I freely admit I am am Ostrich and have no wish to see, hear or read anything about the situation in Ukraine. I can do nothing about it and all it is doing is giving me me sleepless nights. Please can posters use the 'in the news' topic to discuss so that it can be hidden from those of us who don't wish to know.

@TellMeMoreHellebore

I think all the anxious mumsnetters will be campaigning to MNHQ for this....and i think HQ will bend for them.
Well seen as though thankfully covid restrictions have eased here and although it's still a risk its a low lower than was they need something to obssess and 'literally shake' over.
Crunchymum · 24/02/2022 12:45

@squashyhat

Can you please provide and comprehensive and exhaustive list if what people can and cannot post about? We'd hate to offend your delicate sensibilities.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 24/02/2022 12:46

But you have just put the title Ukraine on active convos, a bit backwards thinking there Grin

MadameHeisenberg · 24/02/2022 12:47

No. Who on earth do you think you are? Get a grip, FFS.

Can you ask MNHQ for an edit button whilst you are asking them for censorship Grin Cheers.

You just need to hide threads you find difficult. I hid most of the Covid ones at the start of the pandemic because I didn't really want to engage with the topic at that point. I have hidden the whole feminism topic because sometimes it dominates the boards. You need to be responsible for your own censorship.

WouldIwasShookspeared · 24/02/2022 12:53

This is very serious and worrying and people are going to talk about it everywhere.
You would be better off hiding threads if you feel you can't cope with knowing the reality of what's going on and what it possibly means for us. There's no shame in saying you can't face it but you achieve that by removing yourself not by trying to control an entire forum. Flowers

chicagononsense · 24/02/2022 13:00

No. Just no. This is serious. It absolutely should not be hidden. Chat is probably the main board on this site. That plus AIBU. You can’t tell people where they can and cannot post.

As others have said there is a hide thread button. Click on that. Do not tell people to stop posting about something so serious.

LizBennet · 24/02/2022 13:02

Bloody hell 😬
As said, bit much asking for a current topic to be put in a certain place (and also policing the site is a tad too much).

MMBaranova · 24/02/2022 13:02

What a pathetic attempt at steering communication.

XenoBitch · 24/02/2022 13:04

Maybe MN will make a special board for this, like they did Corona.
It is a bit jarring to go onto a board that under "Fun and Games" and see talk about getting blown up.

JellybabyGina87 · 24/02/2022 13:05

No you can't ask that. It's a current topic that is going to be discussed whether you like it or not. I don't like reading about it either but I just hide threads that make me feel worried.

TenoringBehind · 24/02/2022 13:07

Erm, no.

Maybe stay off the internet or MN for the time being.

nearlyspringyay · 24/02/2022 13:07

Who put you in charge?

yep....thats the first step towards pacifying the poor little fluffed up ostriches!
EssexLioness · 24/02/2022 13:16

The irony of you posting this in Chat seems to be lost on you OP!

tigger1001 · 24/02/2022 13:17

@AlexaShutUp

I'm sorry that this is causing you anxiety but I really don't like people trying to police threads in this way. Virtually any thread in AIBU, Chat etc could be slotted into one of the other categories, but these boards tend to be more lively.

These are major global events and it's natural that discussions will spill over into the general boards. If you're unable to cope with it, maybe take some time away from MN or hide AIBU/Chat etc and stick to the topics that you're comfortable with.

You can bury your head in the sand all you like, but lots of people do want to talk about these things.

I agree.

I understand anxiety but also understand that this is a massive global story and people will want to discuss it. For some being able to talk about it with others who are knowledgeable about the area might help deal with their anxiety.

Don't open threads on topics that you know will upset you

op wont be back

she's on the site stuff topic calling for a war topic

SerendipityJane · 24/02/2022 13:55

Well Brexit and Covid got moved off to their own little worlds. Why not this ? What makes this any different ?

I don't think this is any different tbh. I always thought it was stupid to try and stop people from posting about Brexit and Covid wherever they liked. And although they created separate boards, it never actually stopped people from posting in AIBU or Chat, and nor should it have done.
PAFMO · 24/02/2022 14:10

Unbelievable.
The OP doesn't want to know about a country being bombed to fuck by a madman
Well, I bet the poor fuckers on the ground there would like the privilege of not having to deal with it either.

I genuinely think that's really sad. She must be massively massively struggling

I was coming from the angle that it shouldn't be moved. However once the precedent was set, every subsequent major news story will face the same. And then we need to wonder why some topics were moved and some not. Clearly a decision made at MN Towers based on subjective criteria.

Maybe MN should stick to recipies and patterns after all ?
