The worst car you've ever owned?

Going on from a previous thread what is the worst car you have ever owned & what are your reasons?

So I know to stay clear lol!

Mine was my first car a Fiat Tipo.
I loved it as it was my 1st car but that thing would not start!! Petrol gauge was broke too. It was a right shed!

A Peugeot 106 it cost £150 with 11 months of mot

It didn't lock, leaked when it rained, had a choke with a peg, one tyre randomly deflated even with a replacent tyre and the passenger window wouldn't stay up but it got me to work and back for the 11 months when we scrapped it

User7497521 · 26/02/2022 16:57

I did like my Renault Clio but it cost a fortune in repairs and things going wrong so I will say that was my worst car

30mph · 26/02/2022 16:59

Renault Megane. The comfort levels were superb. But, the electrics were absolute shite throughout. Even a simple lightbulb change meant taking major parts of bumper etc., off for access, meaning a garage visit! It was all fur coat and no knickers.

Onesmallstepforaman · 26/02/2022 17:01

Austin metro in 1987. It cost more to keep running in the first year we owned it than we'd paid for it. Thankfully, a shunt damaged it enough that once repaired, it looked ok. We traded it in pronto.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 26/02/2022 17:05

Fiat Punto. Had from brand new and there were problems from day one. It randomly would not start - dodgy alternator. I always advise people never to buy a Fiat.

thenightsky · 26/02/2022 17:05

Austin Allegro. Vile thing. The suspension had to be pumped up with gas at regular intervals.

MsMiaWallace · 26/02/2022 17:06

Although we loved our fiat 500!

My current Citroen C4. It's cost me more in repairs than I paid for it, but I'm stuck as I can't afford to replace it 🙄

Itshothothot · 26/02/2022 17:08

Renault clio.

It had every part in it replaced. It seemed to be constantly in the garage.

Lanaa · 26/02/2022 17:13

My first car - a Renault Clio. I was at college and had a PT job. All my wages went on that useless thing. I used to get it fixed every pay day and pray that it would make it to the next month without needing something major.

DevonTF · 26/02/2022 17:14

Renault Scenic. Thought it would be a sensible second car with the kids. Felt sad every time I drove it. Sold it within a year and bought a Mini Countryman.

BlueThursday · 26/02/2022 17:14

Granted I only had it as a courtesy car but a Vauxhall Vectra scared the life out of me.

Absolutely no grip and ended up going sideways round a roundabout

NightmareSlashDelightful · 26/02/2022 17:17

Audi A4. It wasn’t so much about reliability — although it did throw a couple of punishing bills — but the thing was just so inert and characterless. I might as well have been driving a fridge.

GreyTS · 26/02/2022 17:17

Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, broke down everywhere, have had 3 other Citroens and no issues, in fact I currently drive a Renault Megane and it's been brilliant, had it from new for 3 years now, probably the oldest car I've had for a long time but it's a very high BHP GT which aren't been made anymore so I'll hang in to it for another while

NightmareSlashDelightful · 26/02/2022 17:18

Least reliable car I owned was an Austin Metro but it was new in 1985 and I had it in the late 90s so I wouldn’t have expected much anyway.

rifling · 26/02/2022 17:18

I'm almost 50 and I have only ever had one car. It's a citroen but I couldn't tell you the model! Grin

playinthedarkness · 26/02/2022 17:19

Hyundai trajet- it was in so often at the garage after a very deceiving 6mnths of no problems... that the garage owner named it the tragedy! Spent far too much on repairs before we got rid!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/02/2022 17:20

I had a Suzuki WagonR+
It was "ok" as a car but everything I needed had to be ordered and took ages to get in stock .
It also wore an Invisibilty Cloak , I swear lorry drivers looked right in my face and still bloody pulled out in front of me Hmm

Nissan Note weirdly seemed to attract everyone to park 1" from the door , As it was ancient and battered ( it got hit 3 times parked on the road ) , I wasn;t too fussy when I opened my door to shoehorn myself back in.
I think because it was little , other drivers thought they could have half of my space too . Once parked and gave myself tailgate space to open the boot (still in my space) Came back to find the bumper of a huge 4x4 actually on my tailgate Angry

SarahAndQuack · 26/02/2022 17:22

A mazda 2, but mainly because I bought it from a complete crook. I went with my then-husband, who doesn't drive, and this smarmy bloke kept giving him the hard sell and commenting on my drive on the test drive ('come on Mrs, give it some welly, we're not grannies here, ho ho' kind of stuff). I am terrible under pressure and should have walked away right then, but it was the make and model I wanted and I just got so distracted by him that I didn't think properly.

It was a really unreliable car from the start.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 26/02/2022 17:25

Fiat multipla.
Bought new. Fantastic concept.
Sadly built by fiat. Broke down on every family holiday.
Fix It Again Tomorrow

WordleDordle · 26/02/2022 17:25

Jeez, won't be buying any French car any time soon going by this thread.

RishiRich · 26/02/2022 17:25

A Toyota Aygo I had as an insurance courtesy car once. Seriously thought I was going to die because it was accelerating so slowly that it had only got up to 30mph at the end of the slip road onto the M1.

mewkins · 26/02/2022 17:26

Austin metro with the slippiest clutch ever.
Also a Fiat Uno which was fine in the summer but very temperamental in winter and often broke down on roundabouts etc. I sold it on in the summer, making a hundred quid profit though. Grin

A fiat panda i owned for ten years and never needed a repair so maybe fiats have improved.

Sideswiped · 26/02/2022 17:26

Suzuki Samurai - terrible car. Supposedly 4 wheel drive (if you could be arsed to get out and turn the locks on the hubs), but had a ridiculously high centre of gravity so you had to crawl round corners for fear of tipping over. I do thank the leaf-spring suspension for my first pregnancy as I think it helped jolt an egg through my damaged Fallopian tubes.
Hillman Imp (a very old beast now if any survive) - the heating didn't work unless you drove at 60, which was thrashing it. In winter I used to drive in tracksuit trousers, a jumper and a duffel coat, with a hot water bottle on my lap and a blanket on top over my legs. It was so light you had to hang on to the steering wheel for from death as you would get pulled to the side when coming out of the slipstream if you passed a lorry. (Oh, and someone stole the battery from mine - the boot (where the engine was) had convenient handles with no locks. After that I drove with a padlock and chain dangling on the back of the car!)

ViceLikeBlip · 26/02/2022 17:27

I feel like I need to say that I've got an ancient Renault Scenic- bought it 10 years ago for 4k and it's not given me one moment's bother!

All the worst cars I've had have been Peugeots. Best have all been Toyotas.
