How many loads of washing for a house of 2?

catfunk · 03/03/2022 18:17

We usually have 4 ...

1x darks
1x lights inc 2 bath towels
1x bedding
1x socks pants boxers which get tumble dried
In winter a wool wash every other week.

Is this excessive for 2 adults in one house? All done on eco setting but lights are 60 degrees eco.
I keep seeing posters saying they only do one load a week - how ? My bedding and towels would be an extra load!

One towels,
One bedding
One delicates
One basic stuff

Bubblesandsqueak1 · 03/03/2022 19:39

3 of us 3 loads a week, lights towels and polo's, darks x2 includes bedding

AnnaMagnani · 03/03/2022 19:42

1x towels and bedding
1x everything else

Got rid of all the whites, made everything a lot easier.

Not enough woollens to justify a once a week wash and real wool doesn't need washing that often anyway.

PuzzledObserver · 03/03/2022 19:46

1 lights and 1 darks each week.

Bedding and towels once a fortnight or so, but bedding is 2 loads because the high thread count king size duvet cover is a load on its own Grin. So 7 loads per fortnight.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 03/03/2022 19:51

A load a day. Always something that needs washing

fallfallfall · 03/03/2022 19:55

i do bedding less often, say every two weeks and huge duvets twice a year and even duvet covers less than monthly.
i have a small basket and when it's full i do laundry, i'll walk around collect bath and dish towels and dish rags to top it up.
soooo how many times a week?

2 times unless i'm doing the bedding.

i wash in cold and don't bother separating stuff.

Fundays12 · 03/03/2022 19:57

When it was just me and DH I did about 6 to 8 loads a week but we went to the gym etc.

Quamora · 03/03/2022 20:00

I’ve never understood this about wool, everyone says it but I’ve always found mine still absorbs cooking smells for eg so even after airing it I end up washing it! What am I doing wrong?
GreyCarpet · 03/03/2022 20:00

Teenage daughter and me.

1 x bed linen
2 x colours
1 x whites

Weekly.

1 x towels fortnightly.
1 x delicates fortnightly

Probably.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/03/2022 20:01

Can easily do 4 a day tbh Grin

itssquidstella · 03/03/2022 20:09

DH and I usually do three: one normal clothes, one sports kit (we do a lot of sport/go to the gym very regularly) and one towels/bedding.

Futurequ · 03/03/2022 20:16

I feel like I’m doing an excessive load of washing now but I end up doing about one each day.

Two adults and a toddler
Bedding x 1 week
Towels x1 week
Darks x 2 week
Lights x 1 week
Gym/swimming stuff x1 week
Cleaning cloths/ tea towels etc every couple of weeks.

DH works out daily, sometimes twice a day if part of work. We both have uniform for work, and DH’s is quite bulky taking up room.
When he is away for work I probably do 6 loads across a fortnight for me and DS.

INeedNewShoes · 03/03/2022 20:25

1x lights
1x darks 40 degrees
1x gentle 30 degrees
1x towels or bedding (alternate weeks)

That’s for me and one (attracts grub) DC

catfunk · 03/03/2022 21:08

@peboh

I do find it a bit odd you're doing socks, pants and boxers on their own instead of just throwing them in with your other loads.
@peboh it's because my dryer is a crappy washer dryer one so it's a nice small ish load and dries well. I don't like having loads of boxers and pants hanging around the flat so prefer to tumble dry them.

@pradavilla

When it was just 2 of us we usually did 5-6 a week so I'd say ur on low side. My dh work stuff wld take up 2 loads and towels one and bedding an another then j guess all my stuff and dh from wkend would make up the other 2 loads.

I have 2 young kids now and I think we must do about 12-14 a week 🙈

Eh??? Really!
catfunk · 03/03/2022 21:12

@Clairefraser amazed that you get away with one a week. Does this include all clothing, towels, bedding etc ?

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 03/03/2022 21:15

Two adults plus a dog here. We both work mucky, physical jobs so it's fresh clothes daily.

We have a small washer dryer and we do:

1 x bedding
2 x towels (won't fit in one load)
2 x dog blankets
3 x clothes (we don't separate, just wash whenever needed)
1 x waterproofs (on their own as they need proper tech wash and cleaner).

catfunk · 03/03/2022 21:15

Maybe don't need to do bedding every week as we don't sleep in the nip. but I would still Chuck the pillow cases in. Hair wax and head sweat Confused

Averages at 3x a week, very occasionally twice a week. Although, some of our coats are washed if obviously needed in the winter, I do wash all the washable ones during a hot week - we have quite a few, so washing machine will be on most days then.

CIaireFraser · 03/03/2022 21:21

Very occasionally I'll need to do two but yes, that's everything. Since DH started wfh he gets through far fewer clothes (when he was in the office he wore a fresh outfit daily). I don't work and rarely leave the house so I don't get through a lot either. A couple of towels a week and bedding every other week.

Soontobe60 · 03/03/2022 21:31

2 adults here. We do 3 or 4 loads a week. Change bedding every 2 weeks, launder towels every 2 weeks. 1 darks 1 lights every week.

ChoiceMummy · 03/03/2022 21:39
@SheWoreYellow I could but I hate having loads of pants abs socks hung around everywhere so I tumble them separately 😂
A waste of electricity though.

Can you not just buy one of the hanging leg dryers? They're great, I hang it up in the morning in the bathroom and dry by afternoon even in winter. Also great on lines.

I do: whites Inc towels , darks, lights every 10 days, and then the bedding fortnightly.

Isababybel · 03/03/2022 22:09

I did 5 or 6 loads a week when it was just DH and I.

NowEvenBetter · 03/03/2022 22:16

One a week.
I don’t separate darks and lights, bedding washed every 2 weeks and goes in with clothes.
Towels set aside till there’s enough for a towel load (no fabric softener)once a month or longer.

Hercisback · 03/03/2022 22:30

2 a week when there was two of us.
1 lights/bedding
1 darks

Now there's 4 of us probably 5 per week average. Some weeks it's 3 and in the summer it can be more as I tend to wash betting and towels more often when they're easier to dry.
