That you either bought or were given as new?

Mine is a signet ring my DF gave me for passing my 11 plus. Its 52 years old and I've never taken it off since the day he gave it to me.

I have a collection of Tudor buttons. The oldest modern thing I have is my grandmothers silver.

HerRoyalHappiness · 25/02/2022 16:01

Given as new, an old portable TV. It's in my attic. Still works. Got it when I was 5, so it's 25 years old.

The actual oldest thing in my house is my daughters. It's a baby bangle, bought for my mum and passed down to me, then on to my daughter. It's 52 years old.

My wedding ring. Assayed in 1794. I also have a headmasters log book from a primary school dated 1840 and written in until 1850. Huge great big book. And my Nan's bonbon dish from 1900

I got a My Little Pony for passing my 11 plus! You are a lot more sophisticated. I still have Cherries Jubilee and my other ones. I’ve got older things though, the oldest would be a stuffed rabbit given to me as a baby, but I also have a lot of my childhood Ladybird books, Famous Fives etc.
HomeHomeInTheRange · 25/02/2022 16:03

A bit of fossilised dinosaur leg.

EezyOozy · 25/02/2022 16:04

My house, built 1803.

TeapotCollection · 25/02/2022 16:04

I think BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation wins 😃

GeneLovesJezebel · 25/02/2022 16:05

A locket that my DM wore as a young woman.

caringcarer · 25/02/2022 16:05

I have a tiny silver christening bangle. I was christened at 3 months old and now 60. I am sure that is oldest thing I process from new.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 25/02/2022 16:05

From new... my teddies. They are from 1986...

Actually old... I have some books that my Great Aunt won at school. They are over 100 years old and are truly beautiful... the illustrations are prints of paintings for example.

What's the oldest thing you possess.
Howshouldibehave · 25/02/2022 16:08

Not sure people are reading your actual question!

That you either bought or were given as new?

Mine is probably a pair of tiny flower earrings I had soon after I got my ears pierced. They always made my ears a bit sore, but they were so lovely I have never thrown them away! They are nearly 40 years old.

DH still has his old teddy-much repaired and rather battered!

CrunchyCarrot · 25/02/2022 16:08

A teddy, she's now 56 years old! Was given her for Xmas many moons ago. Still in good condition.

Kitkat151 · 25/02/2022 16:12

A pack of gold rimmed playing cards that were my grandads.....think they will be at least 100 years old....possibly more

ParkheadParadise · 25/02/2022 16:12

Rosary beads I got when I made my First communion.
Both my dd's have used them as a necklace 😂

Susu49 · 25/02/2022 16:14

I have a couple of heirlooms dating back to the Victorian period...a gold ring, v 1920s, and a crystal vase that was given to a great, great aunt on her wedding day.

We had grander things in the family going further back but they were inherited by different branches in the early c20th.

@Vicliz24 I'm very jealous- I'd love something like that!

Susu49 · 25/02/2022 16:15

Oops guilty of not reading your post thoroughly! I have a couple of teddies I was given the day I was born.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 25/02/2022 16:15

My DP.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 25/02/2022 16:15

Thinking about it, the actual oldest thing given to me new is my Birth Certificate!

caranations · 25/02/2022 16:16

A lump of coprolite, otherwise known as fossilised dinosaur turd. Grin

I've also got a very strange round stone I dug up in our garden, which the local museum said was a blob of lava from an ancient volcano. How that ended up in the rural home counties is a mystery. We don't have any volcanoes round here as far as I know.

Other than that, a large German vase dating from around 1850 which has been handed down in the family from our German ancestors and I'm the current custodian of it.

Ilovetheseventies · 25/02/2022 16:17

Baby teeth in a trinket box god knows why ?

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/02/2022 16:17

A fossilized bit of a shark tooth - can't remember how old but millions of years..

Some roman coins and a little Roman figurine thing.

A Mary mother of G wooden statue from 13th century (full of ringworm)

Oldest thing given as new is Christening mug and a Christening money box.

caranations · 25/02/2022 16:21

Oh, missed the bought or given as new bit. In that case a teddy bear given to me when I was born, and it and I will be sharing a significant birthday in the not too distant future.

fussychica · 25/02/2022 16:23

DH and I both have bears given to us as babies so 65 years old. Still have all my dolls too. In the loft, so pointless really.
I've just remembered we have a fossil.

Inherited or handed down, a fabulous ring from the 1930s, remodelled in the 50s which I wear daily, huge family bible from 1800s.

Pyewhacket · 25/02/2022 16:24

Obviously not from new but our house was built in 1838 so only just Victorian. However it does still have most of the original fittings : servants bells, gas lamps, oil lamps, cast iron conservatory with old missmatched glass panels as a wartime repair. Hardwood and tiled floors ( the hallways is black and white tiles so it looks like a chess board ) . Laundry. Basement with butlers pantry. Every room has a fireplace and I had all the sash windows restored, which cost and absolute fortune.

The door bell is my favourite. It has a huge brass knob that you pull and via pulleys and levers it rings a bell that you can hear anywhere in the house, even in the outside khazi. We also have an air raid shelter.

If walls could talk what tales they could tell !.

burnoutbabe · 25/02/2022 16:27

Teddy j got at at my christening so he is as old as me. (Well 6 months younger) Sits on my shelves.

Actually sone books I have from charity shops must be older but I got them myself later in life.
