Claudia or Louisa

Where do I start… so I’ve had quite a hard birth and baby girl will be our last (which is probably why I’m feeling like I have to get her name right). We have spent a couple of weeks trying different names and none have felt quite right. I’ve changed my mind a couple of times and so has my husband. We’ve gone back and forth and the two that have felt the most natural are Claudia and Louisa (which would both be honouring family members). We like them both equally and will be sticking with them. I have even deleted the extensive list of baby names off my phone… I would be so grateful if I could get some feedback of which one do you all prefer the sound of please? We are looking for a name that is quite classic and won’t necessarily date. I think both fit that as neither has ever shot up to the top of the name charts.. all feedback very welcome ☺️

I like both of those - I would go towards Claudia - only because I know a Louisa I'm not keen on 😂

Beatrice
Cecilia
Eloise
Alice
Francesca

I like Louisa. Claudia lovely as well, though have known one pronounced as Clawd-ia and another as Cloud-ia.

Hehe! That’s always the way! When you know someone by that name you associate it with them 😂

How about Claudia Louise so you can ( kind of) honour both.
Of the two I prefer Claudia.

MimiSunshine · 21/02/2022 09:13

Toss a coin, heads Louisa, tails Claudia. If you’re a little bit disappointed in the outcome you have your answer. If not then go with the outcome and put the other as the middle name.

If using both then I prefer Louisa Claudia last name.

Ginandplatonic · 21/02/2022 09:14

Oh I love them both equally and both have exactly the feel you’re going for. Cannot choose between them. I’m no help at all!

DarkCorner · 21/02/2022 09:14

I love both but Louisa has the edge for me.

TheUsualShitshow · 21/02/2022 09:15

I would go for Eloise actually, but Claudia is the nicer of your final two.

ThatsNotMyGolem · 21/02/2022 09:16

Louisa.

Claudia sounds like "clawed your..."

Very ugly name.

Luckyelephant1 · 21/02/2022 09:17

Depends how you will pronounce Claudia- is it Cloud-ia or Claw-dia. I prefer the latter by far, it's a lovely name but I think I very slightly prefer Louisa anyway.

narcdad · 21/02/2022 09:18

Louisa

TeaAndStrumpets · 21/02/2022 09:20

To narrow it down, if she were a boy would you prefer Claude or Louis? Both great but Louis seems more classic?

Btw I know an Italian Claudia and she is called Cloud-ia.

GorgonzolaSouffle · 21/02/2022 09:20

I think you should use both actually as she’s your last baby.

Claudia May Louisa

Claudia Eve Louisa

Claudia Bea Louisa

CandleRose · 21/02/2022 09:21

Wow that's such an evenly matched name choice! Both equally beautiful, classic, won't date, elegant, slightly unusual for today but still known.

What is your surname like? Perhaps that would make a difference, in terms of initials, or "flow".

If I had to choose then much as I really love Claudia, I'd probably choose Louisa, because Claudia may be frequently be shortened to Claudie which I know is cute enough but it's not nearly as nice as Claudia. Also there may be the "Clawdia/Cloudia" pronunciation difference with some people. I know that Louisa may be shortened to Lou but I think there's more chance of remaining a Louisa in full than a Claudia. But it's difficult as both are really lovely. I don't envy your choice! Also I do know of quite a few young Claudia's whereas I don't think I've ever heard of a Louisa even though it's so pretty.

BarbaraLoganPrice · 21/02/2022 09:22

Louisa

cptartapp · 21/02/2022 09:26

Louisa. More feminine.

FleeceNavidadFromTheSheep · 21/02/2022 09:30

Louisa, I think.

Because although I love Claudia/ Clow-dia, I'm not so keen on Claw-dia. And it would be setting them up for a lifetime of correcting people.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/02/2022 09:30

I have a Louisa. Never had a negative comment on the name... its usually how lovely it is. It travels well (we lived in South East Europe and North East Europe as well as UK and the name qas instantly recognisable unlike her sisters). She does sometimes get the Luisa spelling though.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/02/2022 09:32

If it effects your thinking... Luisa is apparently a popular character in the recent Disney film Encanto but not the main character.

BasiliskFace · 21/02/2022 09:32

I like Louisa best, definitely.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 21/02/2022 09:34

Toddler Niece is Claudia- my sister frequently gets comments about how lovely her name is.

It suits her with her dark hair and eyes- I think Louisa is more of a fair haired name if that helps at all

abigailsnan · 21/02/2022 09:35

I am in favour of Louisa but they are both lovely classic names,my eldest grand-daughter is Abigail Louiza by the way.

Lockdownbear · 21/02/2022 09:36

Louisa is my preference. Claudia sounds clumpy. However I'd take into account your surname and other family names / initials.

As two L Smiths in the house could be a pain.

Cheekypeach · 21/02/2022 09:37

I like them both!

AnaMRT · 21/02/2022 09:47

Wow thank you so much for all your feedback!! I really appreciate it! I think if it was Claudia it would be pronounced Claw-dia. However I don’t mind the other way of saying it as have family abroad that would probably pronounce it Cloud-dia.

Our surnames rhymes with Sailor and the middle name was going to be Marie as that’s both our mum’s names but like the idea of using both names as it’s our last baby.
