Are you stocking up on lateral flow tests?

I wondered now that the government are ending free tests if anyone else is stocking up on free tests?

I have got a box and a half left and that will have to do. I don't think DFS with additional needs does them properly anyway. He won't let us help him, insist on doing it himself but won't have it down his throat and only a little way up nose so pointless really. They are going to sell them in boots if we really need one for any reason. I suspect if work places want employees to take them they will provide them.

alltheapples · 23/02/2022 12:25

Article dated today - we do not yet know if anyone will get free tests or who that will be.

Mr Johnson said the full details of “who will continue to be entitled to free tests” will be set out in full next month.

I have about 6 boxes . I refuse to pay for them. Why the fuck should I pay ? I can ill afford to so while they are free I will take them.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 23/02/2022 12:26

@PeeAche please explain to me why making sure I have enough tests for my CEV child who will soon be sitting in a school classroom with Covid positive pupils is wasteful , virtue signalling or paranoid.

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 23/02/2022 12:28

Um stocking up. My df cant have covid jabs so I want to make sure we are safe before we visit. Budget is VERY tight atm I couldnt afford £2 to test everytime.
Call me selfish all you want I dont care I'm doing what is best for my family.

SoupDragon · 23/02/2022 12:29

Why the fuck should I pay ?

"Why the fuck" should you get them free?

xxxsuper · 23/02/2022 12:30

If you need is so great why not take responsibility and pay?

SoupDragon · 23/02/2022 12:30

(A question that the OP seems very keen not to answer)

Anyway, I'm out. This is ridiculous and it has to stop.

xxxsuper · 23/02/2022 12:31

Not true. My DP tried to order and it said as I had ordered 48 hours ago, we had to wait. Based on same address.

They must have changed it then because for the whole time of ordering lateral flow tests online I have ordered a box for me and a box for DH at the same time.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 23/02/2022 12:32

@xxxsuper

If you need is so great why not take responsibility and pay?
Because some people cannot afford them?
Change123today · 23/02/2022 12:32

No - I don’t see the point. I’ve only ever used them when I had symptoms and when I had covid day 6/7. The only other time when visiting grandparents. I’d be happy to pay to help keep them safe in the future.

If I read another comment saying I’m not paying for a test !! We are already pay through the back door (TAX) so it’s just not paying at point of delivery.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 23/02/2022 12:33

@Willowwisp23

What is wrong with people? Why on earth are there people testing daily, stockpiling, etc? Seriously, if this is you and you are not ecv you need to get your head out the sand and stop living your life in fear 🤦
I think its the other way round.

People who deny covid, deny the pandemic, want to pretend its all going away are the ones who are afraid deep down.

Its easier to pretend that its all gone.

You crack on if you want to, and stop worrying what precautions other people are taking.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 23/02/2022 12:37

Its interesting how peoples behaviours are changing.

At the beginning, there was shrill finger pointing at anyone who did not follow the rules.

Now the hysteria seems to be at people who will continue to take precautions.

How about mind your own?

Motnight · 23/02/2022 12:39

@alltheapples in right. I have just had exactly the same experience. Hard for people in shared houses.

xxxsuper · 23/02/2022 12:46

@Butteryflakycrust83

Because some people cannot afford them?

OP is not saying they can't afford them. OP is simply saying they won't pay because they should be free. Not the same.

Erictheavocado · 23/02/2022 12:47

I was able to order a box for me and one for dh yesterday - same address but different e-mail addresses.
I have a few spare boxes. I work in a school and UKSHA have advised us to test daily since No ember due to the high rates among our pupils. We are also still advised to wear masks in communal areas.
I will hold a couple of boxes back for when we visit CEV family members - recent transplant and cancer patients since I would rather at least attempt to be careful around them, than not.

RockstarDotCom · 23/02/2022 12:50

I do feel for people who genuinely can’t afford to buy them, but there will be people saying they can’t who are just not willing to prioritise it, instead they’ll stockpile now.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/02/2022 12:53

Disgusted at the idea that people are stockpiling to sell them on eBay. Disgraceful behaviour.

alltheapples · 23/02/2022 12:54

I had not thought of people in shared houses!

arethereanyleftatall · 23/02/2022 12:55

Those of you stockpiling, it may well come back to bite you. Some people can't afford them, so if they haven't got any tests (because you've got hundreds in your garage lying around just in case), they'll just carry on with their lives, passing their covid to you when you come in contact with them.

mistermagpie · 23/02/2022 12:57

@WhatAHexIGotInto

Nobody should be stockpiling anything. If you are vulnerable you will get them. If not, and you wish to so a test, you pay. We can't keep subsidising these tests indefinitely for people who have no symptoms but just want to do one.
This. I've got a friend who is testing her whole family (incl a child under five) EVERY DAY. It's not a requirement for work or childcare or anything, it's just because she wants to. It's bonkers.
Cornettoninja · 23/02/2022 12:57

@SoupDragon

Why the fuck should I pay ?

"Why the fuck" should you get them free?

As has already been pointed out, they’re not free, they’ve been paid for out of taxes - our money. Why should someone pay twice? I haven’t seen any plans to make them available at prescription rates which would be fairer.

Yes we’ve paid out a heck of a lot of money but if we’re to believe things are going to go to plan then these tests are going to end up languishing in a warehouse somewhere like previous government stockpiles of PPE.

I’d rather they were used.

alltheapples · 23/02/2022 12:57

Yes I could pay for them. But everything is going up in price. Our total household income is 40k, so no we are not poor, but with bills, NI, and food going up I do notice money is tighter.
And I resent paying for them when rich people have had such large handouts e.g. not paying tax on house buying for so long.

OP posts:
badkitty · 23/02/2022 12:57

No - very happy not to have to take them again. Some people are obsessed with them, it's utterly ridiculous. If you're ill and want to confirm it's covid then fine, otherwise the constant testing is nuts.

MrsJBaptiste · 23/02/2022 12:58

I don't take tests anymore so definitely see no need to stockpile!

We were desperate for them over Christmas when we were visiting family and had to beg, borrow and steal odd ones of friends and neighbours. Now it's all coming to an end we've got quite a few boxes of the damn things as schools and colleges were sending them home before half term and by the time the ones I ordered at Christmas arrived, I didn't need them anymore.
