I’m listening to Wahala by Nikki May.

It’s pretty good! A bit slow to begin with. Anyone else read/listened to Wahala?

Any recommendations for my next book?

Jk Rowling's first strike novel.

@EdwinsActsOfKindness

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. Am really enjoying it. Even DH and DD have started listening in when I have it on!
I enjoyed it very much. Probably my favourite audiobook ever.
echt · 02/03/2022 22:05

I’m another one who buys the audio on the strength of the reader. I’d buy “Mr Pip”, in a heartbeat, but the Audible version is atrocious, Bolinda having the rights on the version read by Jennifer Vuletic.

I think I've got the Lady in Waiting book on Audible. Might try it tonight.

I really enjoyed the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths. Can anyone recommend anything similar to that?? I've got loads of credits and haven't spent enough time trying to find anything to listen to.

Vargas · 02/03/2022 22:11

I recently enjoyed The Secret History read (and written) by Donna Tartt. And Billy Summers by Stephen King.

@ParalysisByAnalysis

Lady in Waiting by Anna Glenconner, beautifully read by her too. Fascinating and addictive, highly recommended. Makes me look forward to my commute!

I read this before Wahala. It’s bonkers!! I thoroughly enjoyed it, much more than I thought I would.

Ha! Bonkers is right! But what an insight into a bonkers world! I have just finished the Mustique chapter...
milski · 02/03/2022 22:14

The rise and fall of the third reich. I like my non-fiction...unless it's Robert Galbraith!

LadyEggs · 02/03/2022 22:20

I've just finished A Line to Kill by Anthony Horowitz (I've loved all of his books) and now starting The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman. I can recommend them both.

LoveFall · 02/03/2022 22:20

Michelle Obama's "Becoming" is read by her. I really enjoyed it.

LadyOfMisrule · 02/03/2022 22:21

Falco

ResearchQueen · 02/03/2022 22:21

I enjoyed that too LoveFall.

ThankYouDebbie · 02/03/2022 22:24

Chiwetel Ejiofor reading Piranesi is my favourite audio book to date. Absolutely loved it.

SaberToothKitten · 02/03/2022 22:26

Mick Herron's Slough House series. Absolutely brilliant failed spies. Love them all so far!

Agreed

I really want to listen to Hamnet but the narration doesn't work for me at all

farnworth · 03/03/2022 08:22

Miss Fortune series. Easy listening and funny.
Book 1 was good and I instantly bought book 2.
I have cried with laughter (including when out walking to the bemusement of passers by ...🙄) - marvellous escapism.

Also recommend Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty for distraction - kept me hooked.

sairiegamp · 03/03/2022 10:47

Audible is my saviour and I spend way way too much time with it.

Timothy West reading anything by Anthony Trollop. Sheer heaven.

Jonathan Keeble reading the first half of Cornwell's Last Kingdom (they they changed the bloody reader!)

Almost finished Rupert Farley's superb reading of Conwell's Sharpe series.

I also liked Rose Tremain's music and silence, and Restoration, and A Place of Greater safety.

SlightlyJaded · 03/03/2022 12:57

@KateTheEighth

I loved Hamnet on Audible. The narration took a while for me to adjust to - it felt too contemporary initially, but in the end, it really worked.

SlightlyJaded · 03/03/2022 12:59

Also

I know I've mentioned it up thread, but if anyone of here has never read A Fine Balance - it is the best Audible I've ever listened to. It's an amazing book anyway, but the narrator was so good that I sought him out on Twitter and thanked him (he was very nice in his reply too). I never do shit like that but it was amazing.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/03/2022 13:04

I'm listening to a history of the Plantagenets, written and read by Dan Jones - I listen to an audiobook at bedtime, to help me fall asleep, and I find him very soporific, so my next book will be his history of the Wars of the Roses.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/03/2022 13:07

Rachel Again - I like so far.

Egghead68 · 03/03/2022 13:08

Jonathon strange and mr Norell. It’s taking me a while to get into

Egghead68 · 03/03/2022 13:09

Just finished Piranesi which was good

KateTheEighth · 03/03/2022 13:31

@SlightlyJaded

Thank you! I will give it a go Smile
