I’m listening to Wahala by Nikki May.

It’s pretty good! A bit slow to begin with. Anyone else read/listened to Wahala?

Any recommendations for my next book?

Girl. Woman, Other or Miriam Margoyles’ autobiography

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 01/03/2022 23:01

Katherine, by Anya Seton and Little Women, Louisa M Alcott. Katherine is my favourite book in the whole world and I've read it 34675 times, so thought it would be nice to have it read to me for a change. It is not quite as nice as I hoped.

The murderers son by Joy Ellis

Just finished Again Rachel by Marian Keyes and it was delightful- like visiting family you have t seen for a while. (Read or listen to Rachel's Holiday if you're haven't already first )

The Heart's Invisible Furies is the best book I've listened to on Audible. The narrator is brilliant.

D0lphine · 01/03/2022 23:33

True blood... in my defence I need something nice and brainless hahaha

sanityisamyth · 01/03/2022 23:45

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

SlightlyJaded · 01/03/2022 23:47

Best audibles of the year so far (for book and narration) have been:

A Fine Balance - brilliant novel and one of the best narrations I've ever listened to

Hamnet - love Maggie O'Farrell anyway, and really enjoyed the measured narration of this.

And all the Dublin Murder Squad series are really well narrated.

PeggyGa · 01/03/2022 23:47

Will Smith autobiography - surprisingly good

Second this as well. Wonderful book.

Complete George Smiley with Simon Russell Beale - I could listen to him reading the phone book. 26 hours of Cold War heaven.

Sandman vol 1&2 (with 3 still to come) produced by the radio drama genius Dirk Maggs. The BBC productions of Gaiman's other books also created by him.

Kenneth Branagh readings Samuel Pepys' diaries.

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 01/03/2022 23:51

Just starting the Eye of the World (first book in the wheel of time series) - recommendation by my friend as we both have a soft spot for fantasy. 32 hours long so should keep me going a while!

Most enjoyable recently was Jurassic Park - I'd never read it & listening to it (particularly when running!) was really something!! 🦖

MaidEdithofAragon · 01/03/2022 23:54

Clockwork Orange.... extraordinary narration by Tom Hollander. Wonderful

Downtherefordancing · 01/03/2022 23:59

I like autobiographies. Just finished Mark Steel’s book - Who Do I Think I Am? about finding his birth mother. Loved it.

Now listening to Alexei Sayle’s book - Stalin ate my homework. Funny and surprising

Briefs Encountered, written and narrated by Julian Clary. One of the few authors who can read their works.

The editor should have gone over the overuse of “gaze” and “stare”, but these are mere cavils in a delightful novel.

LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana · 02/03/2022 06:19

Miriam Margoles "This much is true".

Hippywannabe · 02/03/2022 06:25

I have a couple on the go - Atomic Habits by James Clear (amazing book and something I really needed to read at this moment in time)

The other one is - Ghosts of the Tsunami by Richard Lloyd Parry.

Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown
Might be her best book yet. I love listening to her voice and hearing it throughout the day when I recall what she said.

WaterTheBasil · 02/03/2022 07:34

@Imsittinginthekitchensink

I'm also listening to Katherine. However, that's because I've tried and failed twice to read it...and I am named after it. Shock
