Russian moggies banned from competing

Viviennemary · 03/03/2022 10:20

The International Cat federation has banned Russian cats and Russian bred cats from competing. Good call!

OP posts:
ABitBesotted · 03/03/2022 12:52

That'll teach em

DoubleHelix79 · 03/03/2022 13:12

@garlicandsapphires

He likes dogs apparently
There was an infamous incident a few years ago when Putin hosted Angela Merkel for a diplomativ visit. Merkel has a well known phobia of dogs. Putin deliberately let in his huge dogs and seemed to really enjoy Merkel's unease. What a jerk.
ABitBesotted · 03/03/2022 13:15

Definitely a dog person.

@NaiceHamAndHugs

Putin definitely would be a cat person. You can tell.

Seems ott

WetLookKnitwear · 03/03/2022 13:24

I doubt the cats would mind.

Also since when do cats compete for anything?? I thought their thing was more “make people compete to do things for cat”

SmellyOldOwls · 03/03/2022 13:44

Aw. My cats Vladimir and Alesksandr will be so disappointed.

SmellyOldOwls · 03/03/2022 13:45

@GizmosEveningBath

Hmm, this virtue signalling seems to be tipping into xenophobia pretty quickly. I feel for the innocent Russians who have had nothing to do with Putin's actions.
Me too actually, it's awful for them.
KatherineJaneway · 03/03/2022 13:54

@zafferana

Well that should really make Putin sit up and take notice Hmm
LOL
balalake · 03/03/2022 13:54

If you are going to have cultural sanctions alongside humanitarian aid and economic sanctions, then events such as cat shows should be included in exclusion of Russian competitors.

KatherineJaneway · 03/03/2022 14:01

@Shehasadiamondinthesky

Were the cats planning on invading Poland?
You never know ...
Beamur · 03/03/2022 14:06

All of these sanctions are tough on the innocent people (and moggies) caught by them, but it's an important signal to those in charge. We don't want to get pulled into a fight but economic and cultural sanctions can be applied.

CBFA · 03/03/2022 14:07

This has got nothing to do with anti-Russian xenophobia 😂 it's about getting people pissed off and overthrowing Putin if he carries on this
dreadful economic catastrophe and isolationism

Juno22 · 03/03/2022 14:09

It's ridiculous. I'm all for sanctions against their government and the oligarchs but it's spilling over into xenophobia affecting ordinary Russian people. I heard a man on the radio this morning who said that his 8 year old son is being bullied (his wife is Russian). That's awful but it's starting to happen.

GeidiPrimes · 03/03/2022 14:10

A win for the cats Smile

Cats don't like being judged by humans in competitions really.

Rosehugger · 03/03/2022 14:11

Yes, I agree that the general xenophobia is ridiculous. Also I bet Polish and Ukranian people are getting hassled for being Russian by some idiots - doubly awful.

GeidiPrimes · 03/03/2022 14:12

And yeah, the xenophobia is pretty rife atm. I wish people would read news stories properly and not believe all the propaganda.

oncemoreunto · 03/03/2022 14:17

Russia is being systematically excluded from standard international cultural life because they have invaded a European neighbor.

This is very sad for individual Russians but there are a limited number of ways for the rest of the world and Europe in particular to object to Russian aggression.

The cats I imagine will be perfectly happy with not being taken to shows.

Daenerys77 · 03/03/2022 14:19

@zafferana

No, authoritarians are always dog people. They can’t cope with the insolence from cats.

This^. No way could an authoritation cope with the 'fuck you' attitude of cats. They need the fawning adoration and desperate need to please of dogs.

Exactly. A dog can be trained to love you, no matter how dreadful a person you are. That is not an admirable quality in my view.
wearingtheT · 03/03/2022 14:20

It's not xenophobia, its sanctions! As I tell my children if you can't play nicely, no one will play with you.

He needs overthrowing, by his own people.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 03/03/2022 14:24

@Ghastlyghoul

Were the cats planning on invading Poland? . I wouldn’t trust mine to not be planning that.

?

Sooooo.... Russia hasn't really invaded Ukraine then?

this virtue signalling seems to be tipping into xenophobia pretty quickly. I feel for the innocent Russians who have had nothing to do with Putin's actions.

Yeah, I remember when poor South Africa used to get treated the same because of apartheid. And there is the terrible xenephobic treatments of Iran over a few kidnaps.

Has anyone even tried asking Putin nicely?

GeidiPrimes · 03/03/2022 14:52

Sooooo.... Russia hasn't really invaded Ukraine then?

Certainly according to the newspapers Smile

It's not as clear-cut as that though. USA have been prodding for a long time. I'm sure they'd have something to say if russian bases were installed in a neighboring country.

Exactly. I think that however people can show their support for Ukraine and their disdain for putin is very welcome-regardless of how small.

Obviously this move won't hurt Putin but it's a show of support.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/03/2022 15:14

@KaptainKaveman

Putin IS a dog.
Please don’t insult dogs!
