Glad you tried but will never do again?

Years ago I bungee jumped, an absolutely amazing experience but I will never do that again, too old and too scared now!

Are there any things you're glad you tried but will never do again?

OP posts:

Went underground caving/rafting in New Zealand. It was amazing and I was on such a high afterwards. Until I realised the water we'd been swimming in was full of huge, thick black eels. I know they didn't do anything to me and I never noticed at the time but I couldn't go back in now knowing that 🙈

@caranations

Flown a glider. I got absolutely hooked in just two lessons, but that was pre-dc. I wouldn't do it now, no need to take unnecessary risks.
Higher risk of being involved in an RTC.

Making an effort with my SIL

(Glad I tried but she clearly hates me Confused )

Couldn't think of anything, other than get married again, until I read through.

Paintballing - definitely the worst day out I ever had. Absolutely hated it.

And I wouldn't rush to go to the Notting Hill Carnival again - most disappointing and faintly threatening.

Oh, and didn't like Barcelona either- nothing like I expected - but I'd probably give it another chance.

Swimming with whale sharks off the coast of Mexico. Hate the sea, hate not knowing what beneath me, hate not being able to get out.

Dibbydoos · 21/02/2022 19:55

Great post, OP!

I'm petrified of heights, so the Big one Blackpool was horrendous, going up an incinerator as part of my job. Climbing to the top of a cement manufacturing tower as part of my job.

After each one I never repeated them.

I cannot even think about doing a bungee jump, sky diving or anything remotely like that.

But I did learn to swim to learn how to windsurf in the sea. The instructor said I had guts because the sea was very deep in the bay Shock, but I did it got my certificate and went back multiple times, so I'm not a complete snowflake,

Skiing. Once was enough!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/02/2022 19:56

I have to agree with those who have mentioned the Notting Hill carnival. I'm glad I went because otherwise I would feel I was missing something amazing. In reality it was really unpleasant and I would give it a wide berth in future.

Marriage!

LostLlamaSociety · 21/02/2022 19:57

Centre Parcs - It felt like a cross between a 1970's holiday camp and a prison.

Rainartist · 21/02/2022 19:57

Las Vegas for me too!

Riding pillion on a motorbike.

OrchidFlakes · 21/02/2022 20:01

Skiing - never again, I’ll stick to hot chocolate and snow shoeing!
Snails…
White water rafting, loved it at the time but too dangerous for me now.
Horse riding.. after being bucked off it’s definitely not for me!

AngelinaFibres · 21/02/2022 20:07

@SpuriouserAndSpuriouser

Anal.
Absolutely. Strictly one way traffic there.
mathanxiety · 21/02/2022 20:11

Camping. Never again.

frostedfruit · 21/02/2022 20:13

A full body massage. Way too ticklish, it was excruciating. In the end the only bit she could massage without me shrieking with laughter was my fingertips

SquirrelFan · 21/02/2022 20:13

The ArcelorMittal Orbit. First of all I can never remember what it's called. Secondly, I don't want to repeat any experience where I repeated, "I probably won't die. I probably won't die" to myself over and over for the eternity it took to slide all the way down. Third, I went first (because I knew I'd run back down the stairs if I let the rest of the family go before me) so I had the anguish of repeating," He probably won't die. He probably won't die" for three more rounds.

@TheYearOfSmallThings I quite liked Go Ape.

lejourseleve · 21/02/2022 20:15

Hitchhiked from southern France to Budapest as a teenager - so glad I did it and had 0 issues as a 17 year old. Now seems crazy, never ever again !

eunace · 21/02/2022 20:15

Camping in the UK. Anything in Florida. I don't like being wet.

KellyanneConway · 21/02/2022 20:17

That massive roller coaster on Blackpool pleasure beach. Horrendous.

weegiemum · 21/02/2022 20:18

Pregnancy. I didn't mind birth very much but my body seriously doesn't like being pregnant.

Visiting a shanty town for a week in Caracas. It was awesome but the pitched gunfight in the street on our last night really put me off.

But like others, this thread has shown me what I'm pretty glad never to be trying. Except scuba diving! I'd go back and do that in a heartbeat.

MrsRobinson669 · 21/02/2022 20:27

Driving lessons. Tedious, annoying and soooo boring

Frankola · 21/02/2022 20:29

Laser Quest for anyone who remembers it. Time and money I'll never get back. The most anticlimactic activity EVER

Buttercup01 · 21/02/2022 20:47

The chair lift at the Needles in the Isle of Wight, beautiful views but genuinely terrifying....never again

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 21/02/2022 20:52

Solstice at Stonehenge. Went on a last minute invite (back when I was spontaneously child free).

Fun to start turned cold cold cold cold. Tried to curl up and doze on the ground at one point, and groggily raised my head to watch what I assumed was the sun but hard to tell because of all the fucking clouds. Everyone trying to spot it and then we all went into a half arsed "yaaaay" and applause probably started when someone else had had enough and started it off.

I can say I've done it, but never again.

NeverChange · 21/02/2022 20:53

Skydiving - I was 17, loved it but am no longer convinced of my own invincibility and would consider it risky now

Camping - I like privacy, hot water and comfortable far to much to ever repeat it

Oysters - they are disgusting

Working in retail - too many customers are insane
