Fresh hell of world book day without characters

So apparently it's a thing now to dress up as an object, but not a character for world book day. Thank you America. The supermarkets are no help as they only have characters in their fancy dress. Son (Y1) wants to go as a trampoline. So that's great. Any ideas? It needs to be easy as I'm beyond crap at craft/sewing, he'll need to be able to do lessons in it, needs to survive playtime, the rain and toilet trips. Google is no help as it just suggests what someone should wear for a costume party to go trampolining/what to wear to a trampoline park. Oh and I stupidly thought I had until Wednesday as didn't note the date had changed to Monday. Feel like I've spent more time than I want to on this already and I've achieved exactly nothing!

Tell him no! A trampoline is impossible. Get him to pick something you can actually achieve.

mumofEandE · 26/02/2022 20:05

Tell him he blew away last week in the storm!

NuffSaidSam · 26/02/2022 20:07

Get a photo of a trampoline and stick it to his front. Or make a cardboard sandwich board for him to wear with a big picture of a trampoline on the front and back.

And question the school about what on earth the value of this is.

Print out a big photo and stick it to a t-shirt. Thankfully it is still characters here!

bellac11 · 26/02/2022 20:08

He could go as a cardboard box, just stick a hole in the top of a box.

HopefulProcrastinator · 26/02/2022 20:09

Face paint. I'd literally dress him in whatever outfit then paint a trampoline on his face in those colours.

So if he's wearing black bottoms and red top his trampoline face is black frame with red bouncy bit.

Aworldofmyown · 26/02/2022 20:10

This year, we are dressing up as vocabulary. We are being punished for something 🤦‍♀️

HerbertLemon · 26/02/2022 20:12

What in the name of all that is bonkers is this? Is the object supposed to relate to a book? I don’t understand.
I’d just pick a plain coloured outfit from what you have already and go as one of the crayons from The Day The Crayons Quit.

PineForestsAndSunshine · 26/02/2022 20:13

Black t-shirt over black trousers, or white t-shirt over white trousers. Use coloured tape to make a large cross shape on his chest and back like often seen on the trampolines at trampoline parks.

Could you just send them in with NO written across their foreheads? Or would that be too passive-aggressive?
gasty · 26/02/2022 20:15

Print a picture of a trampoline & pin it to a white tshirt

Keep them off and say they're 'absent'.
DuesToTheDirt · 26/02/2022 20:15

Is the trampoline from a particular book? What on earth is the relevance to World Book Day? Confused

Paperyfish · 26/02/2022 20:15

We have to dress up as “science” next week for science week and world book day the week after. All the guidance I have is “something science” wtf?!
You have my sympathies.
Make two small swing seats from cardboard. Use wool or string to hang them from his arms. When he sticks his arms out to the side like a scarecrow -ta da!!!- he’s a swing set!

carry around a bottle of water labelled h20

viques · 26/02/2022 20:16

Old t shirt. Write BOING! on the front and back .Tell him to jump a lot.

Legoisthebest · 26/02/2022 20:17

Sorry but what has this got to do with America who don't have this World Book Day event (it's a UK and Ireland thing).
Contact the school and say "I'm sorry but this change was too late notice. Can my child come in the book related character costumethey had already chosen and created/non uniform/uniform* instead?"
*whichever is relevant
Also ask "are the children still recieving their free book voucher as my child is very excited to be getting a new book"
Use the word book a lot to remind them it's World Book Day not World Object Day.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/02/2022 20:18

Oh God, what fresh hell is this? I only have one more child left in primary, hopefully my school is running four years behind this madness.

SeasonFinale · 26/02/2022 20:19

The US does have World Book Day as my niece is a kindergarten teacher and always dresses up for it too

How about a thermometer? Red trousers and a white t shirt with lines drawn on for the temperature gauge and a red line up the middle to a certain point.

Sorry can't help with the trampoline though sorry.

Hedonism · 26/02/2022 20:21

Oh good lord. I thought a book character was bad enough.

Legoisthebest · 26/02/2022 20:23

SeasonFinale I googled it yesterday because of another thread.
Apparently the original World Book Day was created by the UN and is celebrated on April 23rd. UK and Ireland decided to change the date to March.
So yes...I expect many schools in America to take part.
I just was completely baffled by the OPs comment about blaming America for this dress up as an object thing?
I really don't think they can be blamed for this Grin

BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 26/02/2022 20:26

Some of these are v amusing!
Nothing needs to link to a book which is bizarre.

I'm not sure school would be too impressed with the vocabulary I would be using
