Are you stocking up on lateral flow tests?

I wondered now that the government are ending free tests if anyone else is stocking up on free tests?

@WhatAHexIGotInto

Nobody should be stockpiling anything. If you are vulnerable you will get them. If not, and you wish to so a test, you pay. We can't keep subsidising these tests indefinitely for people who have no symptoms but just want to do one.
The government have NOT said the vulnerable will get them. 100,000 people entitled to antivirals will get them. This is a tiny fraction of the vulnerable and does not even include everyone with cancer.

@Svara

What for? The most vulnerable should still be able to access them and if workplaces require them they should also supply them?
Because some places still may require you to test for entry. Eg sports competitions etc.
LindaEllen · 23/02/2022 10:40

I'm not. Once the legal requirement to isolate ends, I will do what I always did. Stay home if I feel too unwell to go out, carry on with my life if I feel okay to do so.

alltheapples · 23/02/2022 10:42

I will do what I always did. Go to work unless I physically can't.

We have just got 1 extra pack in, we already have half a pack left for if we need them for anything in a medical setting, in case doctors or clinics require one or hospital visiting type stuff, that should be plenty for the two of us.

Yicky · 23/02/2022 10:46

"Why do you think you should not have to pay?"

I don't think the OP wants them for free. She doesn't want the tests so will not be paying for them.

rookiemere · 23/02/2022 10:46

Must be the only person on this thread saying yes. I'll continue to take them when visiting my DPs as DM has full blown anxiety about getting covid and DH and DS have just been identified as close contacts on our flight back from skiing, so (in Scotland) they're required to test each day for 7 days, so that's two packs needed straight away.

Iggly · 23/02/2022 10:47

@WhatAHexIGotInto

OP do you understand how much these tests are costing the country? Don't you care? Why should you not pay?
They were funded by the taxpayer and could continue to be so.
alltheapples · 23/02/2022 10:48

@Yicky yes I do want them for free and I am stockpiling them.

I'm in the four jabs group and currently pregnant so I'll make sure I've always got a couple of boxes to hand as the hospital requires me and my support partner to test regularly.

Furthermore, I'd want to know if I've caught it and seek medical advice early and I'm already classed as a high risk pregnancy for multiple reasons as it is without throwing covid into the mix too.

I have no problem paying for them though, although I appreciate not everyone can afford to.

Iggly · 23/02/2022 10:49

This government can afford to give banks a ducking tax cut right when they announce record profits.

Fuck them

WhatAHexIGotInto · 23/02/2022 10:49

Tests will be available for the elderly/most vulnerable from the 1st April. That's if there's any left for them from all the selfish arseholes who stockpile, rather than pay like everyone else. Again, why should you not pay?

Why should we pay when this virus hadn’t actually reached endemic stage yet?

It is not the flu. People are so dense.

alltheapples · 23/02/2022 10:51

And the government can afford to give well off individuals a tax break for a year of they were buying a house. Yes this has now finished, but it must have cost a fortune on lost tax.
But make poor people pay for a test is a okay.
So yes I am stockpiling. I wondered if others are.

@Yicky she is stockpiling them because she doesn't want to pay for them.

alltheapples · 23/02/2022 10:52

@WhatAHexIGotInto what proof do you have that free tests will be available for the vulnerable? Both i and DP are ecv and I have seen nothing about this.

OP posts:
Mariposista · 23/02/2022 10:53

no. will never do another one ever again.

RockstarDotCom · 23/02/2022 10:54

For those saying that their work will have to pay for them if they insist on them being done, what if they don’t?

lovemyflipflops · 23/02/2022 10:55

No - and if you are - shame on you ! We need to allow those who need regular tests the chance to get them. - it's the toilet roll syndrome all over again .....

Yicky · 23/02/2022 10:55

"@Yicky yes I do want them for free and I am stockpiling them."

I misunderstood. If the government is going to stop providing them for free they mustn't think they are necessary any more as they will know many people will not bother getting them once they have to pay. If they aren't necessary anymore then people who want them should pay for them.

Woahthehorsey · 23/02/2022 10:56

Yes I am because my job involves me going in to care homes which are insistent on LFTs being done each time but my work have not yet confirmed if they will provide the LFTs needed. I refuse to pay for them to do my job.

WhatAHexIGotInto · 23/02/2022 10:56

They were funded by the taxpayer and could continue to be so.

@Iggly yes, us, we are the country. You really think we should keep funding these when the money could be better spent elsewhere. They're also frighteningly inaccurate. I have covid right now and was still testing negative on LFT the day after my positive PCR. I have a box given to me for work and when that's gone, if I want a test, I'll put my hand in my pocket and pay for it.

KatherineJaneway · 23/02/2022 10:57

No. I have a couple of boxes which will last for a while.

MenopauseSucks · 23/02/2022 10:57

I'm not sure what will be happening as I'm an essential care giver to my Mum in a care home & currently testing daily as per the home's instructions.
Hopefully I'll get some free but who knows?

Motnight · 23/02/2022 10:58

I have ordered a box of 7. My dh is clinically vulnerable but I don't trust the NHS administrative processes to ensure that he will have access to free tests - he had to make an official complaint to his surgery in order to be recognised as vulnerable in the first place.
