Over £260 in Home Bargains

I didn't even know that was possible.

Not me, the woman at the front of the queue when I joined. It appeared to be just all random bits rather than furniture or anything else expensive. Her trolley was piled high when she left.

I only went in for the posh tonic water they have for 19 p a bottle and managed to get away with £15 worth of different tonics, unusual crisps, proper Spanish allioli and some shower gels but hats off to her that was another level.

I wonder if she went in for that much 😂

Is it better than B & M or The Range?

Is it better than B & M or The Range?
Best to worst imo

B&M (crap version of HB)
Home Bargins (crap version of the Range)
The Range (crap version of Woolies)

Batinhernightdress · 05/03/2022 12:09

No crappiest is me, that should read worst to best

Whitefire · 05/03/2022 12:13

That is quite an achievement, but I guess easily done, especially if buying toys and things.

linerforlife · 05/03/2022 12:14

Wow. That's impressive. I did £180ish once in B&M but it was just after lockdown and I hadn't been in a shop for over 3 months!!

ArabellaStrange · 05/03/2022 12:15

I wish we had a home bargains nearby. Then again it's probably good for my cash flow that we do not.

BobblyBlueJumper · 05/03/2022 12:23

@NeverAgainSam

Decathlon. Went to have a look and maybe buy some running socks. £160 later......
Yes!!!!!

My god. I have to restrict myself to only going a couple of times a year.

abigailsnan · 05/03/2022 12:23

I'm off to a visit to B&M this afternoon they have a 50% sale on I can see my lounge having nice new cushions and blingy stuff later to-day.

BuddhaForMary · 05/03/2022 12:23

Our local Home Bargains and B&M both closed last year and now it's a taxi ride to both. I miss having them both so close because now when I do decide to go I end up nearly dying when I get to the checkout 😂

Never spent £260 though!!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 05/03/2022 12:24

I once spent £85 in Home Bargains. It was just before the first lock down and I couldnt be bothered to queue for the empty shelved supermarket. I did a normal weekly shop (some brand switches as they don't stock all the usuals) including freezer foods, fresh meat and fish, fresh fruit and veg and bakery. Our HBs is great and after the success of that I did (and still do) top up shopping there.

latetothefisting · 05/03/2022 12:24

I was once behind someone who spent over a grand in primark! there was a huge queue building up behind them and everyone was Shock when they announced the total!

Noname1999 · 05/03/2022 12:27

Yours must be better than mine. I always intend to spend money, but rarely spend more than £5 in our local shop.

EducatingArti · 05/03/2022 12:31

I have Home Bargains, Lidl and The Range just across the road!!!
I try to be disciplined!

RumJerrySailorRum · 05/03/2022 12:31

Ah, the old pop in for washing up liquid and £80 later you've got a trolley full of random shit you didn't know you needed but absolutely can not live without!!

Yellowsubhubabubbub · 05/03/2022 12:35

@Phormiumjester hahahahahahahahhahaaa

OP it was maybe my DMIL. She always comes out shell shocked and having spent a fortune … Grin

mydogisthebest · 05/03/2022 12:36

Me and DH go to Home Bargains at least once a month and always spend a fortune.

We buy all the food for the birds that visit our garden there and that alone costs a lot - peanuts, fat balls, suet pellets, bird seed, sunflowers, suet blocks.

We buy most of our cleaning stuff there, most of our shower gels, toothpaste etc.

We also buy quite a lot of food and drink there.

Our local one is massive and has a brilliant outside gardening area. We regularly spend a fortune on plants

It's lethal
Saying that I went out for milk and bought a sofa, and the last time I was bored and went for a walk I bought a new flat so.. Blush

Staryflight445 · 05/03/2022 12:48

I always go in for something specific, come out £80 later without the thing I went in for.

stripeyflowers · 05/03/2022 12:49

All the shelves were emptied, then? Grin

isthismylifenow · 05/03/2022 12:49

I dont know these shops, are they new as I lived in UK many years ago and don't remember any of them mentioned. Except Aldi 😊

I went to a small cosmetic shop and there was a woman in front of me who had a tiny little gift bag, and I saw the total on the till screen, equivalent of 1700 pounds! I was next and asked the teller what was in that tiny bag that was so expensive. La Prarie moisturizers... And then he said, oh that's nothing, she comes in every month, but this month she must be on a budget 😂

I do have a bit of a problem in our Boots equivalent shop. I have to go in every month to collect a prescription. I never ever leave with just the prescription, as much as I tell myself I will.

And it's even worse if my teen dd is with me.

2022IamHavingYa · 05/03/2022 12:50

I need to go to B&M later for a kids birthday present and some nite books and pens… wish me luck!

Cheermonger · 05/03/2022 12:50

@Phormiumjester

My husband calls it The Fifty Quid Shop
Haha yes
Staryflight445 · 05/03/2022 12:51

B&M has been around for a very long time, at least 17 years.
I think they changed their name slightly though?

There are tonnes of them now!
Home bargains has been around for at least 14-15 years too.

@isthismylifenow

The range is new though.

Robloxia · 05/03/2022 12:53

@Gingernaut

We've got an HB next to a Wilko's in our town centre high street.

In the out of town retail park we have a B&M, HB, an Aldi AND a TK MAXX

There should be laws against it.

I used to work in a small town centre that was literally just poundshops and places like B&M, Home Bargains and Wilkos.

When I went on maternity, I saved so much money because I wasn't spending so much money on tat in there everyday.

bellsbuss · 05/03/2022 12:56

I only go if I really need to go now, I would go to home bargains or B and M during lockdown out of boredom and come out £100-£200 lighter Blush
