Going on from a previous thread what is the worst car you have ever owned & what are your reasons?

So I know to stay clear lol!

Mine was my first car a Fiat Tipo.
I loved it as it was my 1st car but that thing would not start!! Petrol gauge was broke too. It was a right shed!

@Handsnotwands

Hyundai pony. It was bad.
Pony by name, pony by nature!
Ifeellikedancing · 26/02/2022 21:54

Renault 5 tc (total crap). Awful car. I loved it but it did not love me back!

Ifeellikedancing · 26/02/2022 21:55

Although I also had a fiat panto which was also fucking awful! 2 gearboxes in 19,000 miles. Pile of shite.

Whiteminnowfish · 26/02/2022 21:57

Renault Clio. Spent a fortune on that car

ButteryNuts · 26/02/2022 21:59

Range Rover. Bought new but there was always something that needed fixing - for a very high cost!

My brother had a Range Rover and he bloody hated it.
Shade17 · 26/02/2022 22:04

I currently drive a Renault Megane and it's been brilliant, had it from new for 3 years now, probably the oldest car I've had for a long time but it's a very high BHP GT

Since when has a Megane GT been very high BHP?

coronafiona · 26/02/2022 22:06

Renault Clio, 25 years ago. Horrible to drive the heaviest clutch ever!

Cuck00soup · 26/02/2022 22:09

@ButtockUp

Renault Laguna. Failed the MOT every year and broke down several times in between. The cost of repairs was eye watering and , annoyingly, our wonderful mechanics were never able to diagnose the problems as we had to go to a dealership ( miles away) for a very expensive diagnostic first , which always seemed to need an all day stay or , once, an overnight stay as they were busy. They had the bloody cheek to charge us for "parking" on their premises , by the hour!!!

Yep. £1,100 for a new headlamp. Mrs Soup.

MacauliflowerCulkin · 26/02/2022 22:36

Entry model Citroen DS3. Plastic as hell. Slower than a teenager getting up in the morning.

Mini Cooper S.

Bastard thing constantly has oil leaks.
Piston went at junction 4 on the M3. I was young and naive and determined to get it to Cornwall and managed to get to Stonehenge a piston down before the bastard engine literally blew up.

Had BMWs since and they've never, ever touch wood let me down!

@FatFredsFriedEgg

1993 Mondeo Estate 1.8TD. It had the acceleration and cornering ability of a narrowboat.

I'm eternally grateful to whoever stole it from me 4 months after I bought it.

@FatFredsFriedEgg

Our worst ever was also a diesel Mondeo estate, but a bit newer than yours - 04 plate I think. I wish someone had stolen ours!

We paid something like £4k for it and spent about as much again replacing clutch/flywheel twice. I think we had it about a year and finally the mechanic who serviced all our family’s cars took pity on us and bought it off us for about £1k.

After that we bought a nearly new Kia, with the 7-year warranty. The lack of anxiety was blissful!

Duvetdweller · 26/02/2022 22:50

A brand new Range Rover sport that must have had every single component on it replaced under warranty - and then another £6k just after warranty so I could sell it. Pile of crap

SockFluffInTheBath · 26/02/2022 22:57

Lot of love for Renault here 🤣 I’ve had 2- neither was great but the Jetta was still worse. I had a 3yo scenic whose headlights would randomly turn off while driving (not great on unlit twisty country lanes) and a Clio from new with temperamental electric windows.

user1497207191 · 26/02/2022 23:01

Vauxhall Astra - the only car I had for less than a year. Only 2 years old and low mileage but constant problems with not starting, all kinds of electrical faults. It was in the garage more than on the road. Couldn’t wait to get rid of the damn thing.

OhWhyNot · 26/02/2022 23:03

Peugeot 206

Was like a tin box on wheels. It would start to rattle when driving on the motorway once I had 60mph

Another car slightly knocked mine and the whole door buckled Hmm

allupsidedown · 26/02/2022 23:10

Austin Metro, it was the first car I bought. It was ok for a couple of months then things started going wrong. By the time it went for an MOT the only things that passed were the tyres, wipers and the handbrake. It failed on everything else. I asked the fire brigade to collect it. They used it to practice cutting people out of cars. It saved me paying to get it towed to the scrap yard!

Darklane · 26/02/2022 23:13

Triumph Dolomite…the thing was always breaking down, usually when I was in the middle of nowhere before the advent of mobile phones.

1dayatatime · 26/02/2022 23:53

Least reliable were various incarnations of Land Rovers - I remember one occasion where the wind screen motor went in the pissing rain and a two hour motorway drive from home.

After waiting several hours in a motorway services for the rain to pass (it didn't) finally rigged up the wipers with a loop of binder twine that went in the passenger and drivers side windows and the passenger literally pulled the binder twine back and forth for an hour on the way home before the rain finally eased off.

Most reliable / dependable / indestructible / pleasing and made me the happiest was / is a Toyota Hilux.

Bohemianwannabe · 27/02/2022 00:03

Yep Renault scenic pile of poo will never ever ever buy a French car ever again

caranations · 27/02/2022 00:14

Few years back now - an Alpha Romeo Boxer. Horrid, heavy awkward thing to drive, and it wasn't all that keen to start in the mornings. ex-dh always used to flood it, and would call me out every bloody day to get it started. I had the knack, and he didn't. Ironic really since it was his company car. Glad to see the back of it. And him.

Africa2go · 27/02/2022 00:19

Renault Clio. Needed £1500 worth of repairs - 3 days outside of

Africa2go · 27/02/2022 00:23

warranty. this was 20yrs ago. £1500 was 5 months mortgage payments!

Nikki360 · 27/02/2022 00:51

Renault Clio leak from sunroof was a nightmare.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 27/02/2022 00:57

I had a Ford Ka as a courtesy car once and it was awful but my friend's new Fiat 126 was the worst new car I have ever encountered. It was perpetually broken and I ferried her to and from the garage monthly in my elderly wreck of a car.

StillMedusa · 27/02/2022 01:07

Ford Capri... DH's pride and joy... god I hated that car!
I smashed it into a set of temporary traffic lights and it still wouldn't die!

Had to carry a lump hammer to hit the starter motor every time we stopped... that was fun when 8 months pregnant!
