Anyone finding the tone of this really quite terrifying...

I’m not one to get myself in a tizz over sensationalised news but this is starting to feel very different!

@Tigersonvaseline

Have I missed something? Has the EU Said " we can't respond because of Brexit," has the EU response been criticised And blamed on Brexit??
@Tigersonvaseline Does Jeremy Corbyn run the EU?
Livelovebehappy · 24/02/2022 20:23

There’s mention of Cyber attacks on banks as repercussion if we get involved. What does this mean potentially? That our bank accounts could be wiped?

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2022 20:23

No. I'm saying that's what Putin would like. Not sure why you are being so aggressive.

Don't even need to wipe the accounts, taking the UK banking system off line for a few days would cause havoc.

Each of Putins invasions going back to Georgia in 2007 has been preceded by cyber attacks, the Russians are quite expert at it.

Yes but EU hasn't been weakened by Brexit at all. The EU is massive. My wider picture takes in a little more then trying to shoe horn Brexit into absolutely everything.

I'm more interested right now in what Imran khan was doing with Putin today?

But it has been weakened by Brexit. Everything has. And we're still only at the beginning of this exit. Do you not see the right-wing winds blowing all over the shop at the minute? The US? Poland? (Who are also discussing a Polexit...) Hungary? Every single dot is connected, because we all live in the same world.

But those people are foreigners and the British English are best.

I generally find mn pretty down on British tbh

Not all but it’s a theme for last two years

derxa · 24/02/2022 20:28
@derxa is that because Boris owes his position to the funding provided by those linked to the Russian president, whereas Corbyn was if nothing else capable of independent thought?
Corbyn the eternal protest politician. He didn't believe Russia was responsible for the Salisbury poisonings. A friend of the IRA and Hamas. You're damn right I didn't want him for PM.

Well, indeed. It's all to do with Britain (everybody want us!) - and then nothing to do with Britain, whenever it's convenient. Interesting cop-out for sure.
Notonthestairs · 24/02/2022 20:30

Our actual current PM and Conservative party have received somewhere in the region £2 million in donations.
But rather than face that people blather on about a has been like Corbyn.

LauriePartridge4Eva · 24/02/2022 20:31

Friend of the IRA? Why is this lazy shit always trotted out by Tory voters when they happily vote for the party that was propped up by the political wing of the UDA/UVF/LVF? Three groups that murdered with impunity and the DUP meets and works with them to this day....as they did when they were in bed with the Tories.

Make it make sense.

@derxa much better have a PM who has been paid for by the mates of a dictator who has this morning invaded a sovereign democracy.

Presumably Margaret Thatcher and John Major are also friends of the IRA given that they were happy have their governments talking to the IRA.

Particularly odd choice of friends in Thatchers case because they came within inches of murdering her.

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2022 20:34

Of course we'd all be a better informed about the influence of Russian money in the UK if we could read the Russia Report.

It has been weakened.

But I am glad we are working as Europe and other countries at the moment. Because we need the EU, we don't need fighting in the countries next to us, who we trade with and who are our friends and allies.

When we speak together, we are stronger than just being a lone voice.

EmmaH2022 · 24/02/2022 20:36

@Tigersonvaseline

I'm finding it amusing how some posters are trying to shoe horn Brexit into this?

Putin invading Ukraine is because of BrexitGrin
How?

The UK is a small teeny country with no real clout or weight in the world at all.
We are like scrappy do.

Let me at 'em.

We are a minow compared with the might and wealth of the USA And EU.

This might be a real saving grace for those of us who want to keep out of it.

WW3 and Planet Of The Apes in the same week?

JimmyDurham · 24/02/2022 20:43

Well all I can say is that if Boris was bought by Putin, he's certainly quite willing to bite the hand that fed him!

As soon as you write 'mates' I place you in the same group as Angela Rayner. Are you Angela?

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 24/02/2022 20:48

God forbid someone uses the term 'mates' and potentially outs themselves as not being from the upper echelons of society.

I've no idea who funds who. Did the Russians pay for his wallpaper?
Blossomtoes · 24/02/2022 20:51

You're damn right I didn't want him for PM.

Well you didn’t get him so maybe you and all your mates could maybe STFU about him.

jgw1 · 24/02/2022 20:54

I'll give you a clue. One political party in the UK receives a lot of money from Russia and other overseas lands, the others receive much less from overseas.

Jemma Forte uses this term re Johnson all the time she's quite upper class.
