...strawberry sherbets, or Yorkshire Mixture. But they make one's mouth sore so I might have to get some toffees - mint, treacle or rum butter - to scoff afterwards.

What will you have from the sweet shop ? Don't worry about the cost, or your teeth. MNHQ is picking up the shop and dental bills for everyone.

I wish Callard and Bowser toffees were still with us. Walker's Nonsuch are quite good but no substitute. Likewise, Toffos were great and conveniently packaged in roll form.

Let's make it that I'm ten years old so that we can have the proper old style recipes, and I can eat them without worrying about what's in them. I'd like:
Midget Gems
Floral Gums
Sweet Peanuts
Strawberry bon bons

I too have a shop nearby that sells this stuff, but either the sweets or my taste buds are not the same.

There's probably less sugar and nasty additives and colourings these days.

My brother liked midget gems but, to me, they were just a fun-size version of wine gums, which I considered to be very grown-up at the age of eight!

Ooh, @LadySpratt, I remember the Pink Panther bars, they were lovely.

Runnerduck34 · 27/02/2022 23:25

Lemon bonbons

Cherrysoup · 27/02/2022 23:31

Sweet peanuts, liquorice and blackcurrant. Chocolate limes.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 27/02/2022 23:35

Oh my word.

Pear drops or Cola Cubes.

But we had some orange/red/yellow fish sweets in a jar around 1969-1970. They used to stick together. It was a school treat to be given them. I've never seen them since or heard anyone mention them.

Mint Cracknel, Ice Breaker and Old Jamaica chocolate (gave me a rum addiction in later life).

OnTheBoardwalk · 27/02/2022 23:39

Pineapple cubes please. I ordered some online during lockdown and they were awful. They were tasteless, soggy and not nice

Can you also get me some chocolate limes? I’m hoping the chocolate in them hasnt been replaced with palm oil nastiness

mrsbyers · 28/02/2022 00:06

Acid drops

2018SoFarSoGreat · 28/02/2022 04:09

Jazzies! Every post brings back a memory of the flavor, color and texture of them all!

Lemon bonbons
Jazzies
Coconut mushrooms

autienotnaughty · 28/02/2022 04:49

Peanut brittle can't have it any more as my fillings would fall out.

Notmuchever · 28/02/2022 05:02

Cinnamon lozenges.
Got me through long Sunday church services back in the 80s. They were like polo mints, it was acceptable to quietly offer them around at church and suck one throughout the service!

Otherwise floral gums for me please.

BakerMan · 28/02/2022 05:45

I can see my childhood sweet shop in my mind now.

Chocolate mice
Icy cups
Sweet peanuts
Barley sugar
Coconut mushrooms

DeathWinsAGolfish · 28/02/2022 05:54

Potefract cakes
Cough candy twist
