That you either bought or were given as new?

Mine is a signet ring my DF gave me for passing my 11 plus. Its 52 years old and I've never taken it off since the day he gave it to me.

OP posts:

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/02/2022 19:05
@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads What an amazing thing to have
@Enko, I have a first Ed Looking Glass, abs about 159 other editions, translations and illustrators too. It was DF’s life collection.

Have a clock cleaned in 1855, made by my gt gt gf, and should have an 1837 sovereign, but XH has nicked it.

horseymum · 25/02/2022 19:09

Musical instrument I've owned for 13 years, it's about 135 years. I love it, with all it's scratches and bumps. It's probably German, so expect it's seen a lot of history.

Knittedfairies · 25/02/2022 19:10

My husband bought me a bit of meteorite one Christmas; it's supposedly four and a half thousand million years old. He's got a little better at buying gifts since...

spacehardware · 25/02/2022 19:12

The oldest thing I've owned since new js the bible my grandparents gave me for my christening

The oldest thing I own is a painting from 1872

spacehardware · 25/02/2022 19:12

Oh I suppose my diamonds are millions of years old, but not in their cut form they aren't

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 25/02/2022 19:13

A collection of insects in Amber and fossils that are millions of years old.

skybluee · 25/02/2022 19:17

I don't know... I don't think I have anything that's very old. I live in a new build flat and I got everything new.

My TV is from 2006 or 2007.
I have some CDs that are from about year 2000.
I'd have to go digging through drawers to find the real answer to this. It may be a book or a trinket.

I like modern stuff but I also like to buy once/buy good quality things if I can.

skybluee · 25/02/2022 19:19

I have a suit top that I had in high school. This might be the winner!

LightsoftheNorth · 25/02/2022 19:24

So many people ignoring what the OP actually asked 🤦‍♀️

My Dad made me a beautiful sledge that's more over 50 years old. It's a lovely memory of him as he died when I was a young adult.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/02/2022 19:27

My Teddy bear is 63 years old. I also have a Noddy dolls' teapot that is 62 years old. I have a Victorian dressing table but I've only owned it for about 35 years.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/02/2022 19:29

Actually, that is a good point @LightsoftheNorth. In which case, my sleeping bag. A 3 season down one from Rab, which I bought new in 1992 abs has travelled far and wide with me.

Lulu1919 · 25/02/2022 19:33

Gold chain I never take off ..given to me by my now husband when I was 19 ....I'm now 53 and we've been married 32 years

dizzydizzydizzy · 25/02/2022 21:30

My Great Grandmother's engagement ring, I think.

Howshouldibehave · 26/02/2022 09:48

So many people ignoring what the OP actually asked 🤦‍♀️

I said this yesterday! It’s bizarre how many people don’t actually bother to read the OP!

Yes-lots of people have very lovely family heirlooms. It’s not what the OP wanted to know though!!

AgentCarterRocks · 26/02/2022 10:12

I've got toys from my childhood such as the toy dog on wheels "walker" I had when I was a toddler (death trap as it was so poorly balanced you couldn't lean on it without it toppling over) so that's early 70s.

LydiaFTM · 26/02/2022 10:17

Not really along the same lines but I still have my library card in my purse from when I was 4 (30+ years ago). Pretty sure it wouldn't work now either but I just can't get rid of it.

toomanychickens · 26/02/2022 10:20

My rabbit soft toy - same age as me so nearly 50.

moderationinWumbsnet · 26/02/2022 10:24

Some Celestine crystal.

Libertybear80 · 26/02/2022 10:26

It's not valuable but when I was 25 my x partner and I bought a dinner set from Argos. I've still got one plate that won't die that we use everyday and I'm 55 now!

StScholastica · 26/02/2022 10:34

Fossils, my Ddad was a coal miner and used to bring home a nice rock from time to time that we would chisel apart at home to look for fossils.

TheVanguardSix · 26/02/2022 10:37

I have lots of old things as part of ex-H's antiuque collection but personally?

My father's 1944 self-portrait drawn when he was 17 years old and in concentration camp. He drew portraits for the guards and their families which allowed him access to pencil and paper (and an additional bread roll from time to time).

My grandfather's IRA badge from 1922 I think.
My Hohner Melodica from the 1960s (my brothers and I played it throughout our childhoods).

Hoppinggreen · 26/02/2022 10:40

We have a coffee Grinder DHs great uncle bought as a present for his a Great Aunts family when he met them for the first time. (Not in The UK).
It’s 104 years old

TheVanguardSix · 26/02/2022 10:45

That you either bought or were given as new?

Missed that bit. Sorry. So... in this case, my Hohner Melodica (given to my brothers and me as children. It's over 50 years old).
