolo · 08/03/2022 19:56

Ffs 🙄, you really think you’ll have enough warning to get a plane to Canada ?!

Possibly somebody who doesn't think that North America would be a target, also thinks that the Rocky mountains would be a really safe destination and hopping on a plane when the warnings go off is totally feasible.

I saw someone in another thread call them "written panic attacks".
ChiefWiggumsBoy · 08/03/2022 20:34

If we were going to be nuked you wouldn’t have time to get them out.

If we were nuked and you were far enough from the bomb to have lived, you’d be a refugee. You might not get the rockies but you’d be able to get out that way.

I don’t think a passport in either circumstance would be much help if I’m honest.

BakewellGin1 · 08/03/2022 20:47

I often get told I look at worst case scenarios but this is mental Confused

liveforsummer · 08/03/2022 22:01

To answer your question- a threat doesn't mean much, I mean he's hinted at as much already. A no fly zone over Ukraine won't negate any need for passports either. Yes you will need one in this instance. An imminent nuke you won't need one but you won't be going anywhere anyway. On the basis of your thinking do you've actually have somewhere specific in mind and are you actually preparing to send your dc?

AuldFox · 08/03/2022 22:03

I’m here for the “highly educated” plan on how to ensure my children can outrun a nuclear missile. Better start training them now.

ItsAlwaysThere · 08/03/2022 22:11

I like this thinking! Off to fill in the forms...!

PinotPony · 08/03/2022 23:08

I accompanied my DS (17) to flight school on Saturday. So my family will be absolutely fine... 😉

HastySlander · 08/03/2022 23:10

Hahaha fuck me sort your life out

Nelliephant1 · 08/03/2022 23:11

If he "nukes" us which is more than unlikely, I think the chances of planes flying are zero, never mind passport checks!! If it's a full on attack then getting the kids to another country will be the least if your problems.

This thread surely has to be a wind up.

You refer to yourself as intelligent, highly educated, realistic, not anxious etc. If you're not winding people up and you believe this then you should get some help because that is actually delusional as you have demonstrated that you have no clue how nuclear weapons and nuclear war plays out.

I really hope you're having some strange sort of fun with this post and it's not real.

What happens without a passport? Well, we all go up in smoke, passport or no. Does that help alleviate your concerns Hmm

Get back in your boxes? Nice.

Right, what happens is this:
Any other country will make a decision on whether they’re going accept refugees or not, and on what basis.
Once they’ve decided they will take them (on some basis) then they will decide what the entry requirements are.

No-one call you that I’m advance.
They might do a Poland: all welcome, no paperwork.
They might do a U.K: media sound bites but actually quite hard.
They might say: no.

So once they’ve decided, the commercial airlines have their own choice to make.

Remember passport checking is also for security reasons. They might decide they want a passport for that reason. No-one can tell you. Refugees without paperwork don’t have flights as their main route in.

In peace time, commercial airlines can legally take you without a passport. Happened to me when mine was stolen abroad. But that’s to return you to a country, and there’s a procedure for it.

If you want your kids out, go as soon as your passport is back.

marcopront · 09/03/2022 04:06

@XenoBitch

If anyone fires nukes, we are all done for anyway. The only safe place for your kids would be the moon.

I will echo what a few others have said, and suggest you get some help for your anxiety.

I can see Putin trying to steal the moon like Gru in Minions
