I freely admit I am am Ostrich and have no wish to see, hear or read anything about the situation in Ukraine. I can do nothing about it and all it is doing is giving me me sleepless nights. Please can posters use the 'in the news' topic to discuss so that it can be hidden from those of us who don't wish to know.

OP posts:

You can hide threads if you need to. I have done this in the past on topics I prefer not to see.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 24/02/2022 11:36

I doubt that will happen with something like this as it has worries and thoughts branching off

We don't want the 'in the news' section full of ' shall we prep' and ' how does a nuclear war work' type threads......sorry. You should maybe hide chat and AIBU

AlexaShutUp · 24/02/2022 11:41

I'm sorry that this is causing you anxiety but I really don't like people trying to police threads in this way. Virtually any thread in AIBU, Chat etc could be slotted into one of the other categories, but these boards tend to be more lively.

These are major global events and it's natural that discussions will spill over into the general boards. If you're unable to cope with it, maybe take some time away from MN or hide AIBU/Chat etc and stick to the topics that you're comfortable with.

You can bury your head in the sand all you like, but lots of people do want to talk about these things.

jm901928 · 24/02/2022 11:42

Sorry the whole world doesn’t tiptoe around your needs 🙄

I agree with this.

I agree. This has massive global implications and shouldn't have to be shoved away somewhere fairly obscure. Just don't open any threads about it? Any I've seen are clearly marked.
Rococococo · 24/02/2022 11:46

Just hide the threads. I can’t cope with (for example) any threads about children being murdered so had to hide the discussions about little Arthur Labinjo Hughes.

BootsScootsAndToots · 24/02/2022 11:48

Agree with pp. This isn't something to be tucked away Hmm

heldinadream · 24/02/2022 11:55

Surely if you are a self-confessed ostrich it's up to you to stick your own head in the sand OP?

UnderTheSea20k · 24/02/2022 12:27

Stick your own head in the sand then, ostrich

ThatsNotMyGolem · 24/02/2022 12:28

Just because you're burying your head in the sand, doesn't mean everyone else is. How arrogant.

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 12:29

No many people won't find it there it's absolutely wrong to coral this into a side topic.

Hundreds of people shouldn't have to change their behaviour due to your worries.

LadyLothbrook · 24/02/2022 12:30

As PP have suggested either hide the threads yourself or avoid Mumsnet. Unreasonable request I'm afraid.

Viviennemary · 24/02/2022 12:30

Why haven't you. Confused

Juno22 · 24/02/2022 12:31

This is an important subject. It's not just 'In the News', it affects us all. I cannot think about anything else today.

If you wish to ignore it then it's up to you to take measures not to read anything about it.

happydays121 · 24/02/2022 12:32

Agree with the others.
You can't control what & where other people post ! Who do you think you are?

Turn your phone & tv off and do what makes you happy ! But this is something that concerns the rest of us

Pandai · 24/02/2022 12:33

Or just log off mumsnet, read thread titles before clicking in, take some self responsibility?

Smidgy · 24/02/2022 12:34

People can post where they want.

starfishmummy · 24/02/2022 12:35

Even if other people and the mumsnet powers agreed its going to be difficult to do. Not everyone is going to read your post before starting a thread and it's rather arrogant to think they would!!

This is a matter of international importance and not something that either can or should be hidden away because you don't like it.

gogohm · 24/02/2022 12:36

This is very important and should not be hidden away. Real life can be uncomfortable. I have a dd in the navy, it's kind of close to home for us.

Hiding from life increases anxiety not decreases, if you learn about what is actually going on it can be less scary, and certainly less of a surprise. This crisis isn't sudden if you follow geopolitics.

Goldenbear · 24/02/2022 12:38

I mean in all honesty OP we are in this position because globally we have put our heads in the sand. We need to do something about it not ignore it.

CrabSnake · 24/02/2022 12:38

How entitled. I think you need to take a break from the internet, OP.

Babadook76 · 24/02/2022 12:39

You do realise you’ve posted this in chat? So everyone else’s threads have to be hidden, but you can post wherever you like?

gogohm · 24/02/2022 12:40

@LadyLothbrook

It's not only Mumsnet she should avoid, it's the main conversation in Waitrose this morning, even in home bargains - complete strangers wanting to talk in the queues when it doesn't normally happen. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, even tictoc all are full of news.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 24/02/2022 12:41

I think all the anxious mumsnetters will be campaigning to MNHQ for this....and i think HQ will bend for them.
