Pancake judgement...who knew?!

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 01/03/2022 10:13

Work with about 30 people and decided to do something nice and offered to make pancakes for everyone today.

Spoke to boss and authorised some petty cash for ingredients and I brought in various toppings I had at home.

Emailed everyone letting them know and what toppings I'd have and said that if people wanted anything specific or had toppings they wanted to share to bring them in as I only had what I had outlined.

Today, already, I've had 5 different conversations with people either complaining that I don't have their favourite topping, that the toppings I have aren't the right quality (ie own brand golden syrup) etc. One guy is in a strop because I haven't brought in honey, but have golden syrup as an alternative. Apparently shows I have poor taste. Wtf! Why am I bothering??

Oh yeah, if you want to find out how ungrateful people are, give them free stuff

I used to work vaguely in corporate events and it was AWFUL. The worst were staff parties which people would just moan and moan about. Always stuff that the team couldn’t change - things like what the DJ was playing, the temperature of plates, people would always ask for a different option when they saw it coming past etc.

I literally wanted to shout THIS IS FREE BE GRATEFUL OR FUCK OFF YOU NOOB

Cheeky fuckers. I hope you have the balls to send an email afterwards to say it's probably best you don't do it next year because of twatty attitudes.

BarbaraofSeville · 01/03/2022 10:19

You could have done it in the true spirit of pancake day so asked people to bring in whatever flour, sugar, eggs, honey etc etc from home to use up, rather than buying new ingredients.

Then no-one could moan at you about not providing the 'correct' ingredients, because that's not what pancake day is about at all.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 01/03/2022 10:20

I'll still make the pancakes, after all, work has paid for them. But I'll keep all my toppings in my desk and have GLORIOUS pancakes while they have plain ones Halo

Why are you bothering? Do you not have anything better to do at work?

Most people will be using their own stuff for the families later on as the majority have kids. Didn't seem fair to ask everyone to bring stuff in. Guaranteed we'd end up with 29 bags of flour, a lemon and no eggs.

Did you miss the OP? She said she has absolutely no work to do whatsoever other than be everyone’s little pancake bitch. It’s a role which is only useful once a year but she really comes in to her own then.

They're tossers! lol I know

Ungrateful sods.
I once invited friends to a pancake night at home and someone emailed back 'can I bring my own mix, as I prefer American pancakes to the slightly slimy British kind.'
I bit my tongue and said 'bring what you like' but I still slightly wish I'd told her she was welcome to go to another pancake night if she thought my pancakes were going to be 'slimy'.

HeadingForHome · 01/03/2022 10:33

Please come round to mine after work to make the pancakes for the entire HeadingForHome family 🙏 you sound awesome.

I promise that only the 3 year old will complain bitterly. The rest of us will be grateful.

Why not! Only if you provide your own toppings though!

Seems my talents aren't being appreciated at the office and no doubt my 5 year old will have gone off pancakes by the time I get home...

No lemon and sugar Wink
Honestly people will complain no matter what! Maybe I do to, as I am a person. I like to think I don't though. In fact I know I don't I went to a friends house age 8ish, her older sister gave me a tomato cut in two for dinner, I said thank you and started to eat it. They laughed at me and said they were joking.

In my defence, we have lemons and sugar in the kitchen anyways at the hot drinks station so we were covered there.

Ah, but what sugar?
My teen has instructed me to make sure we have icing sugar. This will be for a TikTok worthy dusting, no doubt.
She’d fit in well with your colleagues 🤣

Cocomarine · 01/03/2022 11:04

Oh and maple syrup, which needs to be really thin mum, NOT thick.
See - she’s one of yours OP 🤣

A voluntary group I sometimes help with has been given some money to start getting older people out and about in the community after Covid. We're offering lots of free events —everything from pottery, professionally guided walks, art classes, electric bike rides, guided organised day trips to a couple of local cities — all sorts of interesting opportunities. It's all free and they get transport and lunch free too.

I've never heard so much complaining in my life. We took a group of nine to a pottery studio where they learned to make their own mugs and bowls. We travelled in a luxurious bus, there was good-quality tea and coffee and drinks and biscuits and we laid on individual packed lunches that took into account all their allergies and gluten-free and low carb requirements. If they'd organised it themselves they would have paid £100+ a head. Three of them had a great time and were very grateful for the opportunity but the rest complained about everything. I couldn't believe how ungrateful they are.

Seriouslymole · 01/03/2022 11:08

@cocomarine 😮😮😮 icing sugar??! That sounds very, very wrong.

That said my DD has either cheese or peanut butter on hers which feels like sacrilege.

DrSbaitso · 01/03/2022 11:10

I don't know. Why?
