Kids don't have passports

nearlyspringyay · 08/03/2022 11:56

Kids' passports have just gone for renewal, it's maxing me anxious.

If Putin decides to nuke the UK I'd like to try and get them out to family in non NATO countries if we could. Would they be able to without a passport, how do the logistics work?

I realise I'm extrapolating, I'm more concerned with ow it would work in practice, if planes were able to fly etc etc. Do the refugees coming from Ukraine need a passport? What do you do if you don't have one?

OP posts:

Okay, if he threatens to nuke the U.K. and your kids don’t have passports, they won’t be able to leave.

XenoBitch · 08/03/2022 18:06

If anyone fires nukes, we are all done for anyway. The only safe place for your kids would be the moon.

I will echo what a few others have said, and suggest you get some help for your anxiety.

ItsREDfive · 08/03/2022 18:08

Official documents are always a good idea. The ones with them will be allowed to go to the front of the queues, whatever those queues may be for. Evacuations, etc.
And if the chatter of imposing a no fly zone starts to increase then I would consider booking a flight out of the country if I had family elsewhere (I don’t )

HomeHomeInTheRange · 08/03/2022 18:08

if he THREATENS to nuke the uk, and there were hours to get them out on a commercial flight what happens without a passport?. That's all

If there was ‘hours’ there would be no flights.
It wouldn’t be safe to be on a flight. Any nuclear strike would be met with a counter strike. Missiles flying about. No fly zones.

This is why people are not getting what you are on about.

tigger1001 · 08/03/2022 18:10

"It's further away, that's all. It was a hypothetical question, and not a single person has been able to answer how it works if you want to leave a country in a potential war zone without a passport. I'm out."

Not by a huge amount really - about 2,000km . You do remember the world isn't flat? And Russia and USA are actually only a few miles apart at the Bering sea?

Realistically there won't really be anywhere safe in the event Russia decides to launch nuclear weapons.

And if he was seriously threatening a strike within hours passports aren't the issue - we are an island. Getting anywhere out of the uk will be nigh on impossible

HomeHomeInTheRange · 08/03/2022 18:10

This.

But it won’t matter because in those circumstances you couldn’t practically or safely get in a plane anyway.

gogohm · 08/03/2022 18:11

Don't worry, if he decides to nuke will never know it happened! Sorry couldn't resist Grin

Get a grip for the save of your children, yes it worrying but for Ukrainians not us

SickAndTiredAgain · 08/03/2022 18:14

if he THREATENS to nuke the uk, and there were hours to get them out on a commercial flight what happens without a passport?.

If he threatened to nuke the UK, the airports would be carnage, and tickets pretty much impossible to get hold of.
If it got to “put your children on a plane and send them to safety” territory, I doubt it would be a case of buying a ticket online, turning up to a nice orderly airport and having them check your passport.

tiredanddangerous · 08/03/2022 18:14

I hope you're not passing this ridiculousness on to your children op.

Chloemol · 08/03/2022 18:17

@nearlyspringyay

I don't have anxiety, it's a question about how it works. If I can and want to fly my kids out to the depths of the rockie mountains can they do it without a passport if it came to it.
No
Wintersbone · 08/03/2022 18:19

The answer is no one knows, OP. If the United Kingdom went to war with Russia then with any luck diplomatic channels would open with other countries to get out whomever could/wanted to go. It would obviously be easier with a passport but there is no process. It would be decided by the receiving country. It's not foolishness. Europe is as close as it's been in 70 years to war. Thinking these things through is not ridiculous.

Comedycook · 08/03/2022 18:20

They've expired. Time. It's not difficult to extrapolate that is it?

Amazingly did you know you can renew passports when they expire. It's absolutely mind blowing. Do that. It will take a couple of weeks I'd imagine. The entire population of the UK won't be refugees by then so you've got time...and most importantly of all you're completely realistic and not a bit anxious Hmm

gettingolderandgrumpy · 08/03/2022 18:20

You won’t have time op just as doomed as the rest of us a passport won’t save you .!!
But I wouldn’t worry we aren’t about to be nuked and unlike Ukraine which country would we be to go to if we were refugees?

drawingpad · 08/03/2022 18:20

if he THREATENS to nuke the uk, and there were hours to get them out on a commercial flight what happens without a passport?. That's all.

Well you don't go, but the more important factor is that you wouldn't be going with a passport either.

LollyLol · 08/03/2022 18:24

You mention being educated, well a quick Google will tell you that you can't "ship your kids to the Rockies" without a passport. On a commercial flight, you cannot fly internationally without a passport.

Aside from that, if there is a realistic chance that Putin is going to nuke us, do you honestly think you'll be able to boom them a flight out? Fat chance.

If you want to get your kids out of the country, you need to do it a.s.a.p. ahead of the pack; by the time you've decided it is necessary so will EVERYONE else, and you won't be able to get them out. It will be chaos.

Get them out now/as soon as he passports arrive and accept you may not see them for a few years unless you go too (this Ukraine thing is likely to drag on) or quit worrying about it.

accentdusoleil · 08/03/2022 18:32

Why don't you spend some time volunteering with refugees and you can start to understand the situation better (it's far longer and harder journey/ process than just a flight)

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/03/2022 18:33

@nearlyspringyay

Just to clarify for the last time, if he THREATENS to nuke the uk, and there were hours to get them out on a commercial flight what happens without a passport?. That's all.

Get back in your boxes.

Commercial flights would not be operating if a nuke was on the way.
Comedycook · 08/03/2022 18:34

Oh sorry just saw you have renewed them and are waiting for new ones. Well surely you don't seriously believe you'll be a refugee in the next two weeks or so?! If you honestly think this will happen then words fail me

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/03/2022 18:35

Do you actually think that pilots would be rocking up to work as normal to rescue your kids if they knew a nuke was on the way?

RobertsRadio · 08/03/2022 18:41

I think Op should get their pilot's license asap and buy a plane big enough for the family (and pets of course). A seaplane would be excellent.

coldfeetmama · 08/03/2022 18:41

Quartz2208 · 08/03/2022 18:54

If it got to that stage though where would there be to run? The devastation caused would likely hit pretty much everywhere and the areas that it didnt - well what food and water supplies would there be left. Nuclear Winter is a horrific concept that you cannot outrun.

It is why it is called MAD - because very little would survive. The scariest thing about Nuclear War is that the better option is to be caught up in a bomb and not survive. It is why it is so anxiety inducing because there is no where to go

amylou8 · 08/03/2022 18:55

Rationally it makes no sense to start a nuclear war, mutually assured destruction and all that, but Putin is not rational. Who knows what turns this is going to take. Whilst becoming anxious about it won't change anything, I think some basic planning is sensible.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 08/03/2022 18:59

The situation will be either everything is working as normal because everyone is not thinking the unthinkable or the unthinkable is actually happening and all he'll has broken loose.
In the former situation you will need to be properly equipped with a passport, ESTA and tickets.
In the latter, nobody is getting on a plane unless they're rich, strong, well-connected or a pilot.

XenoBitch · 08/03/2022 19:00

The only plan for a nuke is to make sure you have a fast and painless way to opt out of life at home.
