The worst car you've ever owned?

Going on from a previous thread what is the worst car you have ever owned & what are your reasons?

So I know to stay clear lol!

Mine was my first car a Fiat Tipo.
I loved it as it was my 1st car but that thing would not start!! Petrol gauge was broke too. It was a right shed!

Oh, and a loan car - mine had been driven into in a car park so I was loaned an equivalent - a Fiesta Sport. It was supposed to be 'the dog's bollocks' and boy racers loved them. I happened to be helping my mum move while I had it and the removal men were practically salivation over it - until I pointed out that yes, the acceleration was brilliant, but for the first 2 or 3 seconds after you put your foot down, it felt like it was dancing over the road until it sat down and behaved itself.

carben · 26/02/2022 19:07

No Skoda's I'm glad to see. Likely to be proved wrong now I've mentioned them though 🤣. As a counterbalance - love my Karoq.

fussychica · 26/02/2022 19:18

Our first brand new car. So excited to get it. Mk2 Ford Fiesta, total lemon. Selling it in part exchange for a Citroën AX which we adored.
Drove Citroëns for the next 23 years and have never bought another Ford. Currently have a VW Scirroco love it but it's 10 years old and they no longer make themSad.

Philandbill · 26/02/2022 19:24

@dannydyerismydad I had a 2CV when I was a student. Mine also hated the damp, I used to have to spray part of the engine with WD40 in the autumn, winter and early spring before I attempted to start it. I also loved my 2CV, you've not lived as a driver if you haven't managed the lack of acceleration, the huge turning circle, the odd gear stick and the flappy windows. Grin

WowOoo · 26/02/2022 19:27

It was a long time ago but was a Renault. Had a bad experience with a Citroen hire car (front bonnet blew up while driving on winding roads) and have avoided those ever since.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 26/02/2022 19:29

Dsis bought a huge CMax....with a one litre engine. Slow as treacle!

36degrees · 26/02/2022 19:29

We actually moved house to the top of a hill when we had a 2CV because working with gravity was the only way to get it started. We spent more time with the Citroen garage company car than the one we bought and paid for.

Shmithecat2 · 26/02/2022 19:30

A MK1 Mercedes A Class. Mean and peevish POS. Vowed I'd never buy another Merc. That was 15 years ago now, and I do have another Merc now ( different model) and it's bloody marvellous.

ShavingTheBadger · 26/02/2022 19:30

Alfa Romeo 147 (owned by FIAT) and bought brand new. Handbrake froze in the cold. Water leaked in through the windscreen seal on to the electrics so the central locking would turn on and off when I was driving down the motorway. Took it to a garage for a service 5 years in and they told me the bodywork underneath was rotten.

Have been with my current garage 10 years. They made me promise to never buy French or Italian cars ever again.

dannydyerismydad · 26/02/2022 19:36

@Philandbill don't forget the "aircon". A knob on the dash that opens a flap to let air in under the windscreen 🤣

bloodywhitecat · 26/02/2022 19:37

A bright orange Morris Marina coupe.

Stretchandsnap · 26/02/2022 19:37

Renault Megane - really comfortable to drive but electrics - bloody nightmare. Never again

Mackmama · 26/02/2022 19:37

Nissan note, there wasn’t really anything wrong with it, I’m just a car snob and I didn’t like it!

chipsarnie · 26/02/2022 19:38

Yet another Scenic. All the windows - including sunroof - would randomly open when parked. Loud, nannying warning buzzers for bloody everything - one of which came on and stayed on at the start of 1,000 mile road trip round Germany, The Netherlands and France. Shame, because it went like the clappers when needed, swallowed long journeys and had a super comfy, well designed interior with loads of storage and secret cubby holes under the floor and a front passenger seat that could fold into a table (or changing table when DS was a baby).

Tara336 · 26/02/2022 19:38

Rover 214 it was cursed! Every single panel was hit by other drivers, the bonnet was dented by a suicidal deer, it was in the body shop so often being repaired I was on first name terms with them! I was rear ended, reversed into (both sides) and someone tried to create an extra lane on a roundabout and scrapped down the side. It had a mystery electrical issue and would refuse to start and had all the mechanics scratching their heads, in the end went to a specialist electrical place and he was a out to give up when he changed the one thing he fuse it couldn't possibly be causing the problem...and cured it. The final straw was a blow out at 70mph and I decided it had to go before i died in it.

cocktailclub · 26/02/2022 19:38

Peugeot 308. Had some sort of oil leak. It was just out of warranty when it emptied all its oil and the engine started smoking on the motorway about 250 miles from home.
It was never properly repaired by Peugeot and I'd never buy another Peugeot

Norgie · 26/02/2022 19:38

A ford escort. The definition of Fix Or Repair Daily!!
Around 30 years ago, a Fiat Panda, whose clutch cable snapped without fail around every two months! Usually at traffic lights or junctions where you would be changing gear.
Yet, I've had both a brand new fiat stilo and a panda since then with absolutely no problem whatsoever.

Narutocrazyfox · 26/02/2022 19:48

Vauxhall Astra. Was so unreliable parts used to literally fall off it - often as I was driving. It was heavy, clunky and had the world's most uncomfortable seats to boot. Would overheat if I drove longer than 30 minutes anywhere. Had an alarm which went off at the mearest puff of wind (which eventually necessitated me cutting the wires at 11pm in my dressing gown, to the amusement of my neighbours). I have avoided vauxhalls ever since!

Philandbill · 26/02/2022 19:55

@dannydyerismydad I had forgotten the aircon! I haven't forgotten that it was a convertible though, even if the roof looked like a deckchair Grin

Tara336 · 26/02/2022 19:57

Weirdly I've owned 2 Clios and 2 Megan's and never had a problem with any of them, but that was from new so maybe that's why

moirarosebabay · 26/02/2022 19:59

Renault Clio. Also electric windows and cost £600 every time it needed fixed. Spent more on repairs than i did on buying it.

Ginandcrispsarebliss · 26/02/2022 19:59

Renault Clio. It was my first car and the sunroof leaked. When I drove to work and it was raining I would literally get soaked. Then the electrics were failing and the windscreen wipers wouldn't turn off. I had a tiny fused box under the passenger side and had to take the fuse out everytime it stopped raining. Makes me smile when thinking about it but at the time it drove me nuts.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 26/02/2022 20:01

I loved my Clio. It's still in the family 16 years after I bought it.

shakinsti · 26/02/2022 20:15

We had loads of issues with our Renault scenic. Cost us a fortune and I didn't even like it that much.

Also a Peugeot 807. Everything was electric including the doors which meant when the battery died you couldn't even get in it. Happened on holiday once, couldn't get in it when we were due to drive home.

polexiaaphrodesia · 26/02/2022 20:20

Vauxhall Corsa. 1l engine was an absolute death trap when you needed to get up to speed quickly ie. joining a motorway leaving me a gibbering wreck. Currently have a Nissan Quashqi which needs about £700 worth of repairs at every MOT.
