That you either bought or were given as new?

Mine is a signet ring my DF gave me for passing my 11 plus. Its 52 years old and I've never taken it off since the day he gave it to me.

I've still got a doll and teddy from when I was very young, they must be 49/50 years old.

I'm loving the fossils.

twosticksandanapple · 25/02/2022 16:28

Blaeu map of Shropshire dated 1645. I love old maps and have lots on my walls instead of pictures.

JellybabyGina87 · 25/02/2022 16:32

I've got dolls that are over 150 years old.

Ylvamoon · 25/02/2022 16:34

An English dictionary from the 1750's in 3 pocket sized volumes. They were given to a lady of minor aristocracy by a very prominent personality of the time.

Bought them from a charity shop about 20 years ago.

harrumphs · 25/02/2022 16:45

Mine is either my teddy that would be 45yrs old, or a print signed by the (famous) artist that I think is older than me though I can't be sure.

marieantoinehairnet · 25/02/2022 16:48

A lovely bible given to me by my grandmother, around 300 years old

My husband has his GGG grandfathers fancy pocket watch

Kenworthington · 25/02/2022 16:50

I’ve got a sword, that allegedly killed 13 Englishmen in the battle of culloden In 1746. It’s a family heirloom

Associatepeggy · 25/02/2022 16:50

Not 100% sure. My mum recently died and I was left her grandmothers ring. But I don't know when she would have got it.

I also have a brooch of hers that is a queen Victoria sovereign, that could be older.

I also have a Shillelagh which was her other grandmother's.

Again, I don't know when they were made so not sure exactly.

Holothane · 25/02/2022 16:53

A 235 book of housewife remedies. Published 1787 I’ve just given back to the Old Operating Theatre in London a copy of a surgical, book I’ve had for 30 years published 1814 it came from St Thomas hospital originally so I wanted it to back there.

Ooh - this is tricky when you throw in the "bought or given as new"!

I have lots of things older than me, but things bought for me? I have my Christening Gifts and some cuddly toys I was given as a baby, one of which still sleeps in the bed with me every night.

In terms of things like electricals, I have a Tefal iron I bought when I bought my own place in 2002. That and the ironing board are still in mint condition... probably due to lack of use... (I don't iron often!)!

I still have a lot of furniture that I bought at the same time. None of it was expensive stuff, but it turns out that cheap, but solid pine, bedroom furniture from Argos, really, really lasts!

In terms of other older stuff that wasn't given new, I have some Victorian furniture and jewellery that came via family members, which I treasure.

Norgie · 25/02/2022 16:58

My Great grandmother's earthenware baking bowl. It's been passed down the line.
When I die, my daughter will have it.
It's still used.

MotherofPearl · 25/02/2022 16:59

My granny's pearls. She was given them by my grandfather in 1940, so they're 82, though I've only had them for about 20 years.

Howshouldibehave · 25/02/2022 17:01

Ooh-this is tricky when you throw in the "bought or given as new"!

It is! I find it really interesting though-to know what things people have owned from new and still have. Also, to read what things/makes have actually lasted!

Hearing about things from grandparents/1700s/dinosaurs is also lovely, but would have been good for a different thread.

Spud1130 · 25/02/2022 17:02

My wedding ring is made from the rings of my grandparents, great grandparents and great great grandparents, the latter of whom were married in the late 1800s

florentina1 · 25/02/2022 17:02

I have a pot which stood on my Grans dressing table, it was a wedding present. He married in 1898

topcat2014 · 25/02/2022 17:09

My 1970 semi, and then a 1990s duvet cover.

ColettesEarrings · 25/02/2022 17:09

I've got my great great grandad's original birth certificate from 1891, it's incredibly fragile yet somehow very beautiful too. My own wedding ring is 100 years old this year too!

forlornlorna · 25/02/2022 17:09

When I was little and lost my first baby tooth my grandma gave me a silver trinket pot to keep it in as I didn't want the fairy to have it. As the years rolled by all my baby teeth went into the pot. Along with all my siblings baby teeth. So yeah 5 sets of baby teeth now still sit on a shelf in my bedroom in that same silver pot lol

k1233 · 25/02/2022 17:10

I've got a number of things from my childhood that makes them 40+ years old. Have a couple of necklaces from when I was 8 or 9, christening silver set, mum framed a sampler we did in school when I was 9 - it looks nice on the wall. My coffee plunger at work is 25 years old, my work calculator (bought my own) is older than that and still perfect. My Christmas decorations are from when I started work in 1995.

Things, even cheap things, were better made in the past then they are now. Quality has noticeably dropped.

Howshouldibehave · 25/02/2022 17:11

1990s duvet cover

That’s just reminded me of another one! I still have my favourite St Michael M+S single duvet set from when I was little-I put it on DD’s bed now. It is in brilliant condition-I must have had that since I was about 5!

Mia184 · 25/02/2022 17:13

My grandparents telephone from the 1950s. It is currently in a box in the basement because when it rings, it is VERY loud.

k1233 · 25/02/2022 17:14

Actually, I've also got a doll from when I was 3 and an oscar the grouch hand puppet from the same birthday.

ClariceQuiff · 25/02/2022 17:17

From new - the monkey I had as a baby that plays 'rock a bye baby' which is as old as I am.

k1233 · 25/02/2022 17:17

Plus two teddies my granddad gave to me. One was so wonderful as he was bigger than then 4yo me.

Thatsplentyjack · 25/02/2022 17:18

A doll I got when I was about 3 to replace the doll I lost. That's her 29 now.
