Who would you have for Prime Minister (lighthearted)

Not ATAAT but inspired by one - if you could have any non politician as PM who would you choose and why?

I'd like a comedian like Dara O'Brian or Russel Howard - they are intelligent, funny and seem to have the measure of people.

How about you?

I will never understand why Tory party members chose the absolutely incompetent lying clown we have in number 10 over Rory Stewart

I completely agree. Rory isn't perfect but at least he's principled and was the first person that came to mind.

If we're having non-politicians though I'd say Fiona Bruce with Jackie Weaver as deputy PM.

Yourway · 06/03/2022 08:43

I agree with Jon Snow and David Attenborough too. Calm, wise, respected diplomatic, intelligent and likeable. Many journalists actually, they are brave, informed and would be excellent leaders.

Carole Cadwallwdr is being exceptionally impressive with her knowledge and delivery at the moment.

NiLunNiLautre · 06/03/2022 08:51

Yes indeed. Especially those fearless when questioning slimy or ill-informed politicians. Clive Myrie, Ros Atkins... think Orla Guerin wouldn't take any crap either.

@MarshaBradyo

Mark Carney
Chancellor?
LightsoftheNorth · 06/03/2022 09:51
@LightsoftheNorth That's not true about the cervix comment surely?Shock
Yes it is. He said (this is a quote) 'a cervix is something you can have following various treatments and hormone treatment, all the rest of it'.

The man's an idiot.

Juno22 · 06/03/2022 09:57

I assumed the person who said David Lammy was joking.....

sorryforswearing · 06/03/2022 10:12

Bob Geldof

gingerhills · 06/03/2022 10:17

I think JK Rowling is the best choice so far. She has the compassion, imagination, far-reaching vision and ability to withstand ridiculous pressure and random accusations in the media and from troll lands.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/03/2022 10:17

Negan Grin

insertcleverusername · 06/03/2022 10:41

Jess Phillips would be a good candidate, I think she has a lot of empathy.

FindingMeno · 06/03/2022 11:19

@MrsSkylerWhite

Negan Grin
Strokes chin and considers this..... I'm sure he wouldn't be a tory pm though - nowhere near nasty enough.
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 06/03/2022 14:28

@sorryforswearing

Bob Geldof
Better suited to Chancellor... "Give us your f***g money!"
notprincehamlet · 06/03/2022 16:00

The tub of lard that appeared on HIGNFY - infinitely more competent than the present incumbent

MrsDThomas · 06/03/2022 16:25

Hugh Grant

LadyMacduff · 06/03/2022 16:26

Gary Neville

WellNotReally · 06/03/2022 21:53

Gareth Southgate

VenezuelaChant · 06/03/2022 23:19

A garden gnome.

SometimesRavenSometimesParrot · 06/03/2022 23:42

Robert Carlyle. He did an excellent job in Cobra.

Juergen Klopp

Tim Burton - not sure he’d be any good but 10 Downing Street will need someone with vision to help it recover from the recent makeover.

Simon Cowell maybe? PMQs would be better at least.

SometimesRavenSometimesParrot · 06/03/2022 23:44

Although if we can have fictional characters I’d like to suggest Rupert Giles. I might vote for Negan….

StarlightLady · 07/03/2022 06:54

Sticking to the OP’s original brief of non-politician, l would have Emma Barnett as PM with Sue Perkins as deputy.

Zillamop · 07/03/2022 07:08

Yes to Emma Barnett

BluesCluesToo · 07/03/2022 07:11

Richard Osman. He seems like a very trustworthy, funny and lovely person.

BluesCluesToo · 07/03/2022 07:18

Also agree Martin Lewis would be good.

gingerhills · 07/03/2022 08:12

@BluesCluesToo

Richard Osman. He seems like a very trustworthy, funny and lovely person.
Does he really? He always comes over as complacent and conceited to me. Not horrible but definitely not passionately engaged with improving the world and the quality of life of anyone other than himself. I could be wrong. That's just how he seems when I see him on TV.
Thunderpunt · 07/03/2022 08:20

Miriam Margolyes, she just call every one a fucking cunt if they didn't get in line
